Book 8 in the Pride series introduces Toni and her huge strange family of jackals and although at first it seemed a bit too hectic, it soon fell into a steady rhythm. That had to do with Ricky, one of the Reed boys that I have grown to love due to his quiet patience. Don’t get me wrong, he’s still a Reed and full of the sarcastic humor that keeps you chuckling but he knows what he wants and is willing to quietly worm his way into her life. While it still hit all the marks, it isn’t as romantic as some of the others due to the story. The chaos and snarky humor was fast paced and full of all the beloved characters that are the hallmark of this series. This was the third time I’ve read the book and it won’t be the last.

IMG_0032 “Are you my daddy?”
Ricky Lee Reed, originally of Smithtown, Tennessee, and only replanted to New York City a few years back, gawked at the child who’d asked him the question for a mere moment before he turned his attention to the adult female who held the child.
He’d admit it wasn’t a question he expected to get, you know, ever. For a bunch of reasons, too, but mostly because he didn’t know this woman. He wasn’t one of those guys who nailed so many females he forgot their faces or names. So then . . . why was this child asking him this question? And even stranger, why was the female raising her brows and suddenly asking, “Well . . . are you?”
Wait. Wouldn’t she know? Shouldn’t she? Good Lord, this city. Maybe he’d never get used to living here. Ever. It was surprisingly safer than life in Smithtown, Tennessee, but it  as weirder. Maybe because there were way more full-humans in Manhattan—he’d found full-humans were much stranger than shifters—and Smithtown was filled with shifters. Wolves, mostly. A few bears on the outskirts too old and big for the Pack to bother trying to make move. But all those wolves in one place with enough ’shine to take down the Russian army meant there was a lot more danger around those hills of his hometown than there ever could be on the mean streets of this city. No matter what the movies said. And yet life in Manhattan could be so strange in comparison to what he’d left behind.
He’d only come over to this bench inside the giant Sports Center, home to all of New York’s shifter-run sports teams, so he could chat with the pretty female sitting there. Perhaps get her number. She was real cute, probably because of all that curly hair. Most of the females in his Pack had straight hair, but this one had blondish-brown hair with lots of black streaks that was just kind of a curly mess. Just these wild, soft curls that nearly covered her eyes and reached to her shoulders. Yeah. He liked her hair. And the fact that she was a jackal didn’t mean much to him. She was still canine, like him, and he wasn’t looking for his mate. Just a few dates, maybe a little fun . . .
Fun. Not fatherhood.
“No,” he finally told them both. “I’m not your daddy.”
The female hugged the boy on her lap and kissed his forehead. “Sorry, Denny. Maybe we’ll find your daddy someday.”
Now Southern politeness would dictate that Ricky Lee should just leave this whole thing alone. Not ask questions, not suggest that maybe she should keep better track of her past lovers. But he just couldn’t bring himself to walk away. He was too curious.
She glanced at him. “Oh . . . are you still here?”
Before he could ask why he couldn’t keep sitting on this bench, without being glared at, several more children walked up to the female. A teenager with her big brown eyes glued to her cell phone, a young boy, and a toddler female holding the boy’s hand. They surrounded the She-jackal, the toddler trying to push the boy Denny aside so she could take his place on their mother’s lap.
That sure was a lot of pups for such a young female.
“Who are you talking to?” the jackal demanded of the teenager. Wait. Was she old enough to have a teenager?
“No one.”
“That’s a lot of typing for no one.”
Sighing dramatically as only teenagers managed to do, the girl asked, “Do we have to hang around here much longer?”
“I’m not leaving until I get what I want,” the eldest boy said with a lot of confidence for what looked to be only a nine- or ten-year-old. “So suck it up already.”
“I’ve got shit to do, you little brat.”
“More toe shoes to buy? More positions to contort your body into until you hit thirty or so and have to resign yourself to the fact your career is over? If you want to call it a career.”
The teenager almost had her hands around her brother’s throat—and he knew they were all siblings, no one else could annoy a body like a sibling—when the She-jackal snapped, “Leave him alone!”
“You always protect him.”
“Perhaps that’s because I actually have talent bestowed upon me by the gods, which is better than mere genetics that allowed my legs to grow impossibly long.”
“I hate you,” the teenager hissed at her brother.
“I live for hatred,” the boy replied. “It rejuvenates my creative fire.” It was a really strange thing for a young boy to say. Really strange. But even stranger was when he glanced over at Ricky and abruptly asked, “Are you our daddy?”
And before Ricky could say in no uncertain terms, “Absolutely not,” the doors that led to the main training rink burst open and Ricky’s hockey-playing brother, Reece Lee, flew through them.
Ricky instinctively grabbed the child in the most danger— the toddler—and moved. The She-jackal still had the boy on her lap, so she quickly stood, her arms tight around him. But she also jumped to the side, using her body to shove the older boy and his teenage sister away.
As an impromptu team, they seemed to have perfect timing as Ricky’s younger brother rammed into the wooden bench they’d been sitting on, completely destroying it in the process. Ricky didn’t bother to rush to Reece Lee’s help, though. He knew better. A few seconds later, a seven-one, nearly four hundred- pound hybrid barreled through those rink doors and stalked over to Reece.
The hybrid grabbed Reece by his training jersey and lifted him up, only to slam him back down again. Reece bared his fangs and started to fight back, claws out. It wasn’t a pretty fight, like one of those choreographed ones you’d see in an action movie. Instead it was more like watching a couple of pit bulls go at it in someone’s yard.
“Are you just going to stand there?” the She-jackal demanded, her glare on Ricky.
“That was my plan.”
“But I saw you with the smaller one earlier,” she said over the snarling, growling, and roaring. “You know him.”
“Barely.”
Her eyes narrowed. “You’re brothers, aren’t you?”
“According to my momma, but I still want DNA tests to prove it.”
The older boy tried to shoot past the She-jackal toward the fight, but the teenager grabbed the back of his T-shirt and held on.
“Are you insane?” the teenager demanded of her brother.
“Toni promised me I’d get to meet him!”
“I promised I’d try,” the She-jackal shot back. Huh. The kid called her “Toni.” Not “Mom” or “Mommy.” Then it hit Ricky . . . these weren’t her kids. At least not all of them. They were her brothers and sisters.
The teenager caught hold of her younger brother by the back of his neck, the extra flesh every canine predator child had there giving her a better collar than some strip of leather. “Toni’s not about to let you get in the middle of a predator fight.”
“But—”
“I keep telling you, Kyle,” the She-jackal reminded him, “we’re scavengers. Wait until the vultures arrive. Then you can go over and maybe get a little lunch.”
When Ricky raised a brow, the She-jackal only smirked and gave a small shrug.
Deciding not to ask too many questions, Ricky focused on his brother and the hybrid—who was a damn talented hockey player—that had Reece on his back, big bear-lion hand around the wolf’s throat.
Reece was putting up a good fight, though. Desperately trying to get the crazed hybrid off him. Too bad it wasn’t working.
After landing a few blows to the hybrid’s face, Reece glared at Ricky. “You going to do somethin’?” he squeaked out.
“Didn’t you tell me yesterday to stay out of your business?” Ricky asked, grinning.
“Son of a—”
“Hey,” Ricky cut in. “There are pups here. Gotta watch your mouth.”
The She-jackal sighed. “Seriously?” she demanded. “I mean . . . seriously?”
“What?”
“He’s getting the holy hell beaten out of him by a man whose hair just suddenly grew.”
“That’s his mighty mane. Only comes out when he’s really mad.”
“And you’re comfortable with him basically pummeling your brother?” Ricky thought on that, but he must have taken too long to answer because the She-jackal handed off the boy in her arms to the teenager.
“It’s like I have to take care of everything,” she snapped at Ricky before walking around to the two fighting males and yelled over the roaring, “Excuse me, Mister . . . uh . . .” She glanced back at the oldest boy, Kyle.
“Novikov,” Kyle prompted.
“Right. Mr. Novikov? Mr. Novikov!” The hybrid stopped, his hand still gripping Reece’s throat, his massive body still pinning the wolf to the ground. Slowly, he looked up at the jackal, mane nearly covering glowering blue eyes.
“Hi.” She pressed her hand to her chest. “I’m Antonella Jean-Louis Parker. Toni for short. That’s Toni with an ‘i,’ not a ‘y.’ Anyway, Ulrich Van Holtz may have mentioned that I was going to stop by today. And this is Kyle.” She snapped her fingers and the boy quickly moved to her side. “Kyle really wants your autograph and although I’m sorry to interrupt your . . .wolf-pummeling, I am on a bit of a schedule.” She tapped the sturdy-looking diving watch on her wrist. “So is there any way we could speed this up? Maybe you could assault the wolf later? Kyle would really appreciate it.”
The boy grinned. “I would!”
The hybrid studied the jackal for several long seconds before he nodded. “Schedules, I understand.” Then he looked down at Reece and roared in his face, “Schedules! Learn the concept!”
He released his grip on Reece and got to his mighty big feet. By the time Novikov stood, his mane had lessened considerably, something the She-jackal noticed, her eyes narrowing a bit. The hybrid faced her, his back now to Reece. That’s when he mule-kicked him, sending Ricky’s brother flying until he slammed into one of the many pillars around the building.
Ricky cringed. He sure bet that hurt.
“What do you want me to sign?”
“Get the shirt, Kyle.” The boy took off his backpack and quickly dug out a hockey jersey and a permanent marker. Based on the jersey’s colors it looked like it was from the Washington shifter hockey team. A team that the hybrid had once belonged to. That guy had belonged to a lot of teams, and to this day many of his past teammates still hated him.
The boy handed over the shirt and marker to the hybrid. As Novikov signed, he asked the boy, “So do you play hockey?”
“No, sir.”
“Really? How come?”
“Because I plan to use my brilliance for something real and important, not something petty like sports.”
The She-jackal cringed, her head dropping while Novikov’s head snapped up.
“Sorry?”
“See, what I like about what you do,” the boy explained, his hands accenting each word, his voice intense, “is the raw rage and violence. I can use that in my work. And while you’ll probably be forgotten soon after you retire, which is the way of you athletic types whose happiest years are usually when you’re in high school”—he glanced back at his teenage sister and she rewarded him with the one-finger salute—“my legacy will live on for centuries. People will study my work, copy it. My work will start a new art movement, a new wave of creativity born out of blood and violence and rage. And you . . . you, Mr. Novikov, will be my David.”
“David?”
“Like Michelangelo’s David? But instead my piece will be called Jean-Louis Parker’s Novikov, and it will be the greatest art anyone has ever seen. And you . . . you, Mr. Novikov, will be my muse.”
The hybrid blinked and then finally asked exactly what Ricky was thinking. “How old are you?”
“Eleven. But I don’t allow my age to hold me back from my future. Only those weak of mind do that.”
Novikov sighed and handed the signed shirt back to the boy. “I wish I could say you disgust me, but I understand you more than you’ll ever realize, kid. So go forth and kick ass.”
“I will. Thank you!”
He nodded at the boy, then the jackal. “Ma’am,” he said before he started back toward the rink.
But that’s when the kid threw out, “And is there a chance I can sketch you naked?”
Novikov stopped walking, his entire body jerking a bit. The She-jackal’s eyes popped open wide at the child’s question, her hand slapping across his mouth and yanking him against her body as Novikov faced them.
“He’s just kidding,” she quickly said before Novikov could ask. “He’s just kidding.”
The boy struggled against the jackal, his muffled words sounding like, “No, I’m not!” But the jackal didn’t release her grip, merely smiled. “And thanks for the autograph.”
Novikov nodded, grunted, and walked back to the rink, the big doors slamming behind him.
That’s when she released the boy, and using the hand not still holding the youngest brother, spun Kyle around so he faced her.
“Have you lost your mind?”
“It was just a question. He should feel privileged. The greatest artist ever known found his physique worthy of my precious attention. He should be bowing at my feet for such an honor.”
The She-jackal stared at him for several seconds before announcing, “You’re an idiot. And if you ever do that again, or I find out from someone else that you did it again, I’m going to kick your ass from here all the way back to Washington.”
“Yeah, but—”
“Do you understand me?”
“As a matter of fact, I don’t—”
She grabbed the boy by the back of his neck and yanked him up with one hand. He dangled a good four feet off the ground, his gaze locked with the She-jackal’s. “Do you understand, Kyle?” she asked again.
“Yes, ma’am.”
“Good.”
She released him and shoved the signed shirt back into his hands once he landed on firm ground.
The teenager sighed. “Can we just go already?”
“We have to see Ric first. Here. Take Dennis.”
The jackal handed off the youngest boy before turning to stare at Ricky. He gazed back. Smiled.
After a few moments of that, she asked, “Are you going to give her back to me?”
That’s when Ricky realized he still held the little pup he’d pulled out of the way of Novikov’s rage.
“Oh. Sorry about that.” Ricky handed the pup over. She’d fallen asleep with her head on his shoulder, her fist shoved in her mouth. She whined a little as the transfer was made, but settled back to sleep once the jackal had her.
“Thank you,” the She-jackal said, and gave him a small smile.
It was the smile that did it, more than the politeness.
“You know,” Ricky began, “if you’re not busy tonight—”
Pointing at Ricky with her cell phone, the teen asked, “Are you our daddy?”
Disgusted, Ricky stated to the jackal, “Woman, there has to be an easier way for you to get rid of a man.”
“Perhaps, but I’ve found that there’s nothing quicker. “She winked at him, then gestured behind him with her chin. “And you may want to check on your brother—he’s still bleeding.”
“Yeah. I think Novikov nicked an artery . . . again.”
She stopped, glanced back at him. But with a little snortlaugh, she walked off without another word.

From the award-winning author of You Really Got Me comes the next romance in her red-hot Rock Star Romance series, about a rocker who lives for his music—and loves with all his heart.

Derek Valencia finally has the success he’s worked so hard for. His band is touring its debut album and great reviews are rolling in. But when pictures of him tossing naked groupies off a balcony go viral, it’s damage-control time. He’s assigned a “babysitter” whose sole job is to keep him out of trouble.

Violet Davis swore she’d never work in the music industry again, but being a minder for a rock star will earn her enough to pay off the mortgage on her wildflower farm. And for a girl brought up in the foster care system, owning her own home means more to her than anything.

Though at first the two bang heads, the rocker and the farm girl soon grow close and realize that they make sweet music together. But can a girl who craves the stability of life on a farm really make it work with a man whose life is spent on the road with his band?

I adored this book! I loved Derek even more than I loved Slater and I really loved Slater in the first book. Derek and Violet were perfect for each other. I devoured their story. I Want You To Want Me was the perfect mix of emotional, fun and hot romance. It’s a rock star romance with a HEA ending. This is the second book in Erika Kelly’s Rock Star Romance Series, but each book can be read as a standalone. They each feature a band mate. I recommend both books. They’re beautiful love stories that will stick with you long after you close the books. Erika Kelly is an author to watch and I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next.

The ride of her life . . .

Once upon a time, Carissa Teodoro believed in happy endings. Money, marriage, motherhood: everything came easy—until she woke up to the ugly truth about her Prince Charming. Now a struggling, single mom and stranded by a flat tire, Carissa’s pondering her mistakes when a vaguely familiar knight rides to her rescue on a ton of horsepower.

Climb on and hold tight . . .

In high school, Carson Steele was a bad boy loner who put Carissa on a pedestal where she stayed far beyond his reach. Today, he’s the hard-bodied biker known only as Joker, and from the way Carissa’s acting, it’s clear she’s falling fast. While catching her is irresistible, knowing what to do with her is a different story. A good girl like Carissa is the least likely fit with the Chaos Motorcycle Club. Too bad holding back is so damned hard. Now, as Joker’s secrets are revealed and an outside threat endangers the club, Joker must decide whether to ride steady with Carissa—or ride away forever . . .

IMG_0477

I LOVED this book! Loved it! Ride Steady is book 3 in Kristen Ashley’s Chaos Series. Each book can be read as a standalone but if you’d like to read them in order I’d actually start with Motorcycle Man which is the last book in the Dream Man Series and then read the Chaos Series. Ride Steady is my new favorite Kristen Ashley book. I love her writing style and her books always make me feel great. They are books I pick up if I need an escape and want a book I know I’m going to enjoy and have fun reading. Ride Steady is Joker’s book and Kristen Ashley made me fall in love with him. She really blew me away with this new book. It’s a beautiful love story and I experienced a full range of emotions reading it. I can’t say enough good things about it. It has everything I look for in a great love story. Grab it, then devour it and fall in love with Joker! High’s book, Walk Through Fire, is next and I can’t wait to get my hands on it.

“What now?” he clipped, planting his hands on his hips.
I watched him do this.
His knuckles were all scabbed. But his fingers were long, not graceful, but handsome. They were a working man’s hands. They’d be rough. I could even see grease stains around the nail beds.
Something about that caused something to happen inside me.
My focus shifted from his hands to his crotch. His jeans were faded. The area around his crotch more faded.
Up I went to a black belt with silver rivets in it that had seen some wear, the length beyond the clasp dangling from a belt loop to the side in a supple way, the leather not close to stiff.
Up his flat belly to his wide chest and broad shoulders and bulging arms.
And up to his long black hair that looked thick, messy, had a lot of wave and brushed his shoulders. His beard wasn’t bushy, it was trimmed, but it was about two days away from being unkempt.
He was tall.
He was annoyed.
I felt the latter because he was the kind of man whose mood altered a room and I understood this because I was right then experiencing it. But I also knew it wasn’t just that or that we were the only ones in the room and having the conversation that was making him annoyed so of course I’d be feeling it.
It was him. He had that kind of power behind his personality.
I shifted my eyes to his.
Steel. A strange flat color that seemed impenetrable.
And suddenly I had a new dream. One that didn’t involve motherhood, cookies, doing laundry, and being a soccer mom.
One that centered around penetrating the impenetrable.
“So? What?” he prompted irately.
At his words, I flew across the room.
He had the chance to go back on a boot but that was all he had before my body slammed into his, my hands went to either side of his head and I lifted up on tiptoe as I yanked him down.
Then I pressed my lips hard against his.
A breath later, something strange happened.
Strange and wondrous.
His arms closed around me, and if I could think of anything, I’d worry about the state of my ribs.
But I couldn’t think of anything because his tongue spiked into my mouth and my world changed.
My entire world.
I didn’t have a dead sister.
I didn’t have a dead mother.
I didn’t have a lonely father looking after his mother, who was addled with Alzheimer’s disease.
I didn’t have an ex‑husband, who I once loved who I thought would cherish and protect me and help me build my dream, but now was making my life a misery and trying to take my son away from me.
I had this.
All of it. All the biker named Joker gave me by holding me so tight it was a pain that hurt so good and who was invading my mouth with his tongue in a way that stated clearly he could do it for a lifetime and never get enough.
My hands left his head so I could curve my arms around his shoulders as I pressed closer.
In return, one of his hands slid up my spine. He pulled out my ponytail holder and drove his fingers into my hair, cupping the back of my head, tilting it one way while he slanted his the other. He deepened the kiss in an intoxicating way while his other hand glided down and cupped one cheek of my behind.
That felt good.
He shuffled me back.
I went with him.
We kept kissing.
Then he turned quickly and we were falling.
Then he turned quickly and we were falling.
He landed on his back on the bed. I landed on him but barely had the opportunity to experience the dizzying beauty of the long length of his hard frame under mine before I was given more beauty when he rolled me and I had the weight of his hard frame pressing mine into the bed.
His hand left my bottom and went up, fingers yanking at my navy LeLane’s polo shirt, pulling it from my khakis, and then I had its heat, skin against skin.
I was right.
His hands were rough.

Kristen Ashley grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana, and has lived in Denver, Colorado, and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.

Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multigenerational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland, and Kristen grew up listening to the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon, and Whitesnake. Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music and love was a good way to grow up. And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

Release Blitz, Review & Giveaway: HARD TO LET GO (Hard Ink Series, Book 4) by Laura Kaye

HARD TO LET GO (Hard Ink Series, Book 4) by Laura Kaye

Publication Date: June 30, 2015

Hard to Let Go - cover

Kindle | Amazon PBK | B&N | Kobo | iBooks

Beckett Murda hates to dwell on the past. But his investigation into the ambush that killed half his Special Forces team and ended his Army career gives him little choice. Just when his team learns how powerful their enemies are, hard-ass Beckett encounters his biggest complication yet—a seductive, feisty Katherine Rixey.

A tough, stubborn prosecutor, Kat visits her brothers’ Hard Ink Tattoo shop following a bad break-up—and finds herself staring down the barrel of a stranger’s gun. Beckett is hard-bodied and sexy as hell, but he’s also the most infuriating man ever. Worse, Kat’s brothers are at war with the criminals her office is investigating. When Kat joins the fight, she lands straight in Beckett’s sights . . . and in his arms. Not to mention their enemies’ crosshairs.

Now Beckett and Kat must set aside their differences to work together, because the only thing sweeter than justice is finding love and never letting go.

I loved this installment in the Hard Ink Series! I wasn’t sure how Beckett’s story would turn out, but wow, it surpassed my expectations. The ongoing mystery and danger to the Hard Ink group was amplified by other forces impacting Kat and Beckett so that the story exploded page by page. The Hard Ink group is a cohesive, wise-cracking team that makes you laugh one minute and melts your heart the next. I grew to love them throughout the series but this book ratcheted it up to a whole new level. Kate and Beckett made such a perfect pair and I loved how their sexy and touching journey played out amid all the chaos. The writing was smooth, scorching hot and oh so heart rendering that I could not put it down. Literally. I read it through in one sitting because I knew I would not sleep until it was done. The best part is that the ending opened the door to so many possibilities for future books and I can’t wait to read them all.

Taking a deep breath, Beckett knocked on the door.

No answer.

He turned the knob, and the door opened.

“Go away,” came a strained voice.

Beckett poked his head through the opening. Kat sat in a ball in the corner, her legs pulled up to her chest, her arms hugging herself tight.

“Aw, Jesus, Beckett. Really?” Her face was splotchy and her eyes watery, though he didn’t see any tears.

Ten-to-one she was going through some adrenaline letdown right now, too. Which no doubt made it all worse. That shit could fuck you up even when you were used to how it left you feeling drained and shaky, by how all the stress you’d suppressed during the height of the crisis boomeranged twice over after the fact.

He came into the room, closed the door, and turned the lock for good measure. And then he crossed to Kat, scooped his arms under her knees and behind her back and lifted her up against him.

She smacked his chest. “Put me down.”

“No.” He moved to the edge of the bed.

“I don’t need this right now, Beckett. Put me down.”

“Yes, you do,” he said, sitting on the edge of the mattress. He pulled her face in against his throat and smoothed her hair back from her cheek. She trembled against him, just the littlest bit, her skin hot to the touch. He pressed a kiss to her forehead and hugged her tighter. “You did good, kid.”

Every one of her muscles went tight. Her hand fisted in his shirt. And her breath caught as she buried her face against his neck and shoulder.

Then Kat burst out crying.

And it was like being torn apart and put back together, all at once. He hated her pain, but he adored that she wasn’t hiding herself from him, and that she was letting him be there for her.

He didn’t shush her, or try to talk her down, or encourage her to dry her eyes. To be sure, her tears were like daggers in his heart—they hurt like fucking hell. But the only way she was going to feel better was to let this shit out. Ironic realization for him—he did actually see that. But just because you could see what was good for others didn’t mean you had the first goddamned idea how to apply those principles in your own life. And that was a problem for another time anyway.

What mattered right now was Kat. What mattered … was Kat.

Review: Wicked Ride (Realm Enforcers Book 1) by Rebecca Zanetti

Wicked Ride (Realm Enforcers Book 1) by Rebecca Zanetti

Publication Date: June 23, 2015

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Alexandra Monzelle is a hard-fighting, heat-packing Seattle vice cop, and she’s not much interested in being protected. Her short skirt and sex-kitten heels are tools to lure her suspects into talking about the deadly new drug hitting the streets. She can take care of herself and then some. Unfortunately, she can’t seem to get that through to Kellach Dunne.

Kellach is a fresh import from Dublin, and he’s landed at the heart of a vicious motorcycle club that deals in guns, narcotics, and mayhem. He’s all male, all rough power—and all interference in her damn investigation. Maybe he’s one of the good guys. Maybe not. Lex knows an affair with an immortal like him would risk everything. No matter how delicious he looks…

A great spin-off series from the Dark Protectors. I mean what’s better than a combination of motorcycle clubs and the paranormal? Kellach is a strong alpha witch who has definitely met his match in human-cop Lex or should I say she met her match in him? Either way it was a fun ride watching their personalities clash only to blend together in a hot mess. The danger surrounding them kept up the fast paced story and pulled in characters from the Dark Protectors while adding a twist. I think you should read the other series first to get the full effect but it is not necessary. I just love the deadly seriousness and yet fun camaraderie of the Dark Protectors. Then you add the smoking hot romance and you have me anxiously awaiting book two!

The New York Times bestselling author of Slow Burn turns up the heat when a sexy bet turns into so much more….

Hawkin Play, the bad boy rock star with a good guy heart, has lived a lifetime of cleaning up after his twin brother’s mistakes. Hunter’s most recent screwup could land Hawke in jail and risk the band’s future. Hawke agrees to guest lecture at a local college to stay in the judge’s good graces—and a bet with his bandmate to seduce his sexy teaching assistant is icing on the cake.

Quinlan Westin is harder to bed than Hawke imagined. She knows his type and is determined to avoid the rocker at all costs—even if their attraction runs deeper than simple lust.

Just as Hawke might finally be winning over the girl, his brother has other plans. When Hunter realizes his twin finally has a weakness, he’ll stop at nothing to take advantage….

Quinlan

I walk toward him, the sight of him slightly unkempt with a carefree smile he hasn’t possessed for days calls to my libido on so many levels it’s ridiculous. He brings a shot of something to his mouth and I don’t even give a second thought to what it is because I know I’ll taste it on my lips momentarily.

He hums deep in his throat when I step up into his body and there is something so inherently sexy about the sound—knowing that I caused that reaction—that together with the feel of his firm body against mine lets me know there will be no interruptions this time.

He looks at me, eyes darkening and one hand sliding beneath my shirt a beat before our lips meet in a hungry, no-holds-barred kiss. His empty bottle clatters on the counter behind him so that his other hand can join in the temptation. I lose myself in the taste of the tequila on his tongue, and the hypnotizing feeling of his hands on my body.

The music thumps hard around us, the noise buzzes, and the faint scent of cigarette smoke wafts in from outside but it’s as if none of it hits me because I’m consumed by everything about him: his taste, his cologne, the groan I can’t hear but can feel against our connected chests, the heat of his body. I don’t care who’s watching because it’s almost as if the overwhelming emotions that he’s experienced all week long are manifesting themselves into our mutual desperation.

“Upstairs. Now,” he murmurs against my lips, and I’ve never heard more perfect words. He grasps the bottle of tequila behind him in one hand and my hand in the other without saying anything further and walks with purpose through the crowd. I can’t see his face but he must have a determined look on it because not one person stops him to talk when that’s been the norm for the evening thus far. At the bottom of the stairs, I catch the eyes of the three wannabe women and just smirk. Call me bitchy, but I can’t help it, I’m with the one they were hoping to land tonight.

Sweet Ache was just epic! I loved it! Sweet Ache is part of K. Bromberg’s Driven Series, but it can be read as a standalone romance. You don’t need to read the series to fully enjoy the book. I love the series though and highly recommend them. I didn’t think the series could get any better, but Sweet Ache blew me away. It had everything I look for in a great love story. I devoured it! I fell in love with Hawk, the bad boy rocker along with the heroine, Quinlan. I loved their interactions and they left me smiling. Smoking hot romance at it’s best! K. Bromberg delivered a love story I won’t soon forget and this one is a new favorite I’ll read over and over. Go grab a copy and fall in love with a rock star.

Awakening wounded in a darkened cell, their psychic abilities blocked, Aden and Zaira know they must escape. But when the lethal soldiers break free from their mysterious prison, they find themselves in a harsh, inhospitable landscape far from civilization. Their only hope for survival is to make it to the hidden home of a predatory changeling pack that doesn’t welcome outsiders.

And they must survive. A shadowy enemy has put a target on the back of the Arrow squad, an enemy that cannot be permitted to succeed in its deadly campaign. Aden will cross any line to keep his people safe for this new future, where even an assassin might have hope of a life beyond blood and death and pain. Zaira has no such hope. She knows she’s too damaged to return from the abyss. Her driving goal is to protect Aden, protect the only person who has ever come back for her no matter what. This time, even Aden’s passionate determination may not be enough—because the emotionless chill of Silence existed for a reason. For the violent, and the insane, and the irreparably broken…like Zaira.

Shards of Hope was epic! Just when I thought the series couldn’t get any better Nalini Singh out did herself. Shards of Hope is the 14th book in Nakini Singh’s Psy/ Changeling Series. Each book can be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading them in order. The series is an intricate and unique paranormal world unlike any other. Nalini Singh’s Psy/Changeling world is an exciting paranormal world that has complex characters that draw you into their world and take you a long for a thrilling ride. Shards of Hope is Aden and Zaira’s story and it is my new favorite in the series. Their story was action packed, heart wrenching, and passionate. I loved every minute of it and want to read it all over again. Go grab a copy! If you’re new to the series start at the beginning and get ready for a great series binge read.

Review & Giveaway: Binding Ecstasy (A Guardians of the Realms Novel) by Setta Jay

Binding Ecstasy

 (Guardians of the Realms)

by Setta Jay

Publication Date: May 28, 2015

Setta Jay cover Binding Ecstasy

A Beautiful Weapon Contained.

Natasha and her sister were created with sinister purpose. They were Apollo’s most deadly and potent weapons. After finally escaping the evil God long ago, they made a secret life concealed among humanity in Earth Realm. There, Tasha has spent her nights watching the mortals at her club engage in erotic scenes that leave her aching… desperately longing for someone with the power to dominate her, to provide the pleasure she craves. For her own safety she knows she’s destined to live her life in the shadows, but when she sees a male who sparks an insatiable hunger she is unable to remain hidden.

A Powerful Guardian Restrained.

Bastian and his fellow Guardians have spent the last month in a fruitless search for Apollo. They know that something dangerous is on the horizon and it is imperative they lock away the corrupt God immediately. After recently witnessing a number of his brethren find their fated mates, Bastian never considered that he would also be blessed. But when the calm and controlled Guardian sees his alluring and seductive female he learns just how wild and consuming the mating frenzy can be. However, his mate is incredibly powerful and at risk of being caged by his own brothers if he doesn’t do everything, including lie, to protect her.

Immovable Object, Meet Irresistible Force.

It’s a battle that both will win if they can survive the deadly forces, both friend and foe, that surround them.

Warning: This novel is intended for a mature audience. You will find kick-ass females, explicit sex, voyeurism and alpha males with bad language.

I remember the thrill when reading book one of this series and I have to say book six keeps it going like a steam engine. Hot sexy alpha Guardians and the strong women they love can be used to describe a lot of books but Setta’s Guardians push it to the extreme. Each character is unique as are the matings yet they all work so well together as to be seamless and never boring. Bastien has rather dominating tastes which blended so erotically well with Tasha’s desires that I found myself blushing a time or two. Blazing hot sex, danger and intrigue all packed together so that you hate to put the book down. Nastia, Tasha’s twin is a tough as nails female who also meets her match though I won’t give it away except to say that I eagerly look forward to the continuation of that story. Again, a well written addition to the series that tenses you up one moment only to melt you the next. I loved it!

SPOTLIGHT, Review & Giveaway: Slave to Sensation (Psy/ Changeling Series) by Nalini Singh

  IMG_0818

We’re doing something a little different. We’ll be posting 2 spotlights for Nalini Singh’s Psy/ Changeling Series. Donna is new to the series and is reviewing book 1 today. I’ve been telling her she should read it for a while and she’s hooked now! I’m a long time fan of the series and will be reviewing “Shards of Hope” (June 2nd Release) on Friday, 5/29.  In a world that denies emotions, where the ruling Psy punish any sign of desire, Sascha Duncan must conceal the feelings that brand her as flawed. To reveal them would be to sentence herself to the horror of “rehabilitation”–the complete psychic erasure of everything she ever was…

Both human and animal, Lucas Hunter is a Changeling hungry for the very sensations the Psy disdain. After centuries of uneasy coexistence, these two races are now on the verge of war over the brutal murders of several Changeling women. Lucas is determined to find the Psy killer who butchered his packmate, and Sascha is his ticket into their closely guarded society. But he soon discovers that this ice-cold Psy is very capable of passion–and that the animal in him is fascinated by her. Caught between their conflicting worlds, Lucas and Sascha must remain bound to their identities–or sacrifice everything for a taste of darkest temptation…

This has been one of those series/authors firmly on my TBR list but never had the time to read, now I am kicking myself for waiting for so long. I loved it! I’m not a fan of sci-fi but the way she blended it with the paranormal was seamless and intriguing. It also helped that I liked Sascha and Lucas plus the other Changelings (shifters). The romance part was smoldering and not overshadowed by the mystery and threats they faced, so a definite plus. I even liked the bad guys and the threat they pose to those just wanting to be free. This series has moved from my ‘to be read’ to my ‘will be read’ list.

The Guardians of Eternity are facing a final battle to save their world—but battles of the heart may be the most difficult to fight…

Cyn, the vampire clan chief of Ireland, is an unabashed hedonist whose beauty is surpassed only by his insatiable appetite for pleasure. It’s no wonder he’s furious when he’s transported from the magical land of the pureblooded feys to his desolate private lair—only to have his very existence thrown into a chaos that even he cannot charm his way out of…

Most women may be all but powerless against Cyn, but Fallon, a sharp-witted fairy princess, is less than beguiled by the silver-tongued vampire. She’s a serious soul with no time for the sort of games he plays—especially when they learn that someone is trying to close the veil that separates the dimensions. But seduction may prove the most powerful force of all, as attraction ignites between the unlikely pair even as worlds are colliding around them…

Ireland, present day

Cyn, clan chief of Ireland and former berserker, moaned as he slowly regained consciousness. His brain was fuzzy, which meant it took a full minute to realize he was lying butt-naked on the cold stone floor of a cave.

Bloody hell. It had been a millennium since he’d woken in this precise cave, naked and disoriented. He didn’t like it any better today than he had a thousand years ago.

What’d happened?

With a groan he forced himself to a sitting position, his body hardening at the intoxicating scent that teased at his nose.

Champagne?

A fine, crisp vintage that made his entire body tingle with anticipation.

For a blissful minute he allowed the fragrance to swirl around him. It was oddly familiar. And, surprisingly, it stirred a complex mixture of emotions.

Arousal. Wariness. Frustration

It was the frustration that abruptly forced him to recall why the scent was so familiar.

Muttering a curse, Cyn had a searing memory of following a beautiful fairy through a portal. No . . . not a fairy, he wryly corrected himself. A Chatri. The ancient purebloods of the fey world who’d retreated to their homeland centuries before.

He’d been there to help Roke locate his mate, but Princess Fallon had shoved him out of the throne room when it was obvious that Roke and Sally needed time to work out their differences, insisting that he leave them in peace.

He’d only been vaguely annoyed at first. He didn’t trust the cunning Chatri as far as he could throw them, especially not their king, Sariel. But he wanted Roke to work out his troubles with his mate.

Besides, he was male enough to appreciate being in the company of a beautiful woman.

Or in the case of Fallon . . . a breathtakingly exquisite woman.

Her hair was a glorious tumble of rich gold brushed with hints of pale rose. The sort of hair that begged a man to bury his face in the silken mass. Her eyes were polished amber with flecks of emerald and framed by the thickest, longest lashes Cyn had ever seen. And her ivory features . . . gods almighty, they were so perfect they didn’t look real. He might be suspicious of Fallon, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t enjoy fantasizing about having her tossed on the nearby chaise longue while he peeled the gown off her slender body, he’d assured himself.

So he’d allowed himself to be distracted by the lovely female as he sipped the potent fey wine, not realizing the danger until his head began to spin and the world went dark.

Idiot.

He should have known that they were plotting something.

He might have a fondness for the fey, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t well aware of their mercurial natures.

And their love for luring the unwary into their clever traps.

With a low growl he turned his head, easily spotting the female who was sprawled naked on the ground, her golden hair shimmering even in the darkness.

He wanted to know how the hell she’d managed to bring them to the caves beneath his private lair. And he wanted to know now.

Cyn moved to bend beside her slumbering form, pretending that he wasn’t acutely aware of the enticing temptation of her long, slender body and the fragile beauty of her pale face.

Sleeping Beauty . . .

A scowl marred his forehead. Aye. She was a beauty. She was also a powerful fey princess who’d managed to catch him off guard once.

It wasn’t going to happen again.

“Fallon?” Cyn murmured, his voice deep and laced with an accent that hadn’t been heard in this world for centuries. She heaved a sigh at the sound of his voice, but she remained stubbornly asleep. Cyn knelt at her side, knowing better than to touch her. The feel of that satin skin beneath

his fingertips was guaranteed to make him forget he was pissed as hell at her little trick. “Fallon,” he growled, his voice a command. “Wake up.”

She gave a small jerk, her lashes fluttering upward to reveal the striking amber eyes with the shimmering flecks of emerald.

For a long moment she studied him in stunned confusion.

Understandable.

Most people found Cyn . . . intimidating. At six foot three he had a powerful chest and thick muscles that marked him as a warrior. His thick mane of dark blond hair hung halfway down his back except for the front strands that he kept woven into tight braids that framed his face.

His features were chiseled along blunt lines with a square jaw and high cheekbones. His brow was wide and his jade green eyes heavily lashed. Females seemed to find him handsome enough, but there was never any mistake that he was a ruthless killer.

She sucked in a shaky breath as her gaze lowered to the barbaric Tuatha Dé Danann tattoos that curled and swirled in a narrow green pattern around his upper arms, emphasizing the perfect alabaster of his skin.

His lips twisted, wondering what she would think of the golden dragon tattoo with crimson wings that was currently hidden beneath the thick mane of his hair.

He’d earned the mark of CuChulainn that was branded onto his right shoulder blade after he’d survived the battles of Durotriges.

It marked him as a clan chief.

“Vampire,” she muttered, as if having difficulty remembering who he was.

He narrowed his gaze, wondering what game she was playing. “Cyn.”

“Yes . . . Cyn.” Her confusion was replaced with a horror as if she were suddenly remembering who he was. A horror that only intensified when she belatedly realized they were both butt-naked. “Dear goddess.” She shoved herself to a sitting position, curling her arms around her knees as she glared at him with angry accusation. “What have you done to me?”

“Me?” He made a sound of disbelief, unconsciously reaching to push a strand of golden hair off her flushed cheek.

“No . . .” With a flare of panic she was scrambling backward, a genuine fear flaring through the amber eyes. “Stay away.”

Cyn muttered a low curse. Her pretense of confusion was annoying the hell out of him, but he didn’t like the thought that she was afraid of him.

Strange when he’d devoted several centuries to terrifying his enemies.

“Settle down, princess,” he murmured softly.

“Settle down?” A flush stained her beautiful face. “I wake up naked in the company of a strange vampire far away from my home and you want me to settle down?” She bit her bottom lip, her flush deepening to crimson. “Did you—”

“What?”

“Violate me?”

What the hell? Cyn surged upright. Six foot three of quivering, offended, naked male.

“No, I didn’t damned well violate you,” he rasped. “And if I had, I can assure you that you would not only remember, but you’d be on your knees thanking me for the privilege.”

Her fear was replaced by a more familiar disdain. As if he was a bug that needed to be squashed beneath her royal heel.

“Why, you arrogant . . . leech.”

He folded his arms over his massive chest. “At least I’m not a stuck-up prig of a fairy.”

“If you didn’t violate me, why are we naked?” she demanded, careful to keep her gaze locked on his face. Was she afraid his bare body might strike her blind? “And how did we get here?”

He snorted. “That’s a question I should be asking you.”

“I beg your pardon?”

“I’m a vampire.”

Her lips thinned in annoyance, her chin tilted as she continued her ridiculous charade of innocence.

“Yes, I had managed to figure that out.”

“Then you know that I can’t create portals,” he snapped, deliberately allowing his gaze to skim downward. Unlike the aggravating female, he had no problem enjoying a naked body. Especially one so appetizing. “Only the fey can do that.”

She frowned, belatedly realizing she couldn’t try and pin the blame of their abrupt teleportation on him.

Odd, she hadn’t struck him as stupid.

Just the opposite, in fact.

“Fey aren’t the only creatures who can create portals.” She tried to hedge.

“Well, I obviously didn’t do it.”

“Neither did I.”

He made a sound of impatience. Why was she continuing with this game?

“You expect me to believe you?”

The flecks of emerald shimmered in her eyes. “My father has forbidden his people to leave our homeland.”

“Oh aye, and a daughter has never dared to disobey her father.”

She cast a condemning glance around the barren cave.

“Trust me. If I did decide to defy my father, I wouldn’t choose to travel to this dump.”

His low growl filled the air. He was a true hedonist. A vampire who reveled in rare books, fine wine, and beautiful women.

And in turn, women adored him.

All women.

But this female . . .

She wasn’t the warm, willing, bundle of pleasure he was accustomed to. She was rude and prickly and downright dangerous.

“Watch your tongue, princess,” he snarled. “This dump happens to be a part of my private lair.”

“There.” She pointed an accusing finger toward him. “I knew it. You kidnapped me.”

Cyn rolled his eyes. Could this farce get any more ridiculous?

“The only one kidnapped was me.”

“Why would I kidnap an oversized, ego-bloated vampire?”

Yeah. Why would she? It took him a minute to shuffle through his still-fuzzy thoughts.

“To keep me from protecting my friend,” he at last concluded.

Hadn’t she pulled him out of the throne room, leaving Roke at the mercy of her father, Sariel? And then she’d plied him with some wicked fey brew that had knocked him unconscious.

Aye. It made perfect sense that it was a nefarious plot to separate him from his friend.

At least it did until she glared at him in outraged disbelief.

“Are you completely mental? Your friend was exactly where he wanted to be.”

Okay. She had a point. Roke hadn’t looked like he needed Cyn’s services. In

fact, the last he’d seen of his fellow vampire, he was wrapping his mate in his arms, his expression one of besotted devotion.

Bleck.

“Then perhaps you simply wanted to be alone with me.” He flashed a smile that revealed his snowy white fangs. One way or another he was getting answers. “You wouldn’t be the first female to use magic to get me into your bed.”

She muttered something distinctly unladylike beneath her breath.

“I am a fairy princess.”

“And?”

“And I don’t share my bed with—”

He planted his hands on his hips, his expression daring her to finish the sentence.

“With?”

Her lips parted to complete her insult, but before she could speak there was a sizzle of power in the air. Cyn turned toward the center of the cave, his muscles coiled to attack as there was a faint pop, and then a tiny demon dressed in a long white gown appeared out of thin air.

Cyn gave a startled hiss, his eyes widening at the creature who could easily pass as a young girl with her small stature and long silver braid that nearly brushed the floor. Cyn, however, wasn’t fooled. He recognized the strange oblong eyes that were a solid black and the sharp, pointed teeth.

This was no harmless juvenile.

She had enough power to crush him and his entire clan.

Even worse, she was an Oracle. One of the rare demons who sat on the Commission, the ultimate rulers of the demon world.

“Enough squabbling, children,” she chided, folding her hands together as she studied them with an unnerving intensity.

“Holy shite.” Cyn offered a belated bow. “Siljar.”

Fallon crouched on the ground, her arms wrapped around her knees in a futile effort at modesty.

“You know this person?”

“Not person,” Cyn corrected, shivering as Siljar’s energy sizzled over his skin. “Oracle.”

The amber eyes widened. “Oh.”

“Forgive me.” Siljar gave an absent wave of her hand and Cyn made a strangled sound of shock as he found himself covered by a plain white robe that hit him just below the knees. The Oracle gave another wave of her hand and Fallon was covered in a matching robe. “I haven’t created a portal into the fairy homeland for a number of centuries.”

Cyn scowled, ignoring Fallon’s I-told-you-so glare. “You brought us here?” he demanded.

Siljar gave a nod of her head. “I did.”

“Why?”

“Because I have need of you.”

His acute hearing picked up Fallon’s soft sigh of relief as she rose to her feet and brushed her hands down the satin robe.

“You need the vampire?”

“I have a name,” he reminded the princess with a snap.

Siljar clicked her tongue, her gaze shifting from Fallon to Cyn.

“I need both of you.”

Cyn stiffened. It was never, ever a good thing when an Oracle had need of him.

“Why?”

There was the unmistakable scent of sulfur as Siljar’s expression tightened with anger.

“I fear the Commission is being tampered with.”

Cyn arched a brow. Hadn’t Styx sent word that they’d uncovered the plot by the strange demons who’d been holding Fallon’s father captive?

“Aye, we know the Nebule planted a spy to pose as an Oracle,” he said.

Siljar shrugged. “He has been destroyed.”

Oh. Cyn grimaced. “You suspect there’s another traitor?”

“That was my first thought,” Siljar admitted. “But I believe that on this occasion the Oracles are being manipulated without their knowledge.”

That seemed . . . unlikely.

“Why are you suspicious?” he demanded.

Siljar hesitated a second before revealing what was troubling her.

“Over the past few weeks I’ve found myself awakening as if from a trance to discover I’m seated in the Council Room,” she at last said.

Cyn blinked in confusion. That was it? He’d been kidnapped and dropped naked in these caves because the old gal was becoming forgetful?

He forced himself to consider his words. Only an idiot implied that an Oracle might be going a bit batty.

“The past year has been stressful, especially for the Commission,” he murmured.

“It has. And if I was the only Oracle to experience the strange phenomenon, then I would assume that your implication that I’m suffering from some sort of mental decay was right.” Her lips twitched as he flinched at her blunt words. “I am, after all, quite old and it wouldn’t be entirely unlikely that I would accidentally transport myself to a familiar location without realizing what I’m doing.”

Cyn ignored Fallon’s barely hidden amusement at his discomfort.

“But?”

“More than once I discovered I wasn’t alone.”

Cyn grimaced even as he heard Fallon suck in a startled breath.

Having Siljar suffering from an occasional blackout was one thing. To think of the entire Commission being controlled by some unseen force . . . bloody hell.

“The other Oracles didn’t know how they got there either?” he rasped.

Siljar gave a somber shake of her head. “No.”

Another great book in Alexandra Ivy’s Guardians of Eternity Series. I’m obsessed with this series! I love the world Alexandra Ivy has created and the characters. Most series seem to fizzle out over time but the Guardians of Eternity series keeps getting better. When Darkness Ends is the 12th book in this series and can be read as a standalone but I recommend starting at the beginning. It’s a great paranormal series. When Darkness Ends is full of action, danger, and passionate romance. Cyn, a Berserker Vampire, and Fallon, a fairy princess, are perfect for each other. I loved their interactions. Their story hooked me from the beginning and took me on an enjoyable journey. If you haven’t read this series I highly recommend it for paranormal romance lovers and if you have read it you’ll love this new addition to this incredible series.
