I absolutely loved everything about this book! THE DARKEST PROMISE is the thirteenth book in Gena Showalter’s Lords of the Underworld series and features Cameo, the keeper of Misery and Lazarus the Cruel and Unusual. I recommend reading the series in order to fully enjoy the series storyline.

I wasn’t super excited for Cameo’s book because I really didn’t know much about her from the previous books other than she was the only female LORD. I absolutely LOVED her though! She’s everything you want a heroine to be because she’s strong, passionate, emotional, and she fights for her man. Lazarus was just perfect for her! I loved their banter and I loved that he was the one to make her smile and laugh. Their chemistry and the romance burned up the pages. Viola, Rathorne and the twins, Ever and Urban added fun to the book and I want more of them! This was definitely a girl power book with all the strong female characters. Viola was there as Cameo’s friend and the villains were powerful women as well. This would be a fun book to read with your girlfriends and discuss with some wine one night.

THE DARKEST PROMISE is one of my favorite books in the Lords of the Underworld series! I couldn’t put it down and I just loved everything about it!  I highly recommend this series for paranormal romance lovers. Gena Showalter is one of the Queens of paranormal romance and she always delivers a great love story.

WOLF HUNT (SWAT, Book 6) by Paige Tyler

Publication Date: June 6, 2017

Genre: Paranormal Romance

SynopsisIMG_8822New Orleans is hot.
Remy Boudreaux is hotter.
…it’s a perfect storm.

Boudreaux is back in New Orleans with his fellow Dallas SWAT officers for a week of training with the NOLA PD. On the eve of a tropical storm, Remy and his buddies prowl the French Quarter. A tantalizing scent captures Remy’s senses, forcing him to follow until he is face-to-face with Triana Bellamy―his beautiful high school crush.

Ever since Remy’s partner―and first love―was killed on the job, he’s kept women at a distance. As Remy and Triana grow closer, he struggles to keep things casual.

But when a mysterious wolf pendant ropes them both into danger, Remy’s protective instincts kick in. He may have to reveal his true self…and hope that Triana can accept him as he is.

Donna 5 Stars

Fun, fast paced cat-and-mouse story. The SWAT team once again comes to the rescue in all their glory. Remy had some hang-ups, but he got his head on straight. I loved that it was set in New Orleans and delved a toe into the mystical possibilities of the city. It added a fun edge to it all. Triana was fun, and her reaction to learning about werewolves was realistic. I thought she pushed one investigative scene past her personality, but it worked out and I easily forgave her. I loved it, and can’t wait for the next one.

Synopsis

IMG_8798Firefighter Shae McCullough is all-in, all the time. When her reckless response at a fire earns her a two-week penance filing paperwork for the arson investigation unit, the rules and routines are enough to bore her senseless. But the discovery of a possible arson at a murder scene has her instincts fired up, and when Shae is assigned to assist Remington’s elite intelligence unit with their investigation, she’s all too ready to jump in with both boots first.

To tech and surveillance expert James Capelli, logic isn’t just a job requirement, it’s a way of life. He’s less than thrilled to work with Shae, whose impulsiveness threatens his sanity and whose curves threaten his composure. Despite their differences, they uncover a case bigger than anyone could have expected—along with an attraction that burns deep.

But this killer is no stranger, and Capelli’s got a dark past. Can he and Shae outsmart a ruthless murderer, or will his secrets bury them both?

~*~*~*~

Donna 5 Stars

I immediately liked Shae and Capelli. She was brash without being reckless and frustrating, and he was analytical while still being personable. (I really liked Capelli!) They fit together perfectly. Throw in a diabolical bad-guy and you have a good story. It was fast paced and laced with some smoking hot romance – great combination. If I had to say anything, it would be that the ending seemed a little too easy; I was still satisfied but kept waiting for something. This is a fun read with characters that stayed with you long after the book ended.

Grieving the death of his partner, Theo Bosco has no room in his life for distractions. Though his instincts scream that he should avoid Juliet ‘Jules’ Jackson, he can’t seem to stay away. It doesn’t help that Theo’s new K9 companion has fallen head over paws with Jules’s rambunctious family.

Or that when he’s with her, Theo finally knows peace.

When Jules rescued her siblings, whisking them away to the safety of the beautifully rugged Colorado Rockies, she never expected to catch the eye—or the heart—of a cop. Yet as Jules struggles to fight her growing attraction to the brooding K9 officer, another threat lurks much closer to home…

And this time, there’s no escape.

Donna 5 Stars

I loved this first installment of her new series. It has all the thrills and goosebumps that we expect from Katie Ruggle. The beginning had a little back-and-forth timeline thing, that I couldn’t decide if I liked or not. Gladly, I quickly got over that and sunk deep in the story. Jules acted so realistically to everything going on around her, while brooding Theo found himself pulled into her life. Although realists would insist that more needs to be done for her siblings, it is a work of fiction and fun to read. I cannot wait for the next book!

I enjoyed this installment in the K-9 Rescue series. Oliver is such a joy, with his good looks, strength and sense of fun. The glimpse of vulnerability only made him more desirable. Macayla is feisty and self-confident, without being pushy. I loved her personality and how she fit so well with Oliver. She did a few things that belied her intelligence and made me squint – but other than that, the story was good. A fun, fast-paced, who-done-it, that made me read it in one sitting.

Wow! I loved this installment in the Shadow Riders series. It started fast and never let me up for air. Wild, heart thumping action; tempered with a sensual and hot romance. Ricco is a hard man to describe, there were so many enticing layers to him. I liked Mariko from the start. Strong, intelligent and loyal. She had so many obstacles in her life, yet she wasn’t bogged down by them. I really wanted them both to be happy, so they could go on enjoying that big family of his. I like how the Ferraros banter, then get down to scary business. I think this is one book that I’ll be reading again, just so I can get psyched up for the next one.

IMG_8494He’s mountain-tough. She’s city-smart. The sparks are about to fly…

Only the most resilient of souls could breathe new life into an all-but-forgotten town nestled in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains—but what they get in return might be worth the heartache it takes to make it happen…

Gracely, Colorado, was once a booming mining town. No one knows that better than Brandon Evans. His father’s company kept the town thriving for years—until Brandon threatened to expose his illegal practices and drove him away. Everyone blames Brandon and his brother for turning Gracely into a ghost town—but the tenacious residents cling to a long-held legend about the land’s healing powers. And Brandon has a plan to spin that legend into reality…

Lilly Preston took a leap of faith and moved to Gracely a year ago to save her nephew from an abusive situation. She would do anything for him, even sacrifice her glamorous job. Reluctantly, the former PR hot shot takes a job at the ruggedly handsome Evans brothers’ Mile High Adventures, a company offering restorative Rocky Mountain vacations.

Brandon thinks PR is pointless, and Lilly knows less than nothing about the outdoors. Which is exactly why they need each other—in ways neither ever imagined…

Donna 4 stars

A nice romance, more on the emotional side than physical. Brandon and Lilly had a lot of emotional baggage they needed to work through. Although I liked them each, they carried the “I can’t have this relationship” thing a bit too far for me. All in all, an enjoyable story. I look forward to the next Mile High story.

What a fun book! If you like your romance mixed with some quirky Cajun charm, then this one does the trick. I am glad that the author kept it fun, without going overboard into slapstick mayhem. Daniel and Samantha made such a good pair, I liked them both immediately. All the family and friends around them made me wish I lived in New Orleans with them. This book is one I couldn’t put down, smoothly written, sprinkled with romance, hot sex, danger and lots of smiles and laughter. I loved it.

My life and my books are a celebration of new beginnings. Although I am a livelong writer–I’m the oddball who liked writing essays in school–it wasn’t until the early 1990s that my writing interest turned to novels. It was a new beginning for me…a totally different career path from the journalism I had been practicing. More than twenty novels later, I am still in love with writing…and with new beginnings.

No wonder all of my books deals with new beginnings in some way or another. In fact, my first novel, The Reluctant Viking, first published in 1994, was about a woman on the brink of divorce looking for a chance to start all over. A new beginning for poor Ruby Jordan. Fast forward more than ten years and you will find there is a theme of new beginnings in all my books. Doesn’t matter if it’s divorce, death, despair, time travel, loneliness, boredom or plain old dissatisfaction, readers want to know that there is a chance for…yep, new beginnings.

One of the greatest gifts we have in this world is to find work we love, which is appreciated by others. I have been especially blessed in that regard.

~*~*~*~

Excerpt

I freeze in terror. What a waste of Dad’s money those self-defense classes turned out to be.
“Silver, it’s just me,” a lilting Irish voice says at my ear, the hand dropping from my shoulder.
I turn around to find myself nose to nose with my vampire from New Year’s Eve, his bright green eyes piercing mine.
I’m struck by several conflicting emotions all at once—anger, relief, and in a tiny measure—happiness. Anger wins out. On impulse, I slap him hard across the face, pointing with a white, clenched hand to the garden I’ve just sprinted across.
“I thought I was about to be murdered, asshole,” I hiss through my teeth. “I ripped my coat. My heels are ruined. All because you thought it might be fun to follow me home.”
He smirks, nonplussed, sliding his hands into the deep pockets of his navy pea coat. “I wasn’t following you,” he says, eyes twinkling.
“Oh, that’s right,” I say, voice dripping with sarcasm. “You were just walking me home again. Except this time from fifty yards behind and without me knowing.”
Before he has a chance to reply, the front door flies open and my landlady Vera emerges in a long, silky, oriental dressing gown. She is wigless for once, a Pucci scarf twisted into a makeshift turban covering her head. In her right hand, she holds a meat cleaver.
“Step away, you rapist bastard!” she yells, holding the large knife shakily aloft.
I glare at the vampire, expecting him to either throw his hands in the air or take a step backwards. Instead his brows knit together and his mouth drops open. “Etta Marlow?” he asks, staring at her as if she just walked on water.
The meat cleaver lowers a fraction. “What’s it to you?” Vera demands, her voice losing some of its previous menace.
I roll my eyes. Of course he remembers her. He’s probably seen all her films.
“It is you!” he erupts, wagging a finger in her direction. “You’re Etta Marlow! You played Susie De Sousa in Girl Uptown with Gregor Lane. I love that movie.”
The meat cleaver drops, forgotten, to her side as she pats her turban, eyelashes fluttering. “Fancy you recognizing me,” she mutters happily.
“Excuse me, Vera,” I interject, “but there’s still a potential rapist on your doorstep here.”
Vera looks back to the vampire, who shakes his head, smiling. “A misunderstanding, Etta. I was making sure Silver here made it home safely. She got the wrong end of the stick.”
Vera, or Etta as she was once known, glances over at me. “Do you know this charming fellow, dear?”
I scowl at them both. “Well, yes, but— “
“Well then, you must come in, dear boy. I could show you my Oscar, if you like?”
The Vampire looks as if he’s about to pee himself with excitement. “You mean the one you got for Days Like These with Vic Stevens?”
She holds out a thin hand towards him, gold bangles jangling on her wrist. “The very one, dear. Come, come in.”
I watch, stunned, as he takes her hand, green eyes lit up in excitement.
Before stepping through the door, he hangs back. “Ms. Marlow, I’m afraid it’s only courteous to let you know before I enter that I’m not human. I’m a vampire.”
Vera’s tinkly laugh echoes around the street like a bicycle bell. “Oh, you’re so sweet. Didn’t you know I’ve met dozens of vampires? They’re two a penny in Hollywood, darling.”
Following her across the threshold, he flashes the cockiest of grins. “Coming, Silver?”
My jaw drops in disgust. I’m tempted to sulk off to my basement flat, but instead, I trail after them and slam the door.
We follow Vera along an elegant gold and cream hallway into her immaculate, monochrome front room. Even though I’ve been here on numerous occasions, I’m always mesmerized by the sheer extravagance of the place—buttery white leather sofas, cream fur rugs, one wall is painted black and white to resemble piano keys. It should look tacky, but somehow, it works.
“You two make yourselves at home whilst I go and make myself presentable.” Vera says. “Then I’ll dig out that old Oscar of mine.”
I know, of course, the Oscar will not have to be ‘dug’ out of anywhere. It’s always on display in the den, alongside her film stills and other memorabilia.
“I didn’t catch your name,” she croons to the vampire before she leaves.
He puts a hand on his chest. “Forgive me, I should have introduced myself. Between the meat cleaver threat and getting slapped by Silver here, I seem to have forgotten my manners. I’m Logan. Logan Byrne.”
For strange and unfathomable reasons, my stomach flips. Logan. It suits him.
“Charming,” Vera says. “Don’t you go anywhere, Mr. Byrne.”
As soon as Vera disappears from the room, Logan collapses into one of the white leather arm chairs and puts his crossed feet onto the cut glass coffee table.
I’m still standing, one brow arched, arms folded across my chest. “So, Logan,” I hiss. “What the hell is this?”
He grins, dimples putting in their first appearance of the night as he gazes up at me. “Did anyone ever tell you, you’re particularly beautiful when you’re angry?”
“Oh, cut the crap,” I say, ignoring the hot flush climbing my neck. “Why did you follow me?”
“Like I told Etta, I wanted to make sure you got home safely, that’s all. Though I’m a little confused as to why you have three houses.” He holds up fingers to count. “The one I left you at on New Year’s, the one Nathaniel dropped you at, and now this—cohabiting with an aged 1940’s screen siren.”
“It’s none of your business,” I say, chin in the air. “And anyway, how do you know Nathaniel?”
He shrugs. “I know most of the vampires in London.”
I humpth. “I bet you do.”
In the blink of an eye, he is towering over me, face inches from mine. I inhale his clean, masculine scent like a drowning person coming up for air, and as he leans closer, I find myself gravitating towards him—a flower reaching for sunlight.
He pulls the collar of my coat aside and peers into the gap. As his fingers brush my jaw, an uncontrollable shiver zings through me. I disguise it by stepping out of reach and batting his hand away.
“He did a messy job on your neck,” he says, in a low voice.
“What’s it to you?” I snap.
Before I realize what’s happening, he closes the gap between us. One hand cupping my cheek, he bends over, lips brushing the place Nathaniel bit me, tongue gently swiping the puncture holes.
“That should stop the bleeding,” he says, pulling away. “But you’ll still have a bruise in the morning.”
I rub my neck and look at my fingers. No blood. “So, you can heal wounds? Just another of your unique skills along with beating up drunk men and following young women home for kicks?”
He sinks back into the armchair. “You’re a sexy girl, Silver. I’m glad we’ve met again.”
I snort incredulously, trying, without success, to forget the warmth of his hand on my face. “Well, you certainly made sure we did.”
“And of course,” he continues, pretending to examine a photo on the coffee table. “I’m hugely flattered I’ve managed to turn your head towards my kind.”
“You didn’t turn anything,” I say tartly.
He cocks a brow, gaze burning through my clothes like a laser. I feel a sharp twitch between my legs, as though he’s controlling my private areas by some invisible string. “Are you sure about that?”

This was such a fun read! DATING THE UNDEAD is the first book in Juliet Lyons new paranormal series, The Undead Dating Service Series. The series title tells readers exactly what it’s about, a dating service for vampires and humans. I really enjoyed this one. It was a fun and sexy romance that had me smiling, rooting for the characters and flipping the pages. I’m adding this author to my buy list and I’ll be grabbing the next book when it releases.  I recommend this series for paranormal lovers looking for a fun new vampire series.

10 Ways to Tell if Your Date is Actually a Vampire

  1. They only want to meet at night, using the excuse that they’re not ‘a morning person’.
  2. On a date to the beach, you catch them harassing the lady in the mini mart to check the stock room for Hawaiian Tropics factor 500.
  3. When you get a papercut, they’re oddly excited.
  4. They’re still not over their ex. Even though the latter has been dead for two hundred years.
  5. Every time you mention a church wedding they recoil in horror*.
  6. They often refer to Eric from True Blood as someone who ‘has their shit together.’
  7. They drink a lot of red wine, but never seem drunk. Wait—is that actually wine?
  8. They have pale, flawless skin despite the fact you’ve never once seen them cleanse and/or moisturise.
  9. When watching any kind of sporting event, they constantly scoff and sneer at the athletes. ‘Please! Is that the best they can do?’
  10. They are particularly keen to remind you that the neck is a top five erogenous zone…

*Does not necessarily mean they are a vampire. Mortals—particularly males—are also prone to behaving in this way.

IMG_8364#1 New York Times bestselling author Sherrilyn Kenyon debuts a sweeping new epic saga sure to appeal to the millions of her Dark-Hunter fans

Deadmen tell their tales…

To catch evil, it takes evil. Enter Devyl Bane–-an ancient dark warlord returned to the human realm as one of the most notorious pirates in the New World. A man of many secrets, Bane makes a pact with Thorn–-an immortal charged with securing the worst creations the ancient gods ever released into our world. Those powers have been imprisoned for eons behind enchanted gates…gates that are beginning to buckle. At Thorn’s behest, Bane takes command of a crew of Deadmen and, together, they are humanity’s last hope to restore the gates and return the damned to their hell realms.

But things are never so simple. And one of Bane’s biggest problems is the ship they sail upon. For the Sea Witch isn’t just a vessel, she’s also a woman born of an ancient people he wronged and who in turn wronged him during a centuries long war between their two races–a woman who is also sister to their primary target. Now Marcelina, the Sea Witch, must choose. Either she remains loyal to her evil sister and almost extinct race against Bane and his cause, and watches humanity fall, or she puts faith in an enemy who has already betrayed her. Her people over the totality of humanity–let’s hope Bane can sway her favor.

Loved it! DEADMEN WALKING is the first book in Sherrilyn Kenyon’s new historical fantasy romance series, the Deadman’s Cross Series, and it is part of the Dark-Hunter World. The Deadmen are brought back by Thorn to protect humanity from demons and they’re given a second chance to earn redemption. Bane leads the crew of Deadmen. This series is different from the Dark-Hunter series. I thought it was more fantasy than romance. There is a romance between Bane and Marcelina but I didn’t think it was the focus of the book. I really enjoyed it and I recommend it for Dark-Hunter fans even if you don’t normally enjoy the Fantasy genre. The Deadman’s Cross Series is an exciting new fantasy world and it was action packed. I couldn’t put it down and can’t wait for the next book. I’m already in love with Deadmen!
