Donna review 4.5 stars

I had fun reading this Gargoyle story. Drum was a humorous reluctant hero with enough sex appeal to thaw even a stone Gargoyle’s heart. Ash made a good counterpoint to Drum and I enjoyed watching her learn about life and love. The crazy Wardens and Guardians around them provided enough humor to counteract the evil surrounding them. (Drum’s inner thoughts were my favorite though.) It was a fast paced and action packed read that kept me wanting more.

I really enjoyed this hot new release in Shayla Black’s Wicked Lovers Series. HOLDING ON TIGHTER is the twelfth book in the series and while some of the characters show up throughout the series, each book is a standalone that features different main characters. I always prefer to read a series in order, but you can read these books in any order and be fine. HOLDING ON TIGHTER is a scorching hot romance with some suspense. It took me a while to warm up to the heroine and Heath did a few things that annoyed me, but I understood why by the end of the book. Who doesn’t love a sexy Brit? Yum! I recommend this book for romantic suspense/ erotica lovers. When I’m in the mood for erotica romance that has a suspenseful storyline I reach for one of Shayla Black’s books. Her books always satisfy my addiction.

Heath jerked back to face her and leaned in so close their noses nearly touched. “Am I wrong?”
She refused to stroll down that memory lane. “Does it matter?”
“I daresay it does. But we’ll come back to that. If you were merely mistrustful of men, you would have waited until tomorrow and delivered a well-placed warning to keep me away from your sister.
Instead, you came after me. And when you found me with another woman, your temper flared. If I merely lived up to your expectations of being a womanizing prick, that shouldn’t make you angry at all, simply smug at being right. But you were livid. I doubt all that displeasure is on your sister’s behalf. In fact, I suspect, Ms. Quinn, that you have more than a passing interest in me. You were jealous.”
Apprehension raced through her veins. He was uncomfortably close to the truth. “You’re egotistical.”
“But I’m right.” He gave her a tight smile. “For the record, if I intended to disregard policy and pursue a woman in the office, I wouldn’t bother with your sister. Normally, she’d say yes. But working with him constantly buzzing around her, asking questions, and watching her every move had already dented her focus. “I have no intention of becoming your next conquest.”
“I never planned to pursue you.”
Jolie wondered why, then dismissed the question as she buttoned her red coat. “Perfect. There’s nothing left to say except I’m sorry for intruding on your evening. I hope we can forget this by morning.”
She had to get out of here. She’d overplayed her hand and needed to regroup, to think about how to treat him tomorrow. The last thing she wanted was for Heath Powell to decide she was a challenge he should convert into his next bed partner after all. Normally, the sexual urges of a man wouldn’t concern her unless she was interested. If so, she found a way to have him for a night or two, then ended it.
Something told her that nothing with Heath would ever be that simple.
But when Jolie turned her back on him and headed for the parking lot, he snaked an arm around her middle and pulled her against his big, steely body. “I never planned to pursue you . . . but I’ve changed my mind.”

Sunrise glistens on the meandering curves of the East River, the golden light of the August morning gilding the elegant hotels, mansions, and other prime real estate that surrounds verdant Central Park ninety-three stories below me. Lifting my head from my pillow, I sweep my bed-tossed tangle of blond hair away from my eyes, awed and breathless as I watch daybreak gently play over the city from my privileged vantage point far above it all.
I’ve been waking up to this view—in this bed on top of the world—for the past two weeks, yet I swear each morning is more spectacular than the last.
So are the nights.
As tempting as it may be to slip out from the silky sheets and savor the splendor of New York City’s waking skyline, my body is languid and flushed, my limbs too weak to move. All of my senses are still thrumming from an incredible predawn orgasm that’s only beginning to ebb.
I sigh in pleasure, and the firm, muscled arm that’s wrapped around me from behind flexes to pull me closer. Warm lips and a beard-roughened face nuzzles my nape with a kiss that sends wet heat licking through me, straight to my core.

I loved this book! Falling for the Highlander is the fourth book Lynsay Sands’ Scottish Highlander Series, but each book is a standalone so you do not need to read the previous books before picking this one up. Falling for the Highlander was a fun and sexy historical romance that kept me flipping the pages. I loved it! Lynsay Sands is one of my go to authors for great historical romances because she always delivers a great story with plenty of hot romance and some humor. Whether she is writing about Highlanders or Vampires I always fall in love with her heroes and get swept up in the worlds she creates. I highly recommend this series for historical romance lovers looking for some hot Highlander heroes. Go grab the series!

“Dougall,” Murine moaned in protest when he broke their kiss. She tried to shift against him again, but he held her still, trying to catch his breath and regain control of himself.
“Hush,” he murmured and turned sharply toward shore, intending to get them out of the water and set her away from him. He realized what a stupid idea that was when the supporting water fell away and she, probably afraid he would drop her, tightened her legs to keep herself up. Dougall stopped walking and dropped his head to her chest with a groan as her body slid against his again.
This had really been a bad idea, he acknowledged and took a couple of deep breaths, before saying, “I’m going to set ye down, lass.”
“But I don’ wan’ ye to,” she protested. “This feels good. I like it.”
The words made his determination falter. If it weren’t for the way she slurred her words, he might have taken her there and then. However, there was a definite slur to her words. Murine was in no state to think clearly on this. He had to think for both of them, and while he’d pretty much decided he was indeed going to marry Lady Murine Carmichael and bed her well and repeatedly, he would not have her waking in the morning and accusing him of treating her like the whore her brother had tried to turn her into.
“I like it too, lass, but—”
“Then why are ye stopping? Did I do something wrong? Tell me what to do and I’ll—” Her words died on a gasp as he suddenly dropped her into the water. It was a desperate bid to save them both. She was a tasty little bundle and Dougall could not fight himself and her too.
Leaving her to flounder back to her feet in the shallow water, he moved quickly back to shore, grabbed his tartan, laid it out, and knelt to begin pleating it with his back to the water. He didn’t do more than glance over his shoulder once to be sure she got out of the water safely, but then immediately turned his full attention forward again. He would give her time to dress and then escort her back to camp . . . and then he would not allow himself to be alone with her until they reached Buchanan and were safely married. He would not have her thinking he saw her through her brother’s eyes.

I loved this story. Emerson was someone I could relate to, and care about right away. Hunter? How can you not swoon over a bighearted, romantic and handsome man? He was the perfect person to help Emerson on her emotional journey. His family was so real, that I can only hope we hear more about them in later books. The writing was smooth and the story flowed nicely. I honestly couldn’t put it down, so I could see how things worked out. It wasn’t just a sexy little romance, it was a love story that warmed my heart.

(The setup is that heroine Emerson has just come back to her hometown of Millhaven after twelve years and is working as a physical therapist)

“I’ve got a patient for you, so I thought I’d pop over to see if you have an opening today,” Doc Sanders said.

Emerson thought of her schedule, complete with the tumbleweeds blowing through its wide- open spaces, and bit back the urge to laugh with both excitement and irony. “I’m sure I can fit someone in. What’s the injury?”

“Rotator cuff. X-rays and MRI are complete, and Dr. Norris, the orthopedist in Camden Valley, ordered PT. But the patient is local, so I figured if you could take him, it’d be a win-win.”

“Of course.” An odd sensation plucked up Emerson’s spine at the long-buried memory of a blue-eyed high school boy with his arm in a sling and a smile that could melt her like butter in a cast-iron skillet. “Um, my schedule is pretty flexible. What time did he want to come in?”

“Actually, he’s a little anxious to get started, so he came directly here from the ortho’s office . . .”

Doc Sanders turned toward the hallway leading to her waiting room, where a figure had appeared in the doorframe. Emerson blinked, trying to get her brain to reconcile the free-flowing confusion between the boy in her memory and the man standing in front of her. The gray-blue eyes were the same, although a tiny bit more weathered around the edges, and weirdly, the sling was also a match. But the person staring back at her was a man, with rough edges and sex appeal for days, full of hard angles and harder muscles under his jeans and T-shirt . . .

Hell, she’d only come back when her process of elimination had dead-ended in total despair. She was here for one thing, and one thing only. To bury herself in as much work as her body would allow.

Kimberly Kincaid writes contemporary romance that splits the difference between sexy and sweet. When she’s not sitting cross-legged in an ancient desk chair known as “The Pleather Bomber”, she can be found practicing obscene amounts of yoga, whipping up anything from enchiladas to éclairs in her kitchen, or curled up with her nose in a book.
