imageFrom New York Times bestselling author Jacquelyn Frank comes the final chapter in the Nightwalkers saga! As the momentous showdown with a powerful demon unfolds, a passionate encounter breaks the ultimate taboo.

Kamen is a Bodywalker, an ancient soul reborn in one human host after another. He’s also a prisoner of his own kind: for it was Kamen who released Apep, the deadly god who threatens the existence of their world. To atone for this grievous error, Kamen accepts an urgent mission: to convince the other nations of the Nightwalkers to set aside their centuries-old conflicts and band together. If he fails, all will be lost. And no tribe presents a greater challenge than the Wraiths, the spectral beings who are feared and despised for their lethal deathtouch.

Kamen makes first contact with a stunning, ghostly pale beauty named Geneviève. Part Wraith and part human, scorned as a half-breed, Viève shares the hunger for redemption—and for connection. Her scintillating touch holds the kiss of death, and yet it makes Kamen feel more alive than ever. Soon his lips are pressed against hers, sending Viève into fits of desire and forging a bond that breaches the divide between them. Now they must unite all the Nightwalkers, from Vampire and Shadowdweller to Djynns, and fast—for Apep is ready for war.

Kamen walked to the bathroom and splashed some cold water on his face. Then he turned on the lights and picked up one of the ancient tomes he had been studying in hopes of finding a solution to any of his many daunting problems. And, failing that, he was searching for spells, both offensive and defensive—anything that would help protect the Nightwalkers when Apep’s next attack took place.
He had been reading for several hours when, suddenly, something on a papyrus scroll jumped out at him—hieroglyphs of the figure of a god using some kind of power to divide a group of twelve beings into two halves.
Kamen knew instantly that the god was Apep and that he had used his power to sunder the Nightwalker nation into two. Then it showed that the god had died as a result of the curse. This was new information. He felt an emotion akin to excitement—if a man as jaded as he was could even feel excitement and hope any longer. If the god could die from the curse, then that meant he could die, period. That his mortal body was fragile enough to be destroyed. The question was, how did they go about destroying that mortal body when they hadn’t even gotten close to doing so in spite of using strength and manmade weapons against him? He’d been shot directly in the heart and it hadn’t even made him blink. If that couldn’t kill him, then what could?
But the next hieroglyphs were even more important. They showed the god resurrecting, enslaving people, using his power to kill . . . and then they showed the twelve beings coming together to fight the god. Eventually destroying him.
Did that mean what he thought it meant? That if all twelve nations of Nightwalkers got together they could fight this god? If that were the case then it would be an impossible task. Not only because they couldn’t see one another, but because the twelfth nation, the Wraiths, were enemies to all the other Nightwalkers. True, there had been an unspoken truce of sorts these past decades, more a case of neither making any moves against the other. But every Nightwalker on this side of the faction, known now as the Second Faction, knew the Wraiths were cold-blooded and would just as soon touch you with their instantly fatal deathtouch as not. The First Faction was lucky they knew nothing of the Wraiths. They made Nightwalker blood run cold.
But what if the Wraiths could be made to come to the table? Could be made to understand that it was best for all of them if they worked cooperatively against the god Apep? Surely they had just as much to lose.
But the glyphs showed no explanation as to how the twelve were able to coordinate an attack against the god. Hieroglyphs were notoriously open to interpretation and could only get across the most rudimentary of ideas. It wasn’t as though you could glean great philosophical discussions from them.
He gingerly touched the aged papyrus. Simple they may be, those few succinct images were the closest they had gotten to some kind of history or explanation or suggestion as to how to end all of this. He put a marker in the page and continued on in search of more, but he went through all the other scrolls and found no hint of further explanation.
Twelve nations, working together.
It was worth considering at least. And it wasn’t his place to agree or disagree with the concept. His only role was to report what he learned.
And so when dusk fell, that was what he would do.

The World of Nightwalkers Series comes to an exciting end in Jacquelyn Frank ‘s series finale, Nightwalker. An epic battle arises and all the previous characters in the series make an appearance. It was great to get updates on all the couples. Nightwalker was full of action, danger, excitement and hot romance. I loved the character growth Kamen experienced throughout the series and Geneviève brought out the best in him. If you haven’t read this series I recommend The World of Nightwalkers Series for paranormal romance lovers looking for a unique and well written series. Each book can be read as a standalone, but I’d suggest reading the books in order. If you’re a fan you’ll enjoy the series conclusion in Nightwalker.

RAGE

Rage might be an aggressive Hunter by nature, but the gorgeous male has never had a problem charming the females. All except Lucie Gaudet. Of course, the lovely Geek is a born troublemaker, and it was no surprise to Rage when she was kicked out of the Wildlands.

But now the Pantera need a first-class hacker to stop the potential destruction of their people. And it’s up to Rage to convince Lucie to help. Can the two forget the past—and their sizzling attraction—to save the Pantera?

KILLIAN

Gorgeous, brutal, aggressive, and human, Killian O’Roarke wants only two things: to get rid of the Pantera DNA he’s been infected with, and get back to the field. But the decorated Army Ranger never bargained on meeting the woman—the female—of his dreams on his mission to the Wildlands.

Rosalie lost her mate to a human, and now the Hunter despises them all. In fact, she thinks they’re good for only one thing: barbeque. But this one she’s guarding is testing her beliefs. He is proud and kind, and also knows the pain of loss. But in a time of war between their species, isn’t any chance of love destined for destruction?

“No,” he growled. “No, no, no.”
“I’m sorry.” Parish folded his arms over his chest, the air prickling with the force of his authority. The older male wasn’t the leader of the Hunters because of his sparkling personality. “Did you think that was a request? Because it wasn’t.”
Rage grimaced, deliberately leashing his instinctive aggression. He’d discovered at an early age he could use his natural charm to…encourage people to see things his way. It was only when his cat was provoked to violence that it was obvious why his faction was Hunter instead of Diplomat.
“Please, Parish,” he soothed. “Send someone else.”
“There is no one else.” Parish narrowed his golden eyes. “In case you missed the memo we’ve been having a few disasters lately.”
“Exactly. I should be out searching for the mysterious Christopher,” Rage said, referring to the head of Benson Enterprises, the shadowy corporation that was responsible for stealing Pantera, as well as vulnerable humans. “Or at least hunting down the Frankenstein labs. We still can’t be sure we’ve burned them all.” He pointed toward the window that overlooked the manicured grass of the communal area. Below them a few Pantera mothers were sharing a late lunch while their cubs tumbled across the spongy ground. It was winter in the Wildlands, but the Pantera embraced the brisk air. “Hell, I’ll even spy on the military. Someone needs to discover who can and can’t be trusted in the human government.”
Parish looked far from impressed by his logic. “Are you trying to tell me how to do my job?”
“Christ, no. It’s just…”
Parish frowned. “What?”
Rage hesitated. This was the first time he’d ever questioned a direct order, but there was no way in hell he wanted to deal with Lucie Gaudet.
The female Geek had been a few years younger than Rage, and growing up he’d initially felt sorry for the half-feral creature who’d lived in the outer parts of the swamp. She’d slunk around the edges of town with her hair matted and tangled, and her face covered in dirt. Almost like a fabled wood sprite who flitted among the trees, spreading mist and magic
But as they’d matured, his pity had changed to annoyance.
Instead of growing out of her odd preference for the shadows, she’d continued to lurk at a distance, and worse, she’d used her cunning intelligence to torment others. Including himself.
A born troublemaker.

Alexandra IvyABOUT ALEXANDRA IVY:

Alexandra Ivy is a New York Times and USA Todaybestselling author. From Alexandra: “I’m not exactly sure when I fell in love with books. Probably on my mother’s knee listening to her read Dr. Seuss to me. I do remember that I was barely old enough to cross the street by myself when I discovered the delights of the local library.

Could anything be more wonderful than spending summer days surrounded by stacks of Nancy Drew mysteries? Over the years I fell in love with Victoria Holt, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, and J.R.R. Tolkien just to name a few. I read poetry, essays, biographies, and plays. In fact, I read anything I could get my hands on.

Years later (no, I’m not admitting how many) I’m still an avid reader, and my tastes are still as varied as they were in my youth, which I suppose helps to explain why I enjoy writing regency historicals under the name of Deborah Raleigh, as well as my contemporary paranormals as Alexandra Ivy. For now that is enough to keep me busy, but who knows what the future might hold!

I do have a few other loves in my life besides reading and writing, the most important being my unbelievably patient husband, David, and my two sons, Chance and Alexander. Without their constant support and belief in me, I never could have been able to follow my dreams. They are truly my heroes.

Laura WrightABOUT LAURA WRIGHT:

Laura Wright is a New York Times and USA Todaybestselling author. From Laura: “Unlike many of my peers in the writing world, I wasn’t a writer or a reader until I left high school. During my youth I was into theater, song and dance, commercials and boys. I loved romance surely, but I had never read a romance novel until my late teens. With that said, I remember the day I did like it was a moment ago – my aunt gave me the Jude Deveraux novel, Knight in Shining Armor and I couldn’t put it down until the very last word. Then I went straight to the library and got another – then another until I’d read everything she’d ever written. After that, it was McNaught, Howard, Schone, Kleypas, and the Silhouette line, Desire. I instantly loved those emotional, sexy reads, so much so that I began to carve out ideas for my own stories, themes that were unique to me and moved me. In 1997 I enrolled in UCLA extension writing classes, met my mentor and critique partners and since have never stopped writing. I was committed then and I still am now; the need to tell my own romantic stories a full on obsession. My first manuscript was rejected, and though the second one was as well the editor who’d rejected it wanted to see something else from me. I had something (note to authors; always keep working, even after you’ve sent in a proposal) and sent it right away. The day I got the call telling me Desire wanted to buy Cinderella and the Playboy was the best day of my life. That is until I married my husband, and had my two beautiful children. But I must say, writing is much like motherhood – tough, grueling, surprising, delicious and for me, a dream come true.”

imageOut of all the mysterious boarders who call Sanctuary home, no one is more antisocial or withdrawn than Maxis Drago. But then, it’s hard to blend in with the modern world when you have a fifty foot wingspan.

Centuries ago, he was cursed by an enemy who swore to see him fall. An enemy who took everything from him and left him forever secluded.

But Fate is a bitch, with a wicked sense of humor. And when she throws old enemies together and threatens the wife he thought had died centuries ago, he comes back with a vengeance. Modern day New Orleans has become a battleground for the oldest of evils. And two dragons will hold the line, or go down in flames.

image

The Dragons have arrived! I’m a huge Dark-Hunter fan and I’m so excited about the new twists in the series storyline. Dragonbane is Max’s story and if you’re a fan of the series you know he’s remained a bit of mystery. We get all the details in his book and we get more dragons! Max and Seraphina’s story is full of heartbreak, danger, mystery and hot romance. I didn’t care for Seraphina when she was introduced but she grew on me and became a worthy mate for Max. Their chemistry was off the charts. If you’re a fan of the series you will love Dragonbane and if you’re new to the series I would recommend you start at the beginning to fully enjoy it. Each book has a HEA ending for different couples but the series needs to be read in order to fully appreciate the characters and series plot. I can’t wait for the next book to see what Sherrilyn Kenyon has in store for us next. The Dark-Hunter series keeps getting better and no one weaves a story like Sherrilyn Kenyon.

REVIEW: Chase the Darkness: An Alpha Pack Novel by J. D. Tyler

image

Chase the Darkness: An Alpha Pack Novel by J. D. Tyler

Publication Date: August 4, 2015

Genre: Paranormal Romance

image

imageThe author of Wolf’s Fall returns with her “hot and to die for”* Alpha Pack—a top-secret band of Navy SEALs with Psy powers and shifter prowess whose dangerous missions sometimes require a more intimate call to duty…

Believed dead by his Pack mates, Micah Chase, a wolf shifter and Dreamwalker, was held captive for months, subject to tortures that left him physically scarred and emotionally unsettled.

Now under the care of the Alpha Pack’s doctors, he’s been prescribed an experimental healing drug, but he still can’t shake the nightmares. Even more damning is that Micah’s problems pose a danger to his team, and if he doesn’t get himself under control, they’ll all suffer a terrible fate.

There is a key to his salvation. Jacee is a beautiful coyote shifter, and though her kind is hated, she’s falling in love with a man whose very future is in her hands. Together they’ll face his personal demons as well as a deadly enemy—and for both of them desire has never come with such risk.

*Dark Faerie Tales

imageAnother great Alpha Pack novel! Micah is one of those wounded warriors battling the scars both within and without. I like that he was a little different and because of the past torture, he was a little humanized while still being strong. I think Jacee was the perfect choice for him since she’s strong yet passionate and determined. He needed that. Ms. Tyler always manages to give a different spin to each story and this was no exception. I enjoyed the danger brought by their evil villain and even though other things were going on, it didn’t overshadow the hot romance nor the camaraderie of the Alpha Pack. They’re just one of those groups that makes you feel you’re there with them. (If only that were true).  There’s a little teaser for the next book and I’m already chomping at the bit to read it. It promises to be another good one.

Dragon Fall by Katie MacAlister

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Publication Date: July 28, 2015

image For Aoife Dakar, seeing is believing-and she’s seen some extraordinary things. It’s too bad no one else believes that she witnessed a supernatural murder at an outdoor fair. Returning to the scene for proof, Aoife encounters a wise-cracking demon dog-and a gloriously naked man who can shift into a dragon and kiss like a god. Now thrust into a fantastical world that’s both exhilarating and terrifying, Aoife is about to learn just how hot a dragon’s fire burns.

Kostya has no time for a human woman with endless questions, no matter how gorgeous or tempting she is. He must break the curse that has splintered the dragon clans before more of his kind die. But his powerful attraction to Aoife runs much deeper than the physical-and there may be more to her than even his sharp dragon eyes can see. To survive the coming battle for the fate of his race, he needs a mate of true heart and soul.

image This is a fun paranormal romance full of odd characters and crazy situations all thrown together to lay the foundation for this new dragon series. It’s rather light on character development which sadly kept me from becoming invested in Kostya or Aoife. Also, the romance part of the story was a bit lacking so the sudden depth of their feelings seemed a bit odd. Luckily the witty rapid-fire dialogue kept me entertained and wondering what would come out of Aoife’s mouth next. All in all it is a witty light story perfect for a summertime read.

Kostya took my arms in his hands, giving me a little shake. “You appear to be denying the existence of Jim, amongst other things. Is that it? You do not wish to admit that I am a dragon, and Jim is a demon?”

“Oh, now you’re a dragon, are you?” I asked, stifling the urge to laugh hysterically.

“I have always been a dragon.” His tone implied that he was vaguely insulted, but before I could make a comment about his sanity—let alone mine for even having that conversation—the world as I knew it came to an end.

Or rather, the world that I had lived in for the last two years ended. Before my unbelieving eyes, Kostya’s form seemed to shimmer for a moment before morphing into that of a black dragon, complete with glossy black scales, ivory claws, and trickle of smoke coming out of one nostril. I froze, staring, my brain trying to come to terms with the impossible being in front of me, but before I could do more than squawk, the dragon shimmered again and Kostya stood in its place.

That was the moment that my sad little inner voice stood up and shouted with joy, filled with vindication after two years of denial.

“Holy sex me now!” I said, the rest of my brain still having problems coping with the fact that a dragon—a dragon!—had stood before me, his claws on my arms.

Told you so, said the formerly sad inner voice. Guess Terrin was right all along, huh? Now we can get on with life. I wonder what a demon lord does?

And that’s when the penny dropped. “You’re the black dragon I saw at GothFaire that night the world went insane. You’re the guy Terrin pointed out to me.”

“I do not know anyone named Terrin. As for your request—”

“What request?” I asked, confused while my mind was busy pushing bits of puzzle pieces into place. No wonder Kostya looked familiar to me. But that meant that everything Terrin told me was true. Which in turn meant I wasn’t the least bit ga-ga. Relief swamped me when I added, “I didn’t ask you for anything.”

“You did. You asked me to sex you now. I realize that you desire my body,” Kostya said to me in the same stern tone of voice that my father had used whenever I was caught doing something I oughtn’t, “but now is hardly the time or place for such actions. I will admit, however, that the thought is not displeasing to me. You are quite comely. Later, we will have the sexing. But for now, we must remain focused.”

I giggled. I couldn’t help it, the giggle just slipped out.

His frown returned. “You find me amusing?”

“I find your phrasing amusing. Comely, to be exact. I don’t think I’ve ever heard it used outside of a Georgette Heyer novel. And for the record—” I had to stop for a moment to get a grip on myself. Apparently, my brain decided that giggling was good, and there was no reason to cease that action. “For the record, I do not desire your body. Not that you’re hideous or anything, far from it. Even with those scars, your chest is really nice, and I like your legs because they aren’t scrawny, and you have nice shoulders and naughty bits, but I’ve never been one to put physical attributes ahead of more important things.”

“Such as?” He had his hands on his hips when he asked the question, which just made me want to giggle again.A

“Intelligence, a sense of humor, and oh yes, not being a mythical creature.” I swallowed another giggle. “Not that it wasn’t a cool form, but still. I like my men without the sort of baggage that must go with being a shapeshifter.”

“Is that so?” One eyebrow lifted.

“Yes.”

“Then you will not like this.” He pulled me against him, his mouth moving into place on mine, his breath hotter than I could have imagined. And then he kissed the very wits right out of my brain.

CAGED MAGIC: A Wing Slayer Novel by Jennifer Lyon ~ Blog Tour, Review, Guest Post & Giveaway

image

Breaking Up Is Hard To Do
Or Why I Continued the Wing Slayer Hunter Series
Jennifer Lyon

I’m thrilled to be here today! Thanks so much to Cori and Reading in Pajamas for having me on the blog! Okay let’s talk about breaking up. You know that boyfriend that causes you so much pain you decide to break up, but then can’t do it? Or maybe you leave a few times but keep coming back?

That’s me and Linc Dillinger, the hero of Caged Magic, book 5 in the Wing Slayer Hunter Series. This guy was breaking my heart, ripping it up in shreds and I had to end things to save myself. First the publisher dropped the series, then another publisher contacted me with interest but after waiting for-freaking-ever the offer wasn’t one I could accept. At that point, I was done.

I explained it the best I could, “Linc, I can’t write your story.”

Linc stared me down with his light brown eyes in that too handsome face. “Too late, you started the story, in fact you wrote almost half of it then you bailed. Unacceptable Lyon. And worse, you left my heroine, Risa, in serious trouble and her baby girl is missing. Get your butt in the chair and finish the story. We’re going to find that baby and I will save Risa. Make. It. Happen.”

Dang he’s stubborn and like a fool, I kept explaining, “I can’t. I have deadlines on contracts and other books to write to pay the bills.” I mean that’s reality, right? It didn’t matter how much I love this series about witches and hunters fighting a pervasive evil, or that they love one another with a fierce passion. I had to face the facts and let the series go.

And yet the second I fulfilled my contractual obligations, I pulled up Linc’s book, started reading…and didn’t stop until I finished writing the book.

In the beginning of the story, Linc and Risa need each other – he needs her to break his curse, and she needs him to find her missing baby. But together, they discover a love so powerful, Linc wouldn’t rest until the story was told and he won Risa’s heart. He not only fought the bad guys in the book, he fought me tooth and nail, refusing to let me give up. That kind of love should be rewarded with a happy ending and I hope I gave Linc and Risa the story they deserved.

So now you know why I couldn’t break up with Linc and Risa in Caged Magic. But how about you as a reader? Have you ever tried to break up with a series you’re reading, but just couldn’t do it?

imageRisa Faden is a witch whose ultra-powerful shield magic is slowly breaking her mind. But when her beloved goddaughter is snatched by a demon, she’ll risk anything to rescue the baby—including lying to the handsome, intriguing stranger who has the power to help her keep her sanity, save the child…and steal her heart.

Linc Dillinger is a Wing Slayer Hunter whose sexy, rich, bad-boy charm hides a treacherous betrayal that left him emotionally scarred. As a result he risks his life to protect innocents, but is incapable of love—until he meets a beautiful witch who can save his cursed soul. Risa’s fierce courage and loyalty reaches past his barriers and he begins to believe she has the magic to free his caged heart.

But Risa’s lie explodes into dark danger that forces Linc into a hellish high-stakes gamble: He must either win the witch he loves and her godchild…or endure a loss that will destroy them all.

The Wing Slayer Series is back! When Jennifer Lyon announced that she was going to write Linc’s book to say I was excited would be an understatement. I ‘girly squeeled’ and then went to Facebook and Twitter and told everyone they needed to read this series if they hadn’t read it. It’s one of those series I tell everyone they should read because I just love it so much and I obsessed with characters. The Wing Slayer series is a hot paranormal romance series with swoon-worthy protective alpha males and their witches. I’m so happy Jennifer Lyon has picked up the series again and decided to self publish it. I have loved Linc since she introduced him in the series and he blew me away in Caged Magic! Caged Magic is a heart-wrenching, action packed, scorching hot and just incredible love story! It’s also my new favorite in the series! Linc and Rissa were made for each other and the definition of soul mates. If you’re a fan of the series you’ll love the new book and if you’re new you should start with book one, Blood Magic, and see why I’m so obsessed with the Wing Slayers. I can’t wait for the next book!

Linc reached across the bathroom, catching her hand. His warm, firm fingers anchored her. Startled, she lifted her gaze to him.

“Come here, Risa.”

She started to shake her head, but pain pierced her skull. She hadn’t recovered yet. It would take hours of sleep to regain some strength.

“Here’s the thing. If you want your high magic, you’re going to have to learn my touch is not like the others. I am not just making use of your body.” He squeezed her hand reassuringly. “Not while I still have a soul. We clear?”

She resisted for a second longer, searching over him with her gaze. When he showed her this kindness, acting as if he cared enough to get to know and understand her, it opened her up, left her too vulnerable.

“Take the first step. That’s all you have to do.” His voice flowed smoothly to wrap around her like a silky ribbon. Her chakras relaxed, and her muscles unlocked.
She took the step.

And won a smile from him. His face softened, a dent forming in his chin while his eyes crinkled. This wasn’t Linc’s charming smile, the one he tossed off with his fast and glib comebacks. That smile had polish.

This one was real, sexy, and made her feel like smiling back. Unsure what to do, she just stood there, staring at the amazing grin on his face.

He reached out, caught her waist and tugged her between his thighs. He tucked her beneath one arm, surrounding her with his body heat.

Edge of Darkness by Christine Feehan, Maggie Shayne and Lori Herter

Publication Date: August 4, 2015

Genre: Paranormal Romance

IMG_0029

Take an all-new excursion in the world of the Carpathians from #1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan–joined here by Maggie Shayne and Lori Herter, two other masters of vampire romance in an original anthology that takes dark fantasy to rapturous new heights.

Dark Crime by Christine Feehan
Blaze knows who killed her father and she has merciless plans for payback. Until a phone call from a seductive stranger pleads with her to wait. Retribution is in his blood, too. Now, he and Blaze will be united in the blood of the guilty. Tonight, vengeance is theirs.

Dead by Twilight by Maggie Shayne
Bloodsuckers may be an accepted minority but one of them is getting away with murder. Until a female vamp teams with a mortal detective to end the killing spree. Now the night belongs to them–and so does every pleasure and danger lurking in the shadows.

Cimarron Spirit by Lori Herter
While excavating an Anasazi ruin, archeologist Annie Carmichael uncovers the resting place of a centuries-old vampire who finds in Annie the liberating mate he has longed for. But how much is Annie expected–or willing–to surrender for the man she now desires?

IMG_1161 Dark Crime by Christine Feehan is longer than a standard novella so the characters were fleshed out quite nicely. It was a hot and sensual Carpathian story that revolved around an alpha male meeting his alpha female. I loved how they came together and that he not only appreciated her strengths but encouraged her. It did have a definite ending but it also leads into a new story which I have to read hopefully soon.

Dead by Twilight by Maggie Shayne is a fun murder mystery full of soft humor. Chloe is a reluctant vampire who manages to hide what she is while hunting rogue vampires as a cop. I enjoyed the little twists and turns the story takes along with the interesting characters. It’s a nice light romance that made me want to read more.

Cimarron Spirit by Lori Herter is a romantic story of forbidden love. I wish it was a longer novel so it could be fleshed out more as I liked the archeology angle and the emotional struggle. I could relate to her trying to decide between what is safe and known versus the wild romantic unknown.

Earth Bound (A Sea Haven Novel)

by Christine Feehan

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Publication Date: July 7, 2015

The #1 New York Times bestselling author of Air Bound returns to the mysterious coastal town of Sea Haven where six sisters of the heart are bound by the elements, and one is stalked by an inescapable past…

After escaping from a cult, Lexi found refuge with her sisters on the farm that more than sustained her body—it nurtured her soul as well. But she never forgot the terror she left behind or the always present fear that the cult would find her again, and claim her. Then her nightmare came true.

Lexi was discovered and threatened—only to be suddenly saved by a stranger. He is Gavriil Prakenskii, and he’s awestruck by the woman he’s rescued. She is destined for him. He can feel it in his soul. But how can Lexi find happiness with a man steeped in secrets and shadows, one intimately acquainted with violence, and whose very love could be the death of them?

NEVER BEFORE PUBLISHED

This is a touching story of two tragic, lost souls learning to find trust and love in each other. It was more an emotional love story even though the physical part finally came and was worth the wait. Although I wish it had moved past the “I’m not good enough for you” stage faster, I did enjoy their journey. She helped him feel and he helped her find confidence to cope with her past intruding once more. I really liked Gavriil but then I am partial to the strong, deadly silent types and his hidden scars only added to the allure. His relationship with his brothers was interesting but I wish there was more immediate chemistry between them. I have not read this series and found that it was easy to pick up on the back stories. I now have them on my TBR list. I think I like Sea Haven.

His name is Rhage—the deadliest fighter and most voracious lover of all the Brotherhood, whose inner beast could never be tamed. But Rhage found his eternal love in Mary Luce, a woman who once bore a life-threatening curse, while dreaming of eternity with her vampire warrior and protector.

They’ve made it to hell and back. Now their story continues in a new novel sure to draw fans back into the “frighteningly addictive” (Publishers Weekly) world of the Black Dagger Brotherhood.

Here’s a copy of the transcript J.R. Ward posted on her FB page in case you missed it. There are SPOILERS! DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU’VE READ THE SHADOWS.

*****************

TRANSCRIPT FROM J.R. Ward’s Signing posted on her Facebook Page:

A huge THANK YOU!!!!! to everyone who came to the event in Cinci! As promised, we have the transcript from the Q&A. It is full of SPOILERS so if you don’t want to read SPOILERS, don’t read on.
Because there are SPOILERS!!!!!!!! Lots and lots of SPOILERS!!!!
If you are still reading, you must not mind the SPOILERS.

Also, a note from the transcriber: There is a lot going on during the Q&A session and several people are trying to help keep track of the questions, but it’s not always possible. So, if something go missed, it wasn’t intentional and it isn’t meant personally to the person who asked the question. It was just not possible to hear every single thing said. With that note, here is the transcript….

SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS!

Q: Who is the next book???
A: The title is “The Beast” ….I bet you know who that is about. We were going to do a short story, but there was too much to fit…he was too big to fit in a small….story. (crowd shouts: That’s what she said!)

Q: Can you elaborate on anything that’s going on with Rhage?
A: Ummmmm. He has some survivor’s guilt going on there, and there are some issues that he and Mary have to work out. There’s also one aspect of their life that will come to fruition. (crowd yells: BABY!!!)

Q: It’s more of a comment than a question. There were a lot of haters for The Shadows. For the way it had to happen, you did it perfectly.
A: Well, thank you! I totally understand people’s reactions.

Q: Are we going to see a lot more of s’Ex, the executioner?
A: Oh, yeah, I’m totally in love with s’Ex, too. (Crowd laughs at double entendre.) I want him to have his own book, his own love. I think he’s going to be protective of Trez, and s’Ex probably won’t be going back to the Territories, but I think iAm will definitely be going back and forth.

Q: What’s going on with Rhage? Is he going to be pardoned by the Scribe Virgin and have his curse repealed?
A: B**ch can’t get out of her own head long enough to fix anything. You’re going to have to KR on that.

Q: Can you or will you elaborate on how Xhex became an assassin?
A: I’m not sure what there is to elaborate on. She just came out that way.

Q: How do the Brother’s get the golden retriever hair off them?
A: Can you imagine the doggen? Just wrap one of them in duct tape and rolllllllll.

Q: With the demise of Mr. C., will Lash be coming back?
A: Yes, but we have to get through the next book and we have to get to Xcor and Layla. So, it just means getting to the point where he returns.

Q: With women coming in to the training program, will find out that women were already included, back in the day?
A: There is no back in the day for women (being involved). This is something new.

Q: When are humans finding out that there are vampires?
A: It’s coming. Remember when the sh*t was hitting the fan (Crowd: Which time?) So it’s going to come out that people have been videotaping and posting on Youtube. There was a scene, way back in one of the books, where the kid was videotaping, and it happens this time. So, yeah, that sh*t’s going to get posted.

Q: Back in the day, before they lived in the sanctuary, there were Chosen breeding with the Brothers. Could we find out that the Chosen had offspring by different Brothers?
A: Originally they were only to breed with the Primale. Eventually, they were serving the Brothers with blood and sometimes, they would fall in love and have children. The breeding program is no longer in progress. It is possible that the Chosen had children by more than one Brother.

Q: Have we met Assail’s sibling?
A: That’s a Keep Reading.

Q: Will we find out Craeg’s parentage and is it significant?
A: That’s a Keep Reading, too.

Q: After the introduction of the training program, will there be shellans who want to enter?
A: Probably not, because those who can and want to, like Xhex and Payne, already are.

Q: Are we going to hear more about Payne’s ability to heal?
A: We’re going to learn that her ability to heal costs her more each time she uses it. And, I’m not sure what the answer is, whether she needs to refresh by going to the Sanctuary. Or there’s other consequences.

Q: Are Adrian and Eddie going to be Lassiter’s next assignment?
A: Yes, and Lassiter will get his own book.

Q: I get the drift that Bloodletter is his calling and his handle, but is that his name?
A: Bloodletter is his handle but not his real name. Can you imagine that on his birth certificate? His driver’s license. Why, sir, perhaps you shouldn’t drive….

Q: Was Bloodletter one of the Brothers guarding Wrath the Fair, in The King?
A: Maybe….

Q: Is he related to the Original Brother, who had two lines: Wrath, and perhaps an aristocrat of whom The Bloodletter is of the line?
A: Yes, he was.

Q: Selena said that she would be waiting for Trez and whomever he falls in love with.
A: I think some day that Trez will find someone to love, but it will be a long way off. You have to remember that vampires live five or six hundred years. And Serena gives him permission, says to him that if you find someone, to fall in love and live his life.

Q: Will Devina be in Lassiter’s book?
A: I think she will be in Lash’s book. Even assholes deserve love.

Q: Is Throe the new Havers (as the most hated character)?
A: Oh yeah he has bad juju. There are definitely some things to work out with Throe.

Q: What happens when Throe runs into Xcor?
A: That’s a Keep Reading.

Q: Is Layla going to have both twins?
A: She needs to have those babies. We need to move along because there’s so much more to come after that.

Q: Will De La Cruz be part of the “humans finding out”?
A: Hmm, I think he needs to see Butch again.

Q: You always write about how the males bond and give out their scent, but can it be unrequited?
A: I’m sure that happens.

Q: Now that Selena talked with Luchas about being lucky to alive, does he have a better will to live?
A: I think he does. And I’m sure we’re going to be seeing more of him, I’m just not sure right now which series he’s going to track in, whether it will be the BDB or the Legacy Series.

Q: Since Rhage is all up in his estrogen-fueled feelings, why is not the Beast all, dude, there’s nothing wrong with us, calm the eff down…
A: The Beast is non-verbal. So, not like he can just say that. (crowd laughs at image)

Q: Why is it that the Brothers can’t scent Xcor on Layla and know she’s lying.
A: It’s because she’s pregnant, and it would be disrespectful of them to get close enough to scent her.

Q: About Saxton’s HEA (Happily Ever After), can you tell us the when and who and what book?
A: Cannot answer that. Keep Reading.

Q: If feeding from humans doesn’t give vamps enough strength, like when Z was trying to survive on just human blood, how does Payne keep going feeding from Manny?
A: Payne goes to the other side and that rejuvenates her.

Q: Do we know for sure that Butch and Manny are connected?
A: Yes, they have the same father, and that guy didn’t keep it in his pants, so there may be more of them out there.

Q: Will Murhder be coming back?
A: Yes. I thought he was showing up in this book, but then, he didn’t but I know he comes back. He has to come back. But when he does, the stuff about him and Xhex is going to come up and out, and that’s going to mess with John Matthew’s head. That’s going to be a lot for JM to take.

Q: I’m curious about the sympaths and if we will learn more about them?
A: Weird six finger things. If humans become aggressive toward the Shadows and sympaths, it may become a case of “The enemy of my enemy is my friend.” Because there is some serious sh*t coming. There is also a penal colony out west that may come into play. To keep the action going, more people have to come into the story. So, I think we’ll see all of those groups getting more involved.

Q: You had said that in honor of the tenth anniversary of Wrath’s release, there would be some sort of party or celebration?
A: With the release schedule for this year, we just couldn’t make it happen. But, maybe next March to celebrate Rhage and the Beast? We’re going to work on something.

Q: I love Godd*mn Cat. Will we find out more about Godd*mn Cat? (This is what iAm calls Boo.)
A: We will, yes.

Q: Will we see more of Fritz and his personal life?
A: He loves his job, but I can’t imagine writing his sex life. Nope….imagine a basset hound…nope…nope.

Q: Will there be a resolution to the death rate amongst females and births?
A: I don’t think so because it’s just part of nature.

Q: Throe went to Xcor to avenge his sister’s death, and the one who saved Tohr was shot in the head, so how can be Throe be Autumn’s brother? (This was a confusing question, and the transcriber may not have gotten the whole thing correct, but the answer is the same.)
A: Keep Reading.

Q: Will we see more of the next generation? (Little Wrath, Nalla, Aggie, etc.)
A: I would love to see what happens when Z finds out Nalla has a boyfriend. But I don’t know how that would work. Would they be set in the future? Not sure yet.

Q: Will there be weeding out of the Bastards?

A: Oh, yeah, there will be. Leaky, messy, with a weed eater weeding.

Q: What’s with all the twins?

A: There are a whole lot of twins. I’m interested in what’s going on. Just the other day, I was like, wow, there’s a whole lot of twins in here. I know, I know, I is slow.

Q: Can we get a pronunciation guide?

A: Maybe, we’ll have to think on that.

Q: I thought John Matthew knew about Butch and Xhex? (having slept together)

A: I think JM is going to have a hard time with it.

Q: Is JM a Brother?

A: Not yet but he will be; I just don’t know when.

Q: Is Wrath ever going to see his son?

A: No, he’s blind and there’s no fixing it.

Q: Layla is having twins. Will that be a problem with the birth and one won’t be ready?
A: Welll…(there was a lot of side chatter that ended with): But I promised I was finished killing people and that both would make it…

Q: Now that iAm and Boo are BFFs, now that iAm’s not at home as much, will Boo go Ninja cat?
A: Boo will have separation anxiety.

Q: Why did Qhuinn only see one twin? (In his vision)
A: I would answer that, but I can’t.

Q: The Scribe Virgin has been missing. Why did she decide to make herself known when she did? (In The Shadows)
A: I think because she knew the suffering Selena’s death was causing, and that she felt motivated which I find interesting. Someone said that if, as a deity, if no one is worshipping you, then you are as good as dead. So maybe she’s realizing that. And you know the most logical person for her to end up with?? (Crowd shouts: Lassiter) Right, so Vishous would be his stepson. That sh*t is hysterical. Call me Daddy! (crowd roars)

Q: Vampires usually have one mate, so when Tohr goes to the Fade is it going to be like Sister Wives?
A: Yep, just like Sister Wives. Tonight is your night, tomorrow’s yours. I’m gonna divorce you to give the fourth wife healthcare….(laughter)

Q: Saxton’s HEA, could it be one of the recruits?
A:You’re just trying to get me to say! I know who it is. Just not telling you.

Q: With Layla, Xcor, and the twins, will they break the kids up?
A: Hell no. The solution is there, it’s just going to take us a while to get there.

Q: Can you tell us if there is one boy one girl?
A: I’m not saying.

Q: What is going on with the Scribe Virgin? We saw her for a hot second but what’s going on with her?
A: She needs to get laid in the worst way. She needs to run off to the Bahamas with Lassiter and watch Beaches and Maury.

Q: About the Legacy series and opening with Blood Kiss. Will there be a signing event?
A: Yes.

Q: Did I hear that Phury and Cormia have a son?
A: Aggie is Phury and Cormia’s son, yes.

Q: Process question: Do you write scenes down as they come, if they’re for the future?
A: No, it stays in my head. I also have a research assistant who helps keep things straight. Occasionally, we make mistakes but I don’t write it down.

Q: We know Butch and Manny are brothers. Could they be related to Michael in the Story of Son?
A: It wouldn’t surprise me if Michael was related to Murhder, with the hair. And it wouldn’t surprise me if Clare and Michael’s kids come into the BDB stories sometime in the future.

Q: Does Layla make it through the pregnancy?
A: Yes, she does.

Q: Are Cormia and Phury ready to have a baby?
A: Yes, they are.

Q: Are we going to get more Brothers coming through the training program and how?
A: Chosen will fall in love and have more children.

Q: So about the V, Lassiter, Throe conflict?
A: I can’t say anything about that.

Q: Layla’s babies, could one be Xcor’s and one be Qhuinn’s?
A: No, that’s not possible.

Q: Does Butch get sick of V’s music?
A: You wouldn’t win an argument with V over the lint in your own bellybutton, so Butch has gotten over it. And is probably deaf now.

Q: Butch needs a vampire little sister.
A: He’s great with kids, but I don’t see a sister right now.

Q: So, in the Legacy Series, we’ll have basic training flashbacks?
A: Yep, basically.

Q: I was glad that Trez got closure (by getting to see Selena in the Fade).
A: I knew that Trez had to go through the Cleansing, but I didn’t realize the purpose when I saw the scene. I thought it was wonderful that Trez was talking to Selena, even after she was gone. And, Trez had to come back in order for iAm to have his moment with maichen.

Q: Will we see a cure for this genetic disease?
A: I don’t know but this is the problem with a breeding program that has a limited gene pool.

Q: Will we see Butch and Marissa in Blood Kiss?
A: Yes, but we won’t see them have kids yet.

Q: Will Paradise be the only female in the training program?
A: Nope.

Q: Will we ever get movies?
A: The rights have been purchased for The Bourbon Kings and the BDB is being looked at again.

Q: Will JM and Blay be inducted into the BDB?
A: Yes but I don’t know when.

Q: Would you build the mansion, based on the images in your head?
A: I would love to have a miniature model built someday.

Q: Could you do more Slices of Life?
A: I don’t know about that or another Insider’s Guide. There just isn’t time.

Q: There will be a signing for the Bourbon Kings, and for The Training Center Legacy Series?
A: Yes, end of July for The Bourbon Kings, possibly something in Nashville and sometime in December for Bloodkiss.

Q: They consulted with Havers about twins and that sometimes the second twin develops late. You slipped a line in about triplets being rare…is she going to have trips?
A: Nope.

Q: Will there be sisters inducted in BDB?
A: Yes.

Q: Back to Rhage’s mood issues. Could it be his dragon curse and the Chosen’s moods?
A: Nope, it’s survivor’s guilt. It’s almost impossible for him to get over the fact that Mary was saved and these other shellans weren’t. There is some sh*t for Mary and him to work out…but it will be fine. Women are really attracted to him. He sees no one but Mary, but if it were a matter of he’d been with another woman when they first got together, and for her there’s a kernel of insecurity, that’s going to have to come out.

Q: iAm is going to spend a lot of time in the Territory and Trez will be with the Brothers. Is it possible that Trez will become a Brother?
A: I think that might be a great solution for him. He’s definitely going to need something to focus on.

Q: You said that the Legacy series would be more focused, and you mentioned Butch and then Paradise and Craeg, so where’s the focus?
A: It would be split between Butch and then Paradise and Craeg. The Legacy series is a great opportunity for more traditional HEA (Happily Ever After) and to focus on the original Brothers and more details of their lives that I just can’t show in the bigger books.

Q: Do you have any advice for writers?
A: Runnnnn! Save yourself!!! Seriously, though, don’t listen to anyone. Write what’s in your head. I don’t believe in critique groups or creative writing classes. Don’t listen to anyone, including me. When in doubt write. Write even when you thinks its crap. Next piece of advice: educate yourself. Pick books you like and deconstruct them. Get a pad and pen and go through these books and decide what did you like. What worked? What did you like? What didn’t you like? This develops your inner editor, then apply that to your own work. The voices in your head and the pictures in your head will always be there. Don’t worry.

Q: How are Butch and Manny related?
A: They are half-brothers. They have the same father.

Thank you to everyone who came today!

She is a winner of the prestigious Romance Writers of America RITA award for Best Paranormal Romance and is a multiple RITA nominee. A graduate of Smith College, she was a double major in History and Art History with a medieval concentration in both and she still longs at times for a return to those days sitting in dark lecture halls, looking at slides of old triptychs and reliquaries. Her idea of absolute heaven is a day filled with nothing but her computer, her dog and her coffee pot and the Brothers, of course.

Haven Carey has given up everything to seek out the man responsible for her brother’s death, but she gets a lot more than she bargained for when she comes face-to-face with the tall, dark, and delicious alpha. When her world is turned on its head, she soon discovers that nothing is as it appears to be.

Cat-shifting PSI-Operative Miles “Boomer” Walsh is the team loner for a reason—nothing and no one touches him. Not anymore. Except when a beautiful vixen shows up, claiming he murdered her brother, and tries to kill him. It’s not the first time a female’s tried to end him. But this time is different. Primal instinct demands his total surrender to whatever the woman has in mind… especially if that something includes a little pain mixed with pleasure.

IMG_1161 The title and book description had me a little confused as I expected more than a light reference to BDSM. That being said, the sex was hot and the instant chemistry between them was nice. I loved the snarky banter between the teams and the offbeat humor throughout the story. The angle on the immediate danger posed by the enemy was well thought out and I enjoyed the little hint at things to come. It is a fun quick read that I wish was more fleshed out and a lot longer. There is so much that could have been added to an already fun read. I felt a little cheated.
