WILDE THING (Born to Be Wilde, Book 3) by Jannine Gallant

Publication Date: February 28, 2017

Romantic Suspense/ Contemporary Romance

Synopsis

IMG_7201The Wilde brothers are addicted to the rush of adventure. But one of them is about to learn no matter how often you look for danger, you don’t want danger finding you.

For extreme skier Tripp Wilde, pushing the limits is what he lives for. Unfortunately, the inherent risk takes a toll on his body. After an injury sidelines him, he ends up in the care of his little sister’s best friend, physical therapist Hannah Ryder—who has grown up in all the right ways since they last met.

Hannah doesn’t mix business with pleasure, even though she harbored a maddening crush on the irresistible Tripp years before. So, while Tripp tries every slick maneuver he knows to bed her, Hannah uses her own moves to keep the hotshot skier cooled off while trying to control her own growing desire for him.

After the pair witness what they think may be a murder on the slopes, along with the men responsible, no one believes their story. But when a series of unlikely accidents suggests they are being targeted, the two will have to trust in each other like never before if they are going to survive.

Donna 4 stars

I really enjoyed this fast paced, tense romantic suspense story. Tripp was an easy going and sexy hero that really stepped up to the challenge of the threat to Hannah, as well as the challenge of Hannah herself. Her jealousy kind of bugged me and I was surprised that he stuck with her….but I’m glad he did. No matter my cool feelings for her, this was a riveting story that I could not put down. It isn’t a super sexy story, but it is quite satisfying and a very fun read that keeps you guessing until the end.

FACE THE FLAMES (Sugarland Blue Novel) by Jo Davis

Publication Date: March 7, 2017

Genre: Romantic Suspense

Synopsis

IMG_7118The author of Bring the Heat returns to Sugarland, where a firefighter from Station Five will face the dangers in risking his heart…

A near-fatal accident left firefighter/paramedic Clay Montana with devastating injuries. Now, after a year-long recovery, Clay is focused on one thing: getting his body back to form, so he can return to the job he loves. And then a chance meeting with a fiery redhead changes his life…

Detective Melissa Ryan may be the new cop on the block, but she’s no stranger to Sugarland. It’s where she lived with her violent, criminal uncle—a man she needs to see behind bars. But when she meets Clay at a crime scene, the down-but-far-from-out firefighter makes her rethink her priorities.

Getting close to Clay is intoxicating, but Melissa must keep her wits about her if she’s to protect them from a man with deadly intentions…

~*~*~*~

Donna 4 stars

I love the Sugarland Blue series, who doesn’t like hot first responders, and Clay is no exception. He had a realistic quality that I found quite endearing and only made him sexier. Melissa was also very likeable, so that I cared what happened to her right off. The story was sexy and full of constant danger. My only complaint would be that some of the situations were rather improbable and a few times, unnecessary. That being said, it was a fun, quick read that has me looking forward to the next installment.

Donna 5 Stars

I could not put this book down! At first I wasn’t sure about Zoe and her ultra-self-esteem issues, but I’m glad I got past that. It was a heartfelt romance that showcased Joe’s romantic side, as well as his patience. It wasn’t a super sexy novel, but it was gratifying all the same. The Kelly family banter is always fun and showcases how close knit they are during the good times and the bad. The story didn’t hold as much danger as the others did, but it sure kept me riveted. I loved it.

Donna review 4.5 stars

I enjoyed this installment of the X-Ops series. I knew with Dreya being introduced in the last book, that this would be all about her, and it was. I liked the way you understood why she and Braden behaved the way they did. Well, some things seemed to jump forward, but for the most part, they acted as expected for their characters. They sure made a smoking hot couple that easily moved past sexual and in to a real partnership. The beginning was more about building their relationship and then moved in to non-stop action and danger. A real page-turner that sure didn’t end the way I expected. Good book.

Excerpt

“How do you know I wasn’t testing the security system?” Dreya asked, her lips curving into a coy smile.

Braden sat across from the beautiful thief in one of the burglary section’s interrogation rooms, working hard to keep from smiling back at her. Even though he knew her record backward and forward, he was still having a hell of a time maintaining a professional detachment. He was good in the interrogation room, but Dreya was better. She charmed, she flirted, and she controlled where she wanted the conversation to go. Braden had already been forced to toss Mick out of the room. His partner had come damn close to asking their suspect out on a date, even though she was sitting at the table wearing a pair of handcuffs.

Though Braden had to admit she made the cuffs look good. Even now, she was sitting at the table with her long, blond hair cascading around her shoulders, talking animatedly with her hands as if the heavy stainless steel cuffs were a fashion accessory. He wasn’t even sure when she’d gotten her hair out of the braid it had been in before, but he had the crazy urge to run his fingers through it. He resisted—barely. Dreya had been saying since they’d brought her in that this was all a big misunderstanding and that she could straighten this out if she could talk privately with the owner of the art piece they seemed to think she’d stolen. Like that was going to happen. Something told Braden that putting her in the same room with some rich playboy would be an incredibly bad idea. All she had to do was bat those hazel-green eyes at him a few times and tousle her hair with her fingers, and the guy would agree with anything she said. Hell, the guy would probably give her the silly blue balloon dog thing sitting on the table between them as a gift.

“If we’re going to talk about security systems, Dreya, let’s start with how you managed to climb the wall of that apartment on the south side of M Street. Because I gotta tell you, that was damn impressive.”

He expected her to deny it had been her—or beam with pride at the compliment—but her eyes widened in shock. For the first time that night, there was fear on her face.

“You saw that?” She darted a nervous glance at the one-way glass mirror to her left, the one Mick was standing behind.

He nodded. “Sure did. In fact, we have it all on video. The climb, the walk across the cable, the jump you made to the balcony.”

On the other side of the table, her face went pale. Shit, was she starting to hyperventilate?

“How many people have seen the video?” she demanded.

Braden frowned. Why the hell was a second-story thief worried about how many cops had seen her display her talents? That made no sense.

“Just my partner and me,” he assured her. “But while the video is amazing, it doesn’t explain how you were able to scale that wall. Were you using something on your hands to get a grip? I searched your bag but didn’t find anything.”

Dreya swallowed hard. In all of the previous occasions he’d questioned her, she’d been confident and posed, but suddenly it was like she’d been hit by lightning. She seemed off balance…lost.

“You can’t let anyone else see the video,” she said.

He shrugged. “That’s not really up to me.”

She stared at her cuffed wrists, her shoulders slumping in a defeat he hadn’t seen coming. “What if I confess?”

She said it so softly he wasn’t sure he’d heard her correctly. “What?”

Dreya lifted her head to look at him, that usual glimmer missing from her eyes now. “If I confess right now, will you destroy the video?”

Braden hoped to hell his mouth wasn’t hanging open. Being interrogated by the cops could make people say strange stuff, but Dreya had to know that even with the evidence they had on her, a woman with her background and clean record could likely get a case like this whittled down from the standard five to seven to less than two years. Why would she agree to a written confession? What the hell was on that video she was so terrified of letting anyone see?

He knew he needed to be careful, but right then it was hard to think of Dreya as the hardened criminal he’d always believed. He was smart enough to know she wasn’t a saint, but there was something going on here. She was so terrified she was on the verge of tears.

The sudden aura of vulnerability had his heart beating hard and fast. The urge to protect her from whatever was freaking her out was impossible to ignore. Part of the reason he’d become a cop was to help people in trouble, and Dreya definitely seemed to be in trouble.

DESIRE RUNS DEEP

Somewhere off the coast of Greece, a king’s ransom in gold, emeralds, and silver coins lies waiting at the bottom of the sea. Finding this ancient treasure would be a dream come true for marine archeologist Calista West. But that’s not why she’s here. She didn’t climb aboard Jonah Cutter’s magnificent yacht seeking fortune or fame. She’s come for revenge—against the sexiest, most seductive, modern-day pirate she’s ever encountered…

Like his famous half brothers, Jonah is a master of salvaging ships—and driving women mad with his movie-star looks and raw animal magnetism. Tall, dark, and devastating, he manages to make Callie forget her mission. Every moment they share under the hot Mediterranean sun is an erotically-charged adventure neither can resist. But when Callie discovers what he’s really after—the lost city of Atlantis—is it too late to change the course of her heart…or go all in with the lover of her dreams?

~*~*~*~

img_6925

This is quite the underwater rollercoaster of a story full of bad guys, natural disasters, and emotional upheaval. Jonah is sexy and hot…no surprise there, but it took me a while to like Callie. Her initial bitchiness made me wonder about his intelligence in pursuing her. Of course, it led to some sizzling sex as well as her change of attitude. All in all, a fast and exciting read that makes me anxious to read the next one.

1. Your novels span many genres. Do you have a favorite?
It depends where I am in the process. Usually my favorite is the one that I just finished. Or the book I’m writing that’s going exceptionally well-that one will be my favorite that day. I love writing Chapter One, and I love writing The End. So the answer is- every day I have a different favorite. Lol

2. It’s been a few years since we’ve visited Cutter Cay, are you glad to be back? And what inspired you to return?
Cutter Cay was always intended to be six books. (or as I like to say – a 6 book trilogy lol) Undertow, Riptide, Vortex, Stormchaser. Hurricane and finally Whirlpool (the redhead everyone has been waiting for.)

3. All writers put a little bit of themselves in their stories or characters, is there a certain hero or heroine that could be your alter-ego?
I like to think that my heroines get a little of my snark, and a pinch of my kick butt personality, it would be hard to make them otherwise, but because of each character’s backstory they aren’t me. (which is probably a Good Thing lol)

4. With your two Cutter Cay Series books being published so close together, I’m wondering if you have something new coming our way.
Whirlpool Cutter Cay book #6 comes out in July, and then at the end of 2017 another Fallen Agents Of T-FLAC Absolute book (Following Absolute Doubt)

5. What is your favorite part of being a novelist?
Everything. I love the process of writing, enjoy plotting the book, love the marketing aspect and especially love interacting with readers and new authors on Facebook.

UNEXPECTEDLY HERS (Sterling Canyon Book 3) by Jamie Beck

Publication Date: February 21, 2017

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Synopsis

img_6783By day, bashful wallflower Emma Duffy works at her family’s bed-and-breakfast. By night, she secretly pens erotic romance hot enough to melt the snow in their cozy Rockies town.

But Emma’s real life is about to heat up when her mother books the entire inn to a professional snowboarder, hoping the publicity will put them on the map. In a karmic twist of fate, that guest is Wyatt Lawson, the man with whom Emma had shared the secret one-night stand that became the inspiration for her novel and its dreamy hero. Worse, a film crew is documenting his comeback just as her debut is about to hit the shelves. Emma’s only saving grace is that Wyatt doesn’t remember her—and hopefully he never will.

When Wyatt arrives in Sterling Canyon for several weeks of intense training, the last tumble he expects to take is falling for a girl, especially one as shy as Emma. Unlike groupies with their hidden agendas, she isn’t using him—or so he believes…until the film crew uncovers Emma’s pen name and steamy novel.

Wyatt’s comeback run can withstand a fall or two, but can his heart recover from this crash and burn?

~*~*~*~

Donna 4 stars

This romance revolved around two people, so caught up in trying to take care of others that they forgot to nurture their own happiness. It’s not a light fun romance, but rather Emma and Wyatt’s journey to find themselves and break free of their self-perceived obligations. It’s well written and keeps you reading and wondering until the end. I liked it.

HARD TO HANDLE: A Beauty and Beast Novel (Gargoyles Series) by Christine Warren

Publication Date: February 7, 2017

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Synopsis

img_6544A SEDUCTION STRONGER THAN STONE

The only male among four sisters, Michael Drummond is no stranger to women’s strength and formidable will. His Dublin pub, the Skin & Bones, is his refuge, a reassuringly masculine retreat. Until a fierce woman warrior from another realm bursts into his life, bringing with her a battle between good and evil…and an explosive dose of desire.

The first and only of her kind, Ash is a lone female gargoyle, a creature destined to protect mankind from Demons determined to unleash their darkest forces. But her arrival on Earth is more confusing than she expected: her bone-deep instinct to do battle is matched only by her untamed attraction to stubborn, stalwart Drum. If they manage to keep the world safe, can they turn the passion crackling between them into a love that will withstand the test of time?

~*~*~*~

Donna review 4.5 stars

I had fun reading this Gargoyle story. Drum was a humorous reluctant hero with enough sex appeal to thaw even a stone Gargoyle’s heart. Ash made a good counterpoint to Drum and I enjoyed watching her learn about life and love. The crazy Wardens and Guardians around them provided enough humor to counteract the evil surrounding them. (Drum’s inner thoughts were my favorite though.) It was a fast paced and action packed read that kept me wanting more.

I loved this story. Emerson was someone I could relate to, and care about right away. Hunter? How can you not swoon over a bighearted, romantic and handsome man? He was the perfect person to help Emerson on her emotional journey. His family was so real, that I can only hope we hear more about them in later books. The writing was smooth and the story flowed nicely. I honestly couldn’t put it down, so I could see how things worked out. It wasn’t just a sexy little romance, it was a love story that warmed my heart.

Excerpt

(The setup is that heroine Emerson has just come back to her hometown of Millhaven after twelve years and is working as a physical therapist)

“I’ve got a patient for you, so I thought I’d pop over to see if you have an opening today,” Doc Sanders said.

Emerson thought of her schedule, complete with the tumbleweeds blowing through its wide- open spaces, and bit back the urge to laugh with both excitement and irony. “I’m sure I can fit someone in. What’s the injury?”

“Rotator cuff. X-rays and MRI are complete, and Dr. Norris, the orthopedist in Camden Valley, ordered PT. But the patient is local, so I figured if you could take him, it’d be a win-win.”

“Of course.” An odd sensation plucked up Emerson’s spine at the long-buried memory of a blue-eyed high school boy with his arm in a sling and a smile that could melt her like butter in a cast-iron skillet. “Um, my schedule is pretty flexible. What time did he want to come in?”

“Actually, he’s a little anxious to get started, so he came directly here from the ortho’s office . . .”

Doc Sanders turned toward the hallway leading to her waiting room, where a figure had appeared in the doorframe. Emerson blinked, trying to get her brain to reconcile the free-flowing confusion between the boy in her memory and the man standing in front of her. The gray-blue eyes were the same, although a tiny bit more weathered around the edges, and weirdly, the sling was also a match. But the person staring back at her was a man, with rough edges and sex appeal for days, full of hard angles and harder muscles under his jeans and T-shirt . . .

Hunter Cross.

Emerson stood with her feet anchored to the linoleum, unable to move or speak or even breathe. For the smallest scrap of a second, she tumbled back in time, her heart pounding so hard beneath her crisp white button-down that surely the traitorous thing would jump right out of her chest.

A blanket of stars littering the August sky . . . the warm weight of Hunter’s varsity jacket wrapped around her shoulders . . . the warmer fit of his mouth on hers as the breeze carried his whispers, full of hope . . . “Don’t go to New York. Stay with me, Em. Marry me and stay here in Millhaven where we’ll always have this, just you and me . . .”

“Emerson? What . . . what the hell are you doing here?”

The deeper, definitely more rugged-around-the-edges version of his voice tipped the scales of her realization all the way into the present. She needed to say something, she knew, she knew, but her mouth had gone so dry that she’d have better luck rocketing to the moon in a paper airplane right now.

“I work here,” Emerson finally managed, the truth of the words—of what they meant—delivering her back to reality with a hard snap. She hadn’t returned to Millhaven for a jaunt down memory lane. Hell, she’d only come back when her process of elimination had dead-ended in total despair. She was here for one thing, and one thing only. To bury herself in as much work as her body would allow.

Even if her first client probably hated her guts.

INTO THE FIRESTORM (BOSS, Inc.) by Kat Martin

Publication Date: January 31, 2017

Genre: Romantic Suspense

Synopsis

img_6368At Brodie Operations Security Service, Inc., following your instincts is company policy . . .

M. Cassidy—Luke Brodie had heard the name before, some novice bounty hunter working Seattle, catching tricky skips with more success than a newcomer should expect. But the dark curls, sparkly top, and impressive cleavage were not what Brodie had pictured.

Emma Cassidy is tough and smart and sexy as hell. She’s also popping up a step ahead of him every time he’s close to the capture he wants most . . . and there’s no room for learning on the trail of this monster.

Emma has idolized Luke Brodie, the bounty hunter who can bring anyone in. The big man in the soft shoes, with a face like a fallen angel and a reputation for breaking hearts. Watching him in action is intoxicating. But her fight with Rudy Vance is fiercely personal. If he gets too close, Brodie will find out just how ferocious she can be . . .

Donna 4 stars

I enjoyed this fast-paced detective novel, with their dangerous search following the clues and dead bodies. The romance was spicy and it flowed well with the story. Emma and Luke, both bounty hunters, made a good couple and were likeable from the start. I did want to smack Luke upside the head a few times, but he was acting in character, and part of the storyline. A fun pulse-pumping story.
