Donna 5 Stars

This story is fast paced and exciting. I liked both characters instantly, even though I didn’t have a lot in common with either one. I liked that they were almost polar opposites, and yet respected each other’s views with an open mind. Their disagreements never got to the “that’s enough already” stage for me, and I liked that. The romance part was smoking hot and blended well into the story, smoothly ebbing and flowing with the danger all around them. I can’t wait to read the next installment to find out what happens with them and the rest of the lost platoon! I loved it.

I love Katie Ruggle’s stories, the characters are fun and realistic no matter what situation they’re in. Hugh is, of course, handsome, and he has a sense of humor that is not over the top. I wasn’t sure about Kaylee at first, but she grew on me fast. Together they made a fun couple to read about. It was a fast-paced, action filled suspense, with enough romantic tension to keep me turning the pages for more. I’m liking this new series.

“How’s your head?”
His smile dimmed just slightly before returning to full wattage. “Still where it’s supposed to be. I might have lost a few brain cells, but there were plenty to spare.”
Grace rolled her eyes. Of course he would joke about almost dying. Forget that she hadn’t been able to sleep or think about anything else for the past five days since Jules told her about the explosion. She didn’t know why she cared, why she worried about him, why the idea of him almost dying made her heart hurt. It wasn’t like they were friends. Every time they saw each other, they argued. Even now, seeing Hugh all happy and smirky and healthy-looking, she felt her worry turn to annoyance. “Have you found out who planted the bomb yet?”
“Can’t talk about an ongoing investigation,” he said lightly. “You know what we can talk about, though?”
“What?” she asked warily. He was just a few steps away, and she realized that she’d been moving closer without even realizing it. Stupid feet. Don’t they know he’s an ass?
Hugh gestured at her soaked coveralls. “This incredibly fashion-forward look you have going here.”
Her finger hovered close to the trigger. So maybe he’d lose a little skin if she gave him a quick spray. Really, it was what he deserved. With a great effort of will, she kept the washer down at her side.
“You like it?” Posing with her free hand on her hip, she gave him her best sultry-model face. If she had to be stuck wearing wet coveralls and too-large rubber boots, then she was going to own the look.
He chuckled, although his gaze heated as he took her in. “Oh yeah. It’s kennel chic.”
“Right.” Dropping the pose, she frowned at him, trying to figure out why he was looking at her like he wanted to eat her. There was nothing appealing about her at the moment. She’d known this even before she glanced down again, confirming the horrid state of her appearance. “I miss wearing pretty things.”
Immediately, his gaze sharpened. “Pretty things? Like what you used to wear to work? What did you do before in…Bangor?”
That slight pause reminded her that he was a cop—a cop who thought she was a liar. Tipping her head, she gave him a flirty look. “You want to know something?”
“Yeah. What?” He moved a half step closer, his inquisitive expression shifting to something a little…hungrier.
She smiled and leaned toward him. His gaze dropped to her lips. “I’m beginning to understand why someone would want to blow you up.”
To her surprise, he laughed. It made him even more stupidly attractive than usual, and Grace found herself unable to look away. “I’m told that a lot.”
Thrown off guard, she scrambled for a witty retort. “Maybe you should, you know, work on that.”
“Work on fixing my personality?” He leaned against the wall, and Grace gave a silent sigh. It looked as if he was settling in for a chat. As much as she welcomed an interruption from kennel cleaning, Hugh wasn’t her first pick. Whenever he was around, she felt strange, unsettled, almost jittery. He’d pop into her head at odd times, and just the thought of him sent a rush of adrenaline through her veins. It was…uncomfortable.
She realized that he was watching her with a tiny, knowing smile, and she tried to remember what they’d been talking about. “Whatever.” Grace figured that would cover most potential topics. “Why are you here?”
“Otto’s working with his latest project.”
“That explains why he’s here. Why are you here?”
He smirked. The man was impossible to offend. “I was bored, so I tagged along. It’s a good thing, too. We haven’t talked much lately. I was going to stop by to watch Tattered Hearts with you again, but Theo gave me a little lecture about the importance of keeping my lockpicks in my pants.”
“What a shame,” she said flatly, proud of herself for not giving in and smiling. It was hard to resist Hugh’s easy charm. “Well, this was a nice chat. We’ll have to do it again sometime…or not.”
His grin grew, and it became harder to keep her deadpan expression in place. “Oh, our visit isn’t over. Otto won’t be done for a while yet. So tell me, Not-Grace, how long did you live in Bangor?”
“Almost two years.”
“And before that?”
“Austin, Texas.”
“For how long?”
“Eight months.”
“Before that?”
“Portland.”
“Maine or Oregon?”
“Oregon.”
“Do you ever tell the truth?”
“Why do you think I’m lying?”
He smiled at her—a long, slow, easy, predatory baring of his teeth. “I can tell when someone’s lying. It’s my superpower.”
Grace shivered and immediately hoped he hadn’t noticed. By his expression, however, he’d seen it. He looked like a smug housecat, ready to pounce on a trapped mouse. “It’s none of your business. So I’ve moved around a lot. That’s not a crime. I haven’t done anything wrong.”
“Then why are you lying?”
“I told you.” To her annoyance, she couldn’t hold his gaze. Turning her head, she stared at one of the kennels. “I’m not lying. Go away. I have to get back to work.”
She started spraying down the kennels again. The entire time, she felt his gaze on the back of her neck, as hot as sunburn on her skin. It made her crazy that he could bring out such a reaction in her, when she was just a suspect to him. Every time Hugh was nearby, her skin buzzed and her blood flowed faster, and when he left, she felt let down and lonely. He was a cop, and an annoying one at that. Why did she allow him to affect her like this? When she reached the end of the row, she couldn’t take it anymore. Turning, she huffed, “Would you please just…”
He was gone.
She glanced around, but she was alone. Moving over to the door, she looked out and saw Hugh limping slightly as he made his way to the squad car.
It was her turn to watch him. Crazily enough, she felt slightly deflated now that he’d left. Shaking off her idiotic thoughts, she firmed her jaw and turned back to the kennels. Forget Hugh, she told herself firmly. There’s poo to clean.
Even so, she couldn’t resist a final glance out the open door.

Love it! Falcyn is my new favorite dragon in this series! DRAGONSWORN is part of the Dragons Rising Trilogy in the Dark-Hunters Series. If you’re new to the series I would recommend you start at the beginning to fully enjoy it. Each book has a HEA ending for different couples but the series needs to be read in order to fully appreciate the characters and series plot. If you just want the dragons I’d recommend starting with SON OF NO ONE. I would also recommend reading the Lords of Avalon Series that Sherrilyn Kenyon writes as Kinley MacGregor because the dragons and the Avalon world are in DRAGONSWORN. DRAGONSWORN is Medea, Stryker’s daughter and Apollo’s granddaughter and Falcyn’s story. I didn’t like Medea in the previous books and viewed her as one of the villains, but Sherrilyn Kenyon has a way of turning a villain into a favorite character and hero. Falcyn and Medea were perfect for each other! Their story was full of heart wrenching emotions, danger, romance and it revealed a lot of new secrets. I need to make a cheat sheet to reference all the secrets.  Sherrilyn Kenyon is a master storyteller and if I had to choose one author’s books to read for the rest of my life I’d choose her books. I always discover some new information I missed when I re-read her series and they never get old or predictable. She always delivers new twists and turns that keep the series exciting. I highly recommend anything she writes and can’t want for the next release!

I loved SPELLBINDER! This is the second book in Thea Harrison’s Moonshadow Trilogy that is set in the Elder Races World. You don’t need to read the Elder Races Series before starting this one, but I would recommend reading book one in the Moonshadow Trilogy, MOONSHADOW, before starting book two. Each book features a different couple and can be read as standalone though. SPELLBINDER is a Morgan, a sorcerer/ werewolf and Sidonie, a human musician’s book. Morgan was one of the villains in book one and even faced off with Dragos in the Elder Races Series, but he’s definitely hero material in this book. I love a good villain to hero storyline. SPELLBINDER was full of danger, mystery, magic and smoking hot romance. Thea Harrison is a master world builder and I loved her take on Avalon! I highly recommend this exciting and unique paranormal series. I’m obsessed with this series and I can’t wait for the next book!

Wow! I loved this fast-paced mystery. Serial killer, hot FBI agent, Glacier National Park….it had it all. Even though Maggie seemed a little whiney at times, I still liked her. Vic was solid, sexy and caring; a nice combination that worked well with the hot romance. The story never let up and kept me glued to the pages wondering who the killer was, and how the HEA would come about. I can’t wait for the next one.

I love this series and was so excited to get my hands in Adam’s book. Adam is my favorite Dunne brother! I just love him! WICKED KISS is the fourth book in Rebecca Zanetti’s Realm Enforcers series. The series is a paranormal series with witches, shifters, vampires and demons and focuses on the Dunne family of witches. The Realm Enforcers series is a spinoff series from the Dark Protectors series that focused on the vampires in the same paranormal world. You don’t need to read the Dark Protectors series before picking up this series, but I highly recommend both series. I love them and the Dark Protectors series would make a great binge read. I recommend reading each series in order, but each book can be read as a standalone. WICKED KISS was action packed, full of danger and smoking hot romance. It kept me riveted and I couldn’t put it down. I was already in love with Adam before picking up this book and fell even more in love with him while reading his story. Victoria was just perfect for him! Their banter was fun and the romance was hot. Rebecca Zanetti is one of my favorite authors because she’s a great storyteller that always delivers an exciting love story. I highly recommend anything she writes and I loved WICKED KISS!

Another exhilarating ride with the Black Knights Inc. It had all the camaraderie, constant changing danger and smoking hot romance that you come to expect in this series. Chelsea was very relatable and realistic – which made her fun to read. Dagan is of course, hot, alpha and gorgeous, but he has a tender and fun side that drew you in. Together, they were heartwarming couple. I loved it and couldn’t read it fast enough.

Loved! SAVAGED DREAMS is the first book in Jennifer Lyon’s Savaged Illusions Trilogy, a rock star romance series. There is a prequel novella, SAVAGED SURRENDER, you can grab before this one, but you don’t need to read it before picking up SAVAGED DREAMS. I always enjoy any book I pick up written by Jennifer Lyon, whether she’s writing contemporary romance or paranormal romance she always delivers a great love story. SAVAGED DREAMS is a great love story! I completely fell in love with Justice, the sexy, dirty talking rock star and I was rooting for Liza. Jennifer Lyon brought the heat! The romance was smoking hot and the love story gave me all the feels. There is a bit of a cliffhanger, but not the kind of cliffhanger that makes me want to throw my kindle. The first part of the Trilogy still felt complete. I can’t wait for the next release though. I want more of Justice! I highly recommend this new trilogy for romance lovers looking for a new rock series. I couldn’t put this one down.

“I suppose we’re going to be seeing Carly and Bran while we’re in Dallas next week.”

“Exactly. And you don’t want to raise a bunch of questions. So I was thinking it might be smarter for me to get my own hotel room. I can lay low and they don’t have to know I’m in town.” She’d sat up for a good portion of the night doing two things: thinking about how much she’d wanted to kiss Drew Lawless and then freaking out about it because that was a bad idea. Beware of billionaires with six-pack abs. It was her new mantra. Yes, she’d signed the contract last night, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t reason with her new . . . boss . . . partner . . . whatever he was.

“I told Bran you’re coming with me.”

This was exactly what she’d worried about. “You told him? I thought I would have more time. How am I going to explain this to Carly? I think she’ll wonder why one of her closest friends didn’t mention she was dating her future brother-in-law.”

“I’ve already explained it. We wanted to make sure it was real before we went public. It’s that simple. We met in Los Angeles. I contacted you. We went on a few dates and we’ve been talking a lot. You’ve come out to Austin because we’re contemplating moving in together. This is a trial run,” he said calmly, as though he hadn’t upended her entire life. “Also, I asked Bran not to mention it to Carly because you would rather tell her yourself. It was a safe bet Bran wouldn’t ask too many questions, but Carly will want to know everything. It’s why we need to get our stories straight.”

She focused on the words that messed with her life. “Moving in together? You told them we’re thinking of moving in together?”

“How else was I supposed to explain it when all your belongings arrive here?”

“What?” She winced because the words had come out in a screech. “I’m having your things packed up as we speak. They’ll be here in a few days.”

“Why the hell would you do that?” How was she going to get everything back to LA?

Drew relaxed again as though he’d already gone over this argument in his mind and knew he would win. “I wanted you to be comfortable. This is going to be a full-time job, and not a quick one. I suspect we’ll have to keep up our ruse for at least six months. Potentially a year. Also, that apartment you were living in was incredibly dangerous. Did you know it was recently condemned? The movers told me about it when they explained they were charging me extra for how fast they had to move. It’s scheduled to be demolished in two weeks.”

“What?” She stared at him. He expected her to live with him for six months to a year? Somewhere in the back of her head she’d been thinking a week or two tops, and then she’d go back to LA and work from there. Her apartment building was shitty and she was fairly certain someone cooked meth in part of it, but it was all she could afford. And it was solidly built. There had been no hint that anyone was planning on building in her part of LA. Gentrification had not reared its upscale, hipster head yet, so that left her with one very manipulative bastard. “Tell me you did not buy my apartment building and schedule it for demolition in an attempt to leave me with nowhere to go.”

He managed to look almost angelic in the soft light of morning. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

I thought Bran was my favorite Lawless brother, but Drew won me over and nudged his brother out of the way. I completely fell in love with him. I can’t resist a nerdy alpha hero. In the previous books I thought Drew was cold and unfeeling, but this book revealed things in his past that contributed to it. He’s the oldest Lawless sibling and when their parents were murdered he took care of and protected his family and still feels the need to protect and take care of everyone he loves. Shelby was perfect for Drew and I just loved them together. Their chemistry was fan your face hot! REVENGE had plenty of hot romance, suspense with some twists and some humor. I couldn’t put it down and thoroughly enjoyed it!

Lawless series is a spinoff of Lexi Blake’s Masters and Mercenaries series. The series has a book for each of the brothers in the Lawless family, but their sister Mia has a book in the Masters and Mercenaries series, Dominance Never Dies. You don’t have to read it before picking up the Lawless Series, but if you want to follow the complete storyline I’d read it first. REVENGE is the third book in the series and I’d recommend reading the series in order and starting with the first book, RUTHLESS.

I loved the Lawless series and highly recommend it for romance lovers looking for a great mystery/ romantic suspense series to binge read. It’s going on my list of favorites.

I absolutely loved everything about this book! THE DARKEST PROMISE is the thirteenth book in Gena Showalter’s Lords of the Underworld series and features Cameo, the keeper of Misery and Lazarus the Cruel and Unusual. I recommend reading the series in order to fully enjoy the series storyline.

I wasn’t super excited for Cameo’s book because I really didn’t know much about her from the previous books other than she was the only female LORD. I absolutely LOVED her though! She’s everything you want a heroine to be because she’s strong, passionate, emotional, and she fights for her man. Lazarus was just perfect for her! I loved their banter and I loved that he was the one to make her smile and laugh. Their chemistry and the romance burned up the pages. Viola, Rathorne and the twins, Ever and Urban added fun to the book and I want more of them! This was definitely a girl power book with all the strong female characters. Viola was there as Cameo’s friend and the villains were powerful women as well. This would be a fun book to read with your girlfriends and discuss with some wine one night.

THE DARKEST PROMISE is one of my favorite books in the Lords of the Underworld series! I couldn’t put it down and I just loved everything about it!  I highly recommend this series for paranormal romance lovers. Gena Showalter is one of the Queens of paranormal romance and she always delivers a great love story.
