This book had it all. Love triangles, death, good & evil, love, hate, violence, friendship, smiles, and tears. Yet it wasn’t a jumbled mess of storylines. It all wove nicely into an exciting tale that held on to me long after the last page was read. Erika and Balz were perfectly matched. Her intelligence and strength blended so well with his and their conversations flowed easily so you just knew they were meant for each other.  I think she is my favorite shellan so far. She can handle herself and is strong without being cold. She is also not a damsel in distress. I love that he appreciates that in her. From time to time, their connection almost had a “fated” feel about it, but it blossomed nicely into a wonderful love.

I will not divulge any of the storyline because I want you to take this rollercoaster ride for yourselves. So, I will be vague on the following comments. Devina – the demon we love to hate is at it again, only tenfold. This set into motion some situations that made me bark out “WHAT?” a few times. Who am I kidding….I said a few other things as well. The book was full of surprises that make me wish book 21 was coming out tomorrow. I also can’t wait until others read it so I can talk about it all.

This is an exciting start to a new series. I was immediately drawn into the story, liking Lydia and Daniel, their banter, their individual mysterious lives, and their lovely romance. The mystery and danger surrounding them kept shifting and evolving while weaving in a slow-building romance that was touching. Thankfully, the world building didn’t bog down the story – even though it left quite a few questions lingering. That was the main reason for not scoring it a 5. I am not a huge fan of having to wait a year to understand who/what the players are, and if they’re good or bad, even though it kept me glued to the book. Overall, I loved it and will read it again before the next book, to delve deeper into nuances that I may have missed.

I enjoyed this installment in the series. As before, there were several storylines going on that became confusing. Thankfully, they played out well as the story progressed. I loved Sahvage. A past brother living as a ghost and outcast suddenly comes full circle in all his alpha glory. I wish I liked Mae but could not get past her behavior and actions. I understand Sahvage’s love for her, but I couldn’t get there. I realize her motivation was driving the story, it just wasn’t enough for me.

I enjoyed seeing some of my old favorite males involved in the story, making me want to go back and read their books again. Devina is a baddie that I love to hate, and the new characters look to be interesting going forward. Although not as romantic or sexy as some past books, it was just right for the level of suspense and action. I also cannot say how much I’m looking forward to what is to come. The hints were so much fun and enticing.

I absolutely loved this installment in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. It brought home why I love this series so much, and I read it in one sitting. Murhder gutted me. His stoic resolve wrapped around a wounded heart crying out for love and belonging was soul-searing. Sarah was the perfect match for him. Strong and intelligent while possessing a lost soul herself. Their romance was perfectly crafted and swept me away.

John and Xhex play a large role in this story as well but didn’t detract from the romance – which I appreciated. (I get frustrated when the story becomes too convoluted to enjoy the romance.) Their storyline tugged at my heart-strings and added another layer of dramatic tension. I can’t wait to see where that takes things.

There wasn’t a lot of the brotherhood banter, in fact they ticked me off a bit at times… but what can you expect from a bunch of hot-blooded males? All I can say, is between Murhder and Sarah, then John and Xhex, have a box of tissue handy…you’ll need it. I’m in love and plan to read this again and again.

Wow. I’m not sure where to start on this review. It was a story about two desperate souls brought together in unsavory circumstances, and how their separate goals- and futures – converged in a single quest. Ahmare was strong and driven, yet she never appeared hard-edged and brittle. I was able to become invested in them both early in the book. Duran was full of hate and vengeance, yet he bore a vulnerability that touched my heart deeply. (I’m still smiling that he got the HEA he deserves.) No, it doesn’t have the banter and camaraderie of the Brotherhood, but it sure has the heart. It’s a dark book of danger and pain woven beautifully with a touching romance. I hated to see it end.

I loved book one of this new series. Anne and Danny’s characters were scarred and complex, yet relatable. I soon became invested in their lives and the people around them. This book gives the other first responders enough of an introduction to know that they all have shadows, along with a deep bond with each other. That only amps up my yearning for book 2, so I can get another taste of these damaged heroes.

For me, the exciting danger and mystery held center stage, rather than the romance part of it. I’m not complaining as I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough, and the progression of the romance was satisfying. As I said….I am anxiously awaiting the second installment.

A graduate of Smith College, she was a double major in History and Art History with a medieval concentration in both and she still longs at times for a return to those days sitting in dark lecture halls, looking at slides of old triptychs and reliquaries. Prior to becoming a full time writer, she was a corporate attorney, serving for many years as the Chief of Staff of one of Harvard Medical Schools premier teaching sites. Her idea of absolute heaven is a day filled with nothing but her computer, her dog and her coffee pot and the Brothers, of course.
