“I’m going to go start the coffee and get out the dessert tray,” I tell Callie, and then get up from where I was perched on the arm of Rosie’s chair.

“Jessie, honey, can you also grab the Bundt cake I left in my truck?” Donna calls out to me. “It should be on the seat.”

I nod and smile graciously. Leaving the living room, I head into the kitchen, flip on the coffeemaker and head out onto the porch, making my way to the driveway.

Jordan is leaning against his parents’ old truck. He’s just standing there in his stupid knitted hat with his stupid broken foot and his dumb sad eyes. He came all this way and he can’t do anything more than stand there like he’s Krazy-Glued to a Ford? Suddenly I hate him more than I ever have before.

Without a word, I storm over to the passenger-side door—the opposite side from where he is—and open it. I see the cake and pull it carefully off the seat. When I turn around he’s standing directly in front of me, blocking the way back into the house.

I stare up at him as a flood of emotions roars through my body like a tsunami. I want to cry, punch him, scream and even laugh at the universe’s one-two punch to my gut. The sun is behind him, making the tips of his flippy blond hair glow. He needs a haircut. He looks like a Muppet.

“Hey.”

Hey? His big opening line after taking my virginity, breaking my heart and disappearing from my life for more than half a decade is “Hey?”

I think this, but I don’t say a single word.
 He clears his throat. “I’m sorry about Lily.”

“Thank you.” I sidestep him but he moves with me.

“Let me carry that for you,” he offers, extending his long arms and big hands toward the cake.

“I have a dead grandmother, not broken arms,” I snap, pulling the cake closer to my body as I glare at him. “I can carry a stupid cake.”

He takes it out of my hands anyway. Asshole. I roll my eyes and storm back to the house. He hobbles behind me. Unfortunately, one of his strides is like two and a half of mine so although I am moving faster than him, he’s still right behind me when we get to the porch.

“Jessie,” he says as I reach for the door. “Can I talk to you for a second?”

I close my eyes, sigh and then turn to face him, crossing my arms over my chest as if to hide the scars on my heart…or protect it from new ones.

“I just wanted to say—” He moistens his lips and waits until I look up and meet his eye. “I wanted to tell you I’m sorry for what happened. You know, when we were younger.”

He’s sorry it happened. Jordan Garrison is sorry he took my virginity. Bitchin’. Now my day is complete.

“I’m sorry you’re sorry,” I reply coolly.

“What?” His blond eyebrows pinch together.
Rudely, I ask “Are you done talking?” and reach for the door again. “I have a roomful of people who care about me and my sisters inside. I haven’t seen them in years and will most likely never see them again. So, if you’ll excuse me . . .”

I swing the screen door open and slip inside, not waiting for him and the damn cake to follow. Cole and Leah and my sisters are in the kitchen. Callie is pouring coffee into mugs. She looks up and scowls as Jordan sticks his booted foot in the door to keep it from closing in his face. He enters the kitchen behind me.

“I thought you left,” Callie says flatly. “Doesn’t Seattle need you back?”

“I’m not ready to play yet,” he mumbles, motioning toward the boot on his foot as he places the cake on the kitchen table.

“Yeah, well, if you stick around here you might have a few more broken bones by the time you head back,” Callie mutters coldly, and I place a soothing hand on her shoulder, giving it a squeeze.

Her brown eyes are angry but she shuts up. I fling open a drawer and turn to hand Jordan a knife. “Make yourself useful and cut the cake.”

“Remember when you two were best friends?” Cole blurts out with a big, dopey smile across his freckled face. If looks could kill, Jordan and I would be arrested for murder, and they’d be scraping Cole Garrison off the walls of this kitchen for weeks.

Three days later, just after sundown, I’m back in the same wine bar where Jonah and I first met for “negotiations.” I guess this is round two.

Tonight, however, the bar is less sultry, more rowdy. This is a home-game weekend, which means Longhorns football fans and UT alumni are already swarming into town. I didn’t put on anything special this time – I’m wearing the same fawn-colored cotton dress I put on this morning. Yet I feel overdressed anyway, because I’m surrounded by a sea of orange T-shirts and football jerseys. It’s like being trapped in a can of Fanta.

Somehow I know the moment Jonah walks in. I turn my head toward him even before he’s fully through the door. His shirt and jeans are black, his gaze sharp as he instantly focuses on me. He doesn’t smile as he comes closer, cutting through this raucous crowd like a knife.

“We can’t talk like this,” he says as he reaches me.

“Hello to you too.”

But Jonah’s right. Having an intimate conversation here is impossible. We’d have to shout to hear each other. Bad idea. “I think this place has a patio in back.”

It does. Of course, the patio is crowded too – but it’s not as awful, and at least here the talking and laughter around us isn’t deafening. I can even hear soft Spanish guitar music playing. The heat that lingers even after nightfall curls around me; my skin is already moist, and strands of hair that have escaped my ponytail stick to the nape of my neck.

Jonah reaches toward me, like he’s going to take me by the arm, but I don’t let him lead me. It’s not like I don’t see where we’re headed – the one empty corner. Strings of multicolored lights overhead sway as the breeze as we walk there together, to a small dark passage near the back door that leads into the alley. When I stop, Jonah does too, still a few steps between us.

“Let me repeat my question,” he says. “What changed?”

“You took off without a word! That’s what changed. How is that not obvious?”

I can see the muscles tense in his shoulders, his jaw. He’s so built, so aggressively masculine, that I first think he’s barely holding himself back from biting my head off. Yet his voice is steady, not angry. “I wasn’t aware we had to check in with each other about our daily schedule.”

“I didn’t ask for hourly reports. You left for weeks, and you never even told me you were going anywhere.”

“The point was to remain strangers. Wasn’t it? To keep it … raw.”

Something about the way he says that – raw – makes my breath catch in my chest. As angry as I am with Jonah, I can’t forget the way his touch makes me feel.

I can’t stop wanting him.

Jonah must sense my weakness. A slow smile begins to dawn on his face. Almost a smirk. “You can have neat, tidy and safe. You can have tame. Or you can have what you really want. But you can’t have both, Vivienne. And I think we both know which one you’re going to choose.”


I was intrigued by the synopsis and short commentary made by the author so I had to check this book out. A woman with dark fantasies has a chance to try them out with someone she can trust. I was worried about how it would be portrayed and am pleased to say it was realistic and all consensual between Viv and Jonah. In fact they in a way help each other through their hot role-play. I found the story not only sexy but moving and touching. Each have their demons and were lucky enough to find someone to work through them. I’m looking forward to the second book to see how their relationship progresses. Yes this book may not appeal to everyone but then, what book does?

Quinlan

I walk toward him, the sight of him slightly unkempt with a carefree smile he hasn’t possessed for days calls to my libido on so many levels it’s ridiculous. He brings a shot of something to his mouth and I don’t even give a second thought to what it is because I know I’ll taste it on my lips momentarily.

He hums deep in his throat when I step up into his body and there is something so inherently sexy about the sound—knowing that I caused that reaction—that together with the feel of his firm body against mine lets me know there will be no interruptions this time.

Sweet Ache was just epic! I loved it! Sweet Ache is part of K. Bromberg’s Driven Series, but it can be read as a standalone romance. You don’t need to read the series to fully enjoy the book. I love the series though and highly recommend them. I didn’t think the series could get any better, but Sweet Ache blew me away. It had everything I look for in a great love story. I devoured it! I fell in love with Hawk, the bad boy rocker along with the heroine, Quinlan. I loved their interactions and they left me smiling. Smoking hot romance at it’s best! K. Bromberg delivered a love story I won’t soon forget and this one is a new favorite I’ll read over and over. Go grab a copy and fall in love with a rock star.

Ms. Kincaid blended heartfelt and steamy into a fun romantic story that made me smile.

Tryst is a fun and sexy new adult romance. Alex Rosa delivered a great story with characters that draw the reader into their story. It’s a quick read and the story held my attention. I loved Blake. He’s a cocky manwhore, but he’s fun and likeable.  Skylar moves in with her brother after escaping an abusive relationship and Blake is her brother’s off limits roommate. I loved their interactions together and the growth of the characters throughout the book. Their chemistry was off the charts and the romance was hot when they got together. I recommend this book for new adult romance lovers looking for a fun and sexy read this summer. I’ll be keeping an eye out for Alex Rosa’s next book! She’s a new author to watch.

We’re doing something a little different. There are 2 spotlights for Nalini Singh’s Psy/ Changeling Series. Donna is new to the series and reviewed book 1 earlier this week. Shards of Hope was epic! Just when I thought the series couldn’t get any better Nalini Singh out did herself. Shards of Hope is the 14th book in Nakini Singh’s Psy/ Changeling Series. Each book can be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading them in order. The series is an intricate and unique paranormal world unlike any other. Nalini Singh’s Psy/Changeling world is an exciting paranormal world that has complex characters that draw you into their world and take you a long for a thrilling ride. Shards of Hope is Aden and Zaira’s story and it is my new favorite in the series. Their story was action packed, heart wrenching, and passionate. I loved every minute of it and want to read it all over again. Go grab a copy! If you’re new to the series start at the beginning and get ready for a great series binge read.

imageI’ve been writing as long as I can remember and all of my stories always held a thread of romance (even when I was writing about a prince who could shoot lasers out of his eyes). I love creating unique characters, love giving them happy endings and I even love the voices in my head. There’s no other job I would rather be doing. In September 2002, when I got the call that Silhouette Desire wanted to buy my first book, Desert Warrior, it was a dream come true. I hope to continue living the dream until I keel over of old age on my keyboard.

I was born in Fiji and raised in New Zealand. I also spent three years living and working in Japan, during which time I took the chance to travel around Asia. I’m back in New Zealand now, but I’m always plotting new trips. If you’d like to see some of my travel snapshots, have a look at the Travel Diary page (updated frequently).

So far, I’ve worked as a lawyer, a librarian, a candy factory general hand, a bank temp and an English teacher and not necessarily in that order. Some might call that inconsistency but I call it grist for the writer’s mill.

 I remember the thrill when reading book one of this series and I have to say book six keeps it going like a steam engine. Hot sexy alpha Guardians and the strong women they love can be used to describe a lot of books but Setta’s Guardians push it to the extreme. Each character is unique as are the matings yet they all work so well together as to be seamless and never boring. Bastien has rather dominating tastes which blended so erotically well with Tasha’s desires that I found myself blushing a time or two. Blazing hot sex, danger and intrigue all packed together so that you hate to put the book down. Nastia, Tasha’s twin is a tough as nails female who also meets her match though I won’t give it away except to say that I eagerly look forward to the continuation of that story. Again, a well written addition to the series that tenses you up one moment only to melt you the next. I loved it!
