TOUGH JUSTICE (K-9 Special Ops Series Book 1) by Tee O’Fallon

Publication Date: March 29, 2022

Genre: Romantic Suspense

Synopsis

0FF56DC6-3D37-4BD9-914A-15885C0BC145It should have been a routine investigation. Instead, DEA K-9 agent Adam “Deck” Decker watches in horror as one Denver hospital seems to be Ground Zero for overdoses of a new drug. Now Deck can only hope a certain icy, green-eyed ER doctor will help him and his canine partner track down the deadly source.

Dr. Tori Sampson has her reasons for not trusting federal agents, especially ones working for the DEA. But the rash of overdoses—including a heartbreaking case involving a teen—is alarmingly high. And the new opioid is not only extremely dangerous, it defies all the usual medical treatments. So Tori has a choice: work with the big, brawny, and annoyingly hot DEA agent…or watch more innocent people die.

Tori’s the only person who can help Deck break the case, and they’ll need to trust each other, no matter how high the tension and attraction sizzling between them runs. But with every question answered, they realize there’s something more behind these typical teen overdoses. There’s a pattern here, and a pattern can only suggest one thing. There’s a killer on the loose.

I’m a sucker for K-9 stories and was not disappointed in this one. This romantic suspense kept me glued to the pages and guessing until the end. The tension and danger around the string of opioid deaths was riveting and framed the romance nicely. The one downside for me was understanding two intelligent professionals harboring a general mistrust and hatred for certain professions. (I don’t want to give away any storyline.) It took me out of the story’s flow when it was brought up…a lot. Especially Tori’s particular dislike – the DEA were just doing their jobs.  (Ok, I’ll quit on that bit.)

The book was an enemies-to-lovers with a slow burn romance. Normally I like the physical stuff to move faster, but it worked for this story. Deck was the usual hot DEA Agent. I enjoyed his camaraderie with the other agents and his personality. He was my favorite kind of book hero. Tori was a strong and smart ER Doctor that could take care of herself. I liked that the only time she became a damsel in distress, was when she was out of her realm of experience. They made a good and realistic couple. Now – for my favorite character of this book – K-9 Officer Thor. I just loved that dog.

MURDER AT SUNRISE LAKE by Christine Feehan

Publication Date: July 29, 2021

Genre: Romantic Suspense

Synopsis

141F339B-4CAF-4836-A5EB-76244ECD856D#1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan reaches new heights of passion and suspense in this thrilling novel that takes readers deep into the California backcountry, where a woman is tormented by visions of a killer.

It starts in her dreams. Hideous flashes from a nightmare only she can stop. Images of a murderer stalking the ones she cares about most…

Stella Harrison thought she got away from the traumas of her past. Running the Sunrise Lake resort high in the Sierra Nevada mountains has brought her peace, even though she doesn’t truly share her quiet life with anyone. Not even Sam, the hired handyman that notices everything and always seems to know exactly what she needs.

Stella doesn’t know anything about Sam’s past, but somehow over the last two years his slow, steady presence has slipped past her defenses. Still, she knows she can’t tell him about her recent premonitions. So far there’s been no murder. No body. No way to prove what’s about to happen without destroying the life she’s built for herself.

But a killer is out there. And Stella knows that this time she’ll do whatever it takes to stop him.

3.5 stars Donna

Christine Feehan sure took a turn when she wrote this book. I didn’t recognize her writing style at all, despite the paranormal aspect of precognition. It just didn’t flow well for me. I would get into the mystery only to get slogged down in massive repetition descriptions on things. It is advertised as a thriller, but it was more of a mystery with romantic elements. It is an interesting storyline and I kept reading to see if I was right about the perpetrator.

I enjoyed the easy camaraderie of Stella and her friends. I can picture them laughing and bantering, wishing I were one of them. My only comment is that if they were such close friends, why would they all have deep, dark, and background important secrets from each other. Can’t someone just be normal? It just felt a bit “off”. Stella was easy to like, as was Sam – despite his quiet and almost stalkerish behavior – I liked him. They make a good and believable couple. There wasn’t a romantic/relationship build in this book, and the physical encounters were behind doors. It is a decent mystery, but it left me wanting.

UNDERCOVER WOLF (STAT Book 2) by Paige Tyler

Publication Date: May 25, 2021

Genre: Paranormal Romantic Suspense

Synopsis

9895ABED-B249-4AF2-B01F-12CF5007FE64An unexpected partnership leads two wolves to reconsider everything they know…

Alpha werewolf Harley Grant isn’t exactly comfortable with her inner wolf. Even though she’s on a STAT Team where she can use her abilities because her teammates know about her, she refuses to do so, putting herself and sometimes them at risk.

Alpha werewolf Sawyer Bishop would give anything for his M16 Team to know about his inner wolf, but his teammates are mistrustful of anyone or anything with inhuman abilities. When he meets Harley on an overlapping case and realizes she’s a fellow wolf, he’s more than a little intrigued.

Now that STAT and MI6 have to team up to stop a crew of supernatural bad guys intent on causing a nuclear meltdown, Harley can no longer deny her wolf and Sawyer can no longer hide his. As they grow closer to resolving the case and grow closer to each other, they discover things aren’t what they seem and revenge could cost them their lives.

~*~*~*~

8EFDC566-9513-422B-9FC7-564B903C39EA

I found this STAT installment to be fast paced and exciting from page one. International intrigue, mystery, danger, and a variety of new paranormals to make things interesting. Although the extent of their globetrotting seemed excessive for the situations, it did make for fun reading and gave time for the romance to blossom.

Harley’s continued issue about shifting bothered me. She had been with STAT long enough to be comfortable in a pack, so I couldn’t reconcile her hang-up with her strength of character. Thankfully, I liked everything else about her. She made a great match for Sawyer. Both were strong and accomplished yet yearning for more and not sure what that more was. Sawyer was a handsome Alpha in MI6 – I could easily imagine his delicious accent as he worked operations or seduced Harley. It was nice that although they were clearly “the one” for each other, they took the time to let their relationship build instead of either fighting it or surrendering to it. That gave the romance a nice depth. There wasn’t a lot of sexy time (what there is, was hot!), but with the story blending in, it worked just fine for me.

This is a romantic globe-trotting, special agent wild ride from beginning to end. Loved it.

SHADOW STORM (A Shadow Riders Novel Book 6) by Christine Feehan

Publication Date: May 25, 2021

Genre: Paranormal Romance/ Romantic Suspense

Synopsis

0D9D97F7-64F8-4CB6-819E-3FC930042A45A long-simmering feud between two families comes to a head in this gripping novel in Christine Feehan’s New York Times bestselling Shadow Riders series.

As the youngest member of the Ferraro family, Emmanuelle has watched each of her brothers find happiness in love while her own heart was shattered by a lover’s betrayal. For two years she’s stayed as far away from Valentino Saldi as possible—until she learns that he’s been shot during a hostile takeover of his family’s territory.

Emme’s first instinct is to call her brother Stefano for help, and soon the entire Ferraro clan arrives to bring Val back from the brink of death and protect the Saldis from further attack. With one choice Emme has re-exposed herself to Val’s intoxicating pull and dragged her family into the Saldis’ private war.

A deadly storm is brewing, and only time will tell who survives…

~*~*~*~

9C0F7809-58BB-4C10-90BE-5BCF72FB53CE

This is my favorite Shadow Rider story yet. Emmanuelle is such a deeply complex character from mother-induced abuse, that it would take a strong loving man to help her thrive. I say help her – not make her. Yes, Valentino is all alpha male, but he appreciates Emme’s strengths and intelligence. He’s perfect for her. I also liked how you didn’t quite know if his intentions were good or not at first. Their relationship was intriguing and adds a lovely new arc to the series. They are both well developed characters and I immediately became invested in their happily-ever-after….not just for the smoking hot sex.

The storyline itself was dark and yet exciting. (A warning to those who cannot handle child sex-trafficking stories.) Thankfully, it didn’t dwell on the actual abuse happening, but it was disturbing and deepened my anxiousness while reading. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to keep up with the mystery, violence, excitement, and love. Nor the interesting way the two rival families learned to work together and learn more about each other.  I can honestly say that I did not see that ending coming! Hopefully, we hear more about Dario, Val’s right hand man. I love him!

Excerpt

The shadow took Emmannuelle to the lake. The moon was no more than a sliver, but it was bright enough to cast a ribbon of silver to stream a shadow trail for her. Dark purple clouds shimmered over the lake, an ominous portent of the storm advancing on them. She thought that very fitting. There was a storm brewing between Val and her. Between the two Saldifactions. Between the Saldis and the Ferraros. It was all coming together quite soon in a terrible clash of violence. She was used to violence. She had been raised on it.

She crouched low in the mouth of the shadow tube and stared out over the water, trying not to remember all the times she met Val at this very spot and watched the sun set over the lake, his arms around her. More than once, she had glanced over to see her shadow on the ground and those ropes swirling around it, tying it tight, only now they looked as if they were knots upon knots, impossible to pull loose.

Emmanuelle forced herself to remember looking up at Valentino’s face, catching him looking at their shadows with a look of intense satisfaction. Her heart had suddenly gone crazy with trepidation, an ominous warning rushing through her bloodstream. She’d wanted to pull back and reassess, think things through, but then his mouth was on hers and she wasn’t thinking anymore.

That was the way it always seemed to go. Once Valentino was kissing her or touching her, all her worries disappeared. The lessons she’d learned had been harsh. She couldn’t get near him, because the moment she did, something in his voice, in his eyes, always drew her back, always made her believe, no matter what the evidence showed.

She looked around before she stepped out of the mouth of the tube and then walked to the deck she was so familiar with. She’dspent time with Val here often—their secret hideaway. She’dfantasized more than once that this was her home with Valentino, and they were safe here. No one would ever get to them, tell them they couldn’t be together.

She curled up in one of the beach chairs, pulling her legs up and wrapping her arms around her knees, staring out over the choppy water. She just needed a few minutes to gather herself together, and then she’d be able to handle whatever Miceli Saldithrew at them. The moment she allowed herself to sink into sorrow for everything she lost, she felt it—that melody playing along her nerves, sending it throughout her body.

Emmanuelle gasped and sat up straight. Damn him. She’dmanaged to stop that sensation over the last year. Block it out completely. Somehow, those ties imprisoning her shadow so completely, had connected her nerve endings to his so that along with sexual awareness, a terrible, brutal, merciless need for him, there was this . . . beautiful music that soothed when she was upset. At night, when she was alone and unable to sleep, he would send this music to her. The melody sang along her nerve endings, overcoming her sorrow, and easily, because it moved along her nerves, comforted her body, she would fall asleep.

She didn’t want Valentino to touch her in any way. He didn’thave that right. She wanted to find a way to undo their connection. So far, that hadn’t happened. If shadow riders were divorced, their shadows untangled. There had to be a way for her shadow to be freed from the chains he’d bound hers with. It wasn’t just his melody, it was extremely sensual, bringing her body alive, making her aware of herself as utterly feminine, and his—and him as totally masculine, and hers. That they belonged together.

The ties wrapping her shadow so tightly had prevented any other eligible shadow rider from connecting with her. She had traveled extensively to other countries, and there were many riders looking for a female. Not a single male’s shadow had managed to form one knot with hers. She knew it was because Val had tied her shadow up so tight, she was his prisoner.

Emmanuelle rubbed her chin on the top of her knees. She should have told Stefano. Made him listen. She hadn’t because she was afraid Stefano might kill Val, and she was still protecting him. She told herself she didn’t love Valentino Saldi, she couldn’t love him after all the lies and betrayal, but she knew she did. That humiliated her.

She wasn’t a weak woman. She had self-esteem. Or she used to. Until Val. She had confidence in herself as a woman, until Val. Now she was a rider—a damn good one. One of the best. No one could take that from her, not even Val.

Synopsis

F3BD5BC6-EAC2-425A-8882-15D7EABD1122One night is never enough…

For firefighter Sean Riddick, Warrior Fight Club keeps the demons of his past at bay, even though it means seeing Daniela England. Her ball-busting sarcasm drives him nuts, and he knows he’s damaged goods anyway, but he can’t help but remember how good they were together that one time. Now he wants to take her to the mats no matter how much they go toe to toe.

ER nurse Daniela England has lost so much that she’s vowed never to need anyone again. Fight club helps her beat back her survivor’s guilt, but it means dealing with Riddick. The hot-but-infuriating firefighter is everything she wants to avoid, which is why their one-night stand was a mistake. Now she needs to keep her distance so it doesn’t happen again.

But when Dani witnesses Sean’s motorcycle accident, she steps up to help him recover. One on one, they get beneath all the snark and find a connection neither expected. As Sean heals, the sparks between them burst into red-hot passion—and ignite old wounds. Now there are fires all around—and they have to decide which they’ll fight and which they’ll let consume them.

A Note from Laura:

Dear Readers,

I’m so excited to share my new standalone romance, Fighting the Fire! This is the fourth book in my Warrior Fight Club contemporary romance series, which mixes military and sports romance elements to tell the story of an MMA training club which creates a found family for veterans transitioning to civilian life and dealing with their war-borne demons. In Fighting the Fire, Sean and Daniela are two of my favorite characters I’ve ever written–they’re both strong, loyal, snarky, and hiding some pretty deep hurts that in the end make them so perfect for each other. And all that frenemies tension makes the chemistry between them hot AF! I hope you love them as much as I do!

xx Laura Kaye

Donna 5 Stars

My favorite Warrior Fight Club book! It had the club’s camaraderie leading to a beautiful romance. Sean is the perfect flawed-hero….a drop dead gorgeous and funny warrior with a hidden vulnerability that touched me deep inside. I wasn’t sure if Dani was good enough for him at first, but their banter and barbs were almost foreplay for what was to come. I had so much fun watching their relationship grow. I smiled, laughed, cringed a few times, then melted at the hot and sexy romance that developed.

This book had it all: A group dynamic that made me want to be a part of it. An enjoyable romance that made me smile long after it was over. A smoking hot romance that curled my toes. And finally, a lovely heartfelt romance that made me tear up. I loved it.

Donna review 4.5 stars

I enjoyed this long-awaited installment in the Deep Six series. Four years is a long time to remember everyone and back stories, so I wish I had re-read them first. Not that you need to, the story is easy enough to follow and figure out, but it would have been easier to slip back into their world.

I loved Alex and her quirky, nerdy ways. Especially when she rambles while trying not to. I was able to identify with her on most things. The whole virgin thing and throwing herself repeatedly at Mason got a little old and came across as desperate. I began to feel sorry for Mason. Thankfully they figured out their problems….finally, providing a lovely HEA.

As with all Ms. Walker’s books, it’s the group dynamics and camaraderie that keep me reading. She has a way of making us believe these are real people who have history, friendship, and common goals. Add in danger and treasure hunting, and you have an exciting romance. I do wish more time was spent on the treasure hunt, but the threat confronting them was riveting enough to keep my mind off the ship. Danger, battles, sex, romance, humor and tenderness abound. I sure hope we don’t have to wait so long for the next book!

Excerpt

Mason “Monet” McCarthy had a problem.

She was five feet tall. Had curly red hair that was only fifty percent tamed under the best of conditions, and one hundred percent out of control this early in the morning. And she was sitting at a table by the window watching the multicolored ships of the shrimp fleet as they rocked precariously with the wave action out near the horizon while her fingers absently fiddled with the corner of a book.

Oh, and she was also studiously ignoring him.

She was wicked good at that last part. Was making a frickin’ hobby of it, as a matter of fact. Not that he could blame her, considering what she’d offered him.

And what he’d turned down.

Her name was Alexandra Merriweather. Alex for short, which was a ridiculously masculine moniker for such a tiny wisp of a woman. One with skin like porcelain, eyes the color of Colombian emeralds, and a laugh as sweet and tinkling as a music box.

She was his problem because…well…he liked her. Like, liked her liked her. And if his cheating ho of a wife… Scratch that. Rewind… That would be his cheating ho of an ex-wife—had taught him anything, it was that he wasn’t fit to like a woman like Alex.

Not anymore.

All the years schlepping his ass through countless missions, maiming and killing in the name of the flag, had turned him into something…not normal.

That was the phrase Sarah had used when he came home early to surprise her for her birthday, but instead found her screwing his ex-best friend in their marriage bed. Surprise!

“What d’you expect, Mason?” Sarah’s expression had been so sincere. “You’re gone all the time, and when you’re here, you’re not normal.”

Copy that. When it came to a life of violence, the effects were biological, physiological, and psychological. It was the price of being a warrior.

So even though he’d been heartbroken by her betrayal, he’d never worked up much anger over it. Then and now, there was no way to deny the truth. Mason McCarthy was no longer capable of living an ordinary life with the house, the wife, and the two-point-three kids.

The only reason he was sitting in this hotel bar now, a bona fide civilian, was because of a deathbed promise he and the rest of his teammates had made to Rusty Lawrence, the eighth man in their SEAL unit. Barring that, Mason figured he would’ve kept on running and gunning until he found the bullet with his name on it.

With a fingertip, he traced the scrolling black letters inked on the inside of his left forearm. For RL they read. Picturing Rusty’s craggy face, he tried to determine whether to curse the sorry sonofabitch or thank him for forcing them all to make that vow and wave their fond farewells to the navy.

A call of “G’morning, asshole!” cut into his thoughts. Turning, he found Ray “Wolf” Roanhorse standing behind him.

Since he’d yet to determine how good the morning was or wasn’t, Mason grunted his reply. Wolf, used to Mason’s wordless responses, bent to scratch Meat’s exposed belly.

The fat English bulldog slept on his back beside Mason’s barstool, dick and balls on display for the entire breakfast crowd, and his snores nearly drowning out the cries of the seagulls coming in through the hotel’s open windows.

Meat was the only thing Mason had taken from the divorce. He’d let Sarah have their restored three-decker in Southie, along with the furniture and all the minutia that went with a “normal” life. But Meat? Well, not to put too fine a point on it, but he’d have crossed hell with nothing but a bucket of ice water before he’d let her keep his dog.

“A wise woman once said, ‘If you risk nothin’, you risk everythin’.’” With the unaffected ease that came with being supremely fit, Wolf settled himself onto the barstool next to Mason’s.

The two of them had become instant friends when they’d been teamed up as swim partners way back in BUD/S—Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL—training. And through all the intervening years, Wolf had never run out of inspirational quotes. He fancied himself a scholar of the world’s philosophers and religions.

There were times, including this one, when that could get damned annoying.

Instead of answering, Mason kept quiet. He hoped his silence conveyed his wish for more coffee and less talk.

“I said,” Wolf said louder, “a wise woman once—”

“First off,” Mason muttered irritably, “what part of this face”—he pointed to his scowling mug—“makes you think I’m in the mood for morning convo?”

“You’re never in the mood for conversation,” Wolf drawled, his Oklahoma accent making the words sound twice as long as they normally would. “Don’t matter what time of day it is.”

“Second off,” Mason went on as if Wolf hadn’t spoken, “what’s that supposed to mean anyway? If you risk nothing, you risk everything?

“It means you should pull your head from your ass and go for it. Take her up on what she’s offerin’.” Wolf stuck a cocktail straw between his teeth and hailed the bartender to put in an order for a Bloody Mary. Hitching his chin toward Alex’s table, he added, “Come on, man. You know you want to.”

Mason hadn’t been kidding when he said he wasn’t in the mood to talk. But he sure as shit wasn’t in the mood to talk about Alex and her heart-stopping offer.

Publication Date: November 24, 2020

Genre: Paranormal Romantic Suspense

Synopsis

AB71C818-0440-4844-8066-1DA0BA921A58The guys in the Special Wolf Alpha Team (SWAT) are hotter than ever.

SWAT werewolf Diego Martinez was on a mission to save lives when he walked into the hostage situation—he didn’t expect to find a newly turned teenage werewolf and the kid’s fiercely protective mother. For Bree Harlow and her son, Brandon, Diego is a godsend, and not just because he saved the day.

Bree has spent the years since her divorce trying to do her best by Brandon. But lately the boy who used to tell her everything has been keeping secrets. In the face of all the bizarre things happening at home, there’s something about Diego that Bree can’t resist—especially when he’s able to explain Brandon’s new abilities.

But the hostage incident was just the start in a wave of violence that no one can explain, and when Bree and Brandon are caught in the middle, Diego will do everything in his power to protect the family he wants as his own.

This is an exciting installment in the SWAT Series and kept me reading to find out the mystery. As with the other stories, the background is full of danger, intrigue, and mystery. One of my favorite parts of the SWAT Unit is the camaraderie and banter.  Even if you read this as a standalone, you can pick up on their closeness and history.

Bree and Diego may have been destined for one another, but their relationship still moved at a believable pace. Thankfully without either of them delving into the “I don’t want a relationship” mode. Neither did it feel like a done deal because of “the one” tract. It was nice and fun to read. I liked them both and they were just a good fit, her son included. Watching Diego learn to be not just a partner, but a father figure and alpha, was heartwarming.

The story was fun and romantic, even though a part of it seemed a bit far-fetched. (Which I know, is an odd thing to say about a paranormal romance.) That strangeness didn’t detract from my enjoyment though, it just has me curious about book 12. I can’t wait.

Excerpt

Bree had no idea if seconds—or hours—passed, but then she heard something so out of place with her surroundings that it immediately snapped her back to reality.

Growling.

Low, soft, pained…growling.

And it was coming from Brandon.

She looked down to find him gazing up at her with vivid-gold eyes, half-inch-long fangs visible over his bottom lip.

Bree had always considered herself to be a strong person. She’d gone through a lot in her life and dealt with it. But she couldn’t ignore the obvious. The accumulated stress of this situation had been too much for her. She was having a mental breakdown. Because there was no way she was seeing what she thought she saw.

Suddenly, the SWAT cop was at her side, pulling Brandon up and talking to him in a slow, calm voice, telling him to relax and breathe, that everything was over and he was going to be okay at the same time he used his big body like a shield, keeping other people in the diner from seeing her son’s face. His voice was the most soothing and calming sound she’d ever heard in her life, and even though he wasn’t talking to her, she found herself breathing in time with his instructions—in through the nose, hold it for five seconds, and out through the mouth.

Bree watched in stunned fascination as the yellow glow slowly receded from her son’s eyes and the fangs disappeared. All at once, his panicked breathing and frantic features relaxed, and she realized it was the first time in months he didn’t seem tense.

There was a commotion behind her, and she glanced over her shoulder to see the other officers—dressed like Diego but with weapons and heavy-looking tactical gear strapped across their chests—quickly moving the rest of the hostages outside, herding them in such a way that they didn’t have time to look at the body on the floor…or Brandon.

It was like they were all working together to keep anyone from seeing what was happening with her son. Like they all somehow knew something unexplainable was going on with him.

“There you go, kid.” The SWAT cop’s deep voice made her turn back around, and she saw him standing there with his hands on Brandon’s shoulders. “Just a few more deep breaths and you’ll be good to go.”

Diego was right. A few seconds later, Brandon was fine, and Bree found herself wondering if everything she’dseen was a figment of her confused mind.

It could have been, right?

She felt a gentle hand on her arm and looked up into the warmest brown eyes she’d ever seen, a little overwhelmed by the concern she saw there. Diego didn’t even know her, and yet he seemed genuinely worried.

“I think we should get out of here,” he said, nodding toward Brandon. “This place is about to be crawling with cops, crime-scene techs, and general-purpose gawkers. I’d rather be somewhere else before they show up. We have a lot to talk about.”

She was about to ask what he meant by that, but then it hit her. Everything she’d seen had been real. Diego had seen it, too. And now he wanted to talk about it. Because that’s what cops did. They dug into stuff until they knew everything.

Bree’s heart began to thump hard all over again as she realized the danger her son might be in now. What if Diego revealed what he’d seen? Brandon would be treated like a monster. From the look on Brandon’s face, he realized the same thing and was on the verge of freaking out.

“Relax,” the cop said softly, looking first at Brandon, then her. “I’m not a threat to your son. I promise.”

Gaze locked with hers, Diego’s eyes flared vivid yellow-gold. The color was only there for a second before it disappeared, but it was impossible to miss. Or mistake it for anything other than what she’d seen in her son’s eyes. The cop looked at Brandon, earning a wide-eyed gasp. Bree had no idea what any of this meant, but it had to be a good sign…right?

“Like I said,” Diego murmured. “We have a lot to talk about.”

Review: BEYOND POWER by Connie Mann

BEYOND POWER (Florida Wildlife Warriors, Book 2) by Connie Mann

Publication Date: September 1, 2020

Genre: Romantic Suspense

A bush pilot and officer for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Josh Tanner is one of the tough cops needed to manage these rugged areas. Josh isn’t going to stand by and watch Delilah risk her life, but unless he can get her to trust him, she may end up being the next victim.

~*~*~*~

This was a fun, tension filled romance that kept me turning the pages. It helped that I liked Delilah and Josh from the start. They are both complex, yet relatable and I couldn’t wait for them to give in to the romance. The suspense part of the story kept me on edge wondering where the next incident would come from. Some of the situations may seem a bit farfetched in this day and age, but since it isn’t in my realm of experience, I went along for the ride and let it flow. Fast paced, action filled, and sweet romance….a nice combination. I can’t wait for book 3!

Donna review 4.5 stars

This book is a wild ride of excitement from page one. I read it as a stand-alone, but it seemed too convoluted at times to keep all the players straight, and I realize I should have read the two before. I will now go back and read them.

Even though I could not relate to Kit and her life experiences, I soon connected with her and became quite invested in her future. Castle was a bit slower to get under my skin. From the outside he seemed closed off, but his personality began to show through as the story progressed. It almost seemed like a fated romance than one that would naturally progress. Of course, all the danger and action swirling around them didn’t leave time for wooing.

I am a sucker for group dynamics when it comes to special ops stories and this one was fairly good in showing how they get along and work together. I wish I had read the first two before tackling this one, but I love Juno Rushdan’s writing style and wild action, so I plan to read more. It is an adrenaline pumping, sexy romance from an author I plan to follow.

Donna 5 Stars

This spin-off from the SWAT series promises to be a lot of fun. International intrigue, inspired danger, espionage, romance, and sex. The fast-paced action was not dimmed by the normal world-building in a new series, it flowed nicely as the newly formed group got to know each other. I only have one tiny issue. Jestina was a trained operative thrust into the world of supernatural creatures, then put into a team of werewolves to help combat the bad creatures. Why was she not trained or informed about werewolf physiology and behavior prior to joining the team? That seemed like a misstep to me.

I liked Jestina and understood her being uncomfortable around a pack of werewolves, I also liked that she was smart enough to learn and overcome her issues. She is smart, strong and kick-ass. Jake is the ultimate alpha and hero for this story. The classic strong hero with a heart of gold. They are both well matched and their complex personalities easily shine through during the story. I also enjoyed the new group they’re forming, each getting to know their teammates and learning to trust one another. I look forward to the next installment!
