Review: ALEXIARES by N.J. Walters

ALEXIARES (Blackwell Brothers’ Redemption Book 2) by N.J. Walters

Publication Date: November 10, 2025

Genre: Paranormal Romance

From New York Times bestselling author N.J. Walters comes the tale of Death’s second son…in this energetic, paranormal small-town romance that’s deadly irresistible!

Some find redemption. Others land in it.

One moment, Alexiares Blackwell was reaping yet another human soul and gunning through New York City on his Harley. The next, he’s dropped into the path of an oncoming car in the small town of Redemption.

It turns out his dear old dad—the Grim Reaper himself—has decided that Alex needs a crash course in humanity. Literally. Now he’s stuck in a nowhere town with nothing but his motorcycle and some serious parent issues.

But no one messes with Death. Not even his sons.

Stripped of his powers, Alex is trying to figure out what his father wants from him—all while attempting to resist his increasingly complicated attraction to inn owner Cilla Wainwright. Alex can’t risk anything that resembles feelings…not even when she surprises him with a kiss that unravels him in ways he still can’t figure out.

Because Alex has a job to do.

And it’s starting to look a lot like the next soul he’s supposed to reap…is hers.

Each book in the Blackwell Brothers Redemption series is STANDALONE:
* Samael
* Alexiares

~*~*~

I’m really enjoying this series. The Blackwell Brothers Redemption series a unique twist on paranormal reaper love stories. It’s about a trio of brothers and this one is the middle brother’s story. Alex and Cilla run into each other and there are instant sparks. There’s spice, danger and suspense. I highly recommend this book for paranormal romance lovers looking for a new series to dive into. I’m hooked and can’t wait for the next book.

Review: DEADLY STORMS by Christine Feehan

DEADLY STORMS by Christine Feehan

Publication Date: September 2, 2025

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Danger is gathering on the horizon in this gripping novel of romantic suspense from #1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan.

Shabina Foster does her best to lead a normal life. She takes comfort in her friends and her dogs and finds passion in running her own small-town café in the eastern Sierra. Still, there’s no denying the scars she carries. Truly opening up her guarded world seems like an impossible dream—especially when it comes to the one man who makes her feel safe. I’ve not read books one and two in this romantic suspense series but was able to follow along with no problem. The only issue is that I came in blind to the relationship between Shabina and Rainier. You don’t actually see him until over halfway through the book. She only talks about him…a lot. Because of that, I never got invested in him except loving the way he treats her. Shabina herself is resilient, smart, and strong. She suffers from PTSD due to extreme abuse at the hands of her kidnapper years before. I was pleased to see that the author discussed the treatment and issues she faced. I liked her personality and the lovely camaraderie she had with her friends. They are a group of women I would love to be a part of. Note: There was a mention of her having a psychic connection to birds, yet that was never fleshed out. Pity, as that would have been an interesting aspect of the story.

The storyline itself was filled with tension from page one. They had to deal with a two-pronged mysterious danger. It kept me guessing whether it was the same madman or separate issues. That made for a very exciting read that I could not put down.

Review: REALM OF THIEVES by Karina Halle

REALM OF THIEVES (Thieves of Dragemor Book 1)
by Karina Halle

Publication Date: June 10, 2025

Genre: Romantasy

Two thieves vie for dominance in the illegal dragon egg trade, putting both their lives and their hearts on the line in this scorching romantasy from New York Timesbestselling author Karina Halle.

For Brynla Aihr, crime and survival have always gone hand in hand. Ever since she escaped the fanatical dragon-worshipping cult that controls her homeland, she’s had to carve out a life doing the unthinkable: stealing dragon eggs. Egg theft is illegal and, in most cases, fatal. To breach a dragon’s nest means a harrowing journey through the ancient wards spelled to keep the monstrous beasts confined. Dragons can’t get out and only those with a death wish can get in.

Despite the risks, dragon eggs are highly coveted for their magic. An illegal trade flourishes under competing criminal empires, and Brynla’s loyalty has always been to the highest bidder. Until she finds herself kidnapped and blackmailed by Lord Andor, a formidable lieutenant of House Kolbeck, and thrust into the dangerous political games of rivaling dynasties.

Brynla and Andor clash at every turn, sparking heat in ways Brynla’s never felt before. But in a world that’s prophesized to return to the dragons, and rife with betrayal and secrets at every turn…how close to the flames is she willing to stand?

~*~*~*~

I binge read this one straight through. REALM OF THIEVES had a really unique take on dragons and great world building. It also had great chemistry between the characters, lots of action and steamy romance. I really got swept up in this new Romantasy series Karina Halle created. I think it will be one of my favorites this year. Go grab a copy.

Review: REBEL IN THE DEEP by Katee Robert

REBEL IN THE DEEP (Crimson Sails Book 3) by Katee Robert

Publication Date: May 20, 2025

Genre: Paranormal Romance

The rebellion’s fight turns into a battle of the heart in this pulse-pounding conclusion to the Crimson Sails trilogy by New York Times bestselling author Katee Robert.

Nox has been steadfastly working for the rebellion for years. They don’t ask for much in return, except for one crucial condition: their ex, the noble Bastian, stays as far away from them as possible. To say things ended poorly between them is an understatement . . . and it’s the only relationship Nox has never quite recovered from.

But now the rules have changed. Siobhan, the rebel leader, has emerged from hiding to tell Nox that Bastian’s been taken captive and the secrets he holds tight are in danger of being revealed. The fate of the entire rebellion now rests on Nox and Siobhan’s ability to rescue Bastian from a Cŵn Annwn ship.

Saving Bastian is only the start of their hardships, as the trio is tracked by ferocious pirates across Threshold. And Nox’s complicated relationships and entanglements with Bastian and Siobhan put not only their life at risk but their heart on the line.

~*~*~*~

I love Katee Robert’s books because she always delivers a great HEA and the final book in The Crimson Series Trilogy delivered. It had all the spice, chemistry, great characters and a great plot. It’s set on the high seas with monsters so there is lots of action and adventure as well. Ultimately it was a great love story between three people. I loved the writing and the story and highly recommend the trilogy for paranormal romance lovers. I devoured it.

Review: SHIELD OF SPARROWS by Devney Perry

SHIELD OF SPARROWS by Devney Perry

Publication Date: May 6, 2025

Genre: Romantasy

Now in development as a feature film with Amazon MGM Studios, with John Wick screenwriter Derek Kolstad attached to write the script!

Shield of Sparrows is a slow-burn, high-stakes romantasy perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas and Rebecca Yarros—where enemies become lovers, monsters stalk a cursed realm, and a forgotten princess finds the strength to tear off her crown and become the warrior she was never meant to be.

The gods sent monsters to the five kingdoms to remind mortals they must kneel.

I’ve spent my life kneeling—to their will and to my father’s. As a princess, my only duty is to wear the crown and obey the king.

I was never meant to rule. Never meant to fight. And I was never supposed to be the daughter who sealed an ancient treaty with her own blood.

But that changed the fateful day I stepped into my father’s throne room. The day a legendary monster hunter sailed to our shores. The day a prince ruined my life.

Now I’m crossing treacherous lands beside a warrior who despises me as much as I despise him—bound to a future I didn’t choose and a husband I barely know.

Everyone wants me to be something I’m not—a queen, a spy, a sacrifice.

But what if I refused the role chosen for me? What if I made my own rules? What if there’s power in being underestimated?

And what if—for the first time—I reached for it?

~*~*~*~

This book left me with a major book hangover. It’s a slow burn romantasy. You don’t get to the spice until later in the book. It’s explosive when it comes though. SHIELD OF SPARROWS had epic world building that really drew me into the story. I also loved the plot and characters. It’s a truly unique story with lots of twists and I can’t wait for the next book. Go grab a copy and devour it.

Review: THUNDER GAME by Christine Feehan

THUNDER GAME (A Ghostwalker Novel, Book 20) by Christine Feehan

Publication Date: May 6, 2025

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Two broken souls find a love worth fighting for in this captivating GhostWalker novel from #1 New York Timesbestselling author Christine Feehan.

Diego Campos has come home to die. The GhostWalker is tired of walking a dark path shaped by countless losses. There has never been a moment of good in his life that wasn’t followed by something bad. But as he makes his way to his family’s homestead in the Appalachian Mountains, his plans are interrupted by a violent ambush that sets his life on a new course.

In between fighting off a small army of assailants, Diego is struck by a beautiful, brutal warrior woman unlike anyone he’s encountered before. Compelled to rescue her, Diego uses his psychic gifts to make Leila’s broken body whole again and save her from certain death. With each new breath she regains her strength, showcasing her humor, intelligence and courage as she reveals the truths of her past and inspires feelings Diego never thought his heart could experience.

After a lifetime alone, in the middle of firefight, Diego has finally found a light to guide him through the darkness—and one brief touch is enough to set them both aflame.

~*~*~*~

One thing you can always count on in the Ghostwalker series is uniqueness. All the enhanced characters have their own powers, quirks, and limitations. That makes each book interesting to the overall storyline flowing through all the books.

This book started out quickly with danger and battle, enabling warriors, Diego and Leila to meet. Quite a bit of time was spent developing their relationship and enhancing their mutual respect. I liked how they slowly helped to heal each other. Not just in body, but mentally as well. Their banter and rapport was fun and added a bit of lightness to the situation.

My problem with this installment is that the healing and downtime drug out too long.  Granted it helped to cement their relationship, but as a book, it slowed it down repeatedly. The ending was a bit anticlimactic as well. ( I’m not sure why it was written like that.)  I did love when the rest of the Ghostwalkers showed up with their teasing and camaraderie. I enjoy a group dynamic like that.

The truth is stranger than fan fiction in the next sexy paranormal rom-com from the beloved author of The Roommate.

The only place small-town outcast Alex Lawson fits in is the online fan forum she built for The Arcane Files, a long-running werewolf detective show. Her dedication to archiving fictional supernatural lore made her Internet-famous, even if she harbors a secret disdain for the show’s star, Devin Ashwood. (Never meet your heroes—sometimes they turn out to be The Worst.)

Ever since his show went off the air, Devin and his career have spiraled, but waking up naked in the woods outside his LA home with no memory of the night before is a new low. It must have been a coincidence that the once-in-a-century Wolf Blood Moon crested last night. The claws, fangs, and howling are a little more difficult to explain away. Desperate for answers, Devin finds Alex—the closest thing to an expert that exists. If only he could convince her to stop hating his guts long enough to help….

Once he makes her an offer she can’t refuse, these reluctant allies lower their guards trying to wrangle his inner beast. Unfortunately, getting up close and personal quickly comes back to bite them.

SynopsisHe’s the most beautiful man I’ve ever seen…and the most dangerous. Eternally young and full of a brilliant passion that may ultimately be the end of me: my perfect Dorian Gray.

The painting that’s kept Dorian Gray flawless for over a century is beginning to fall apart, rotted by his life of reckless decadence. Desperate, he seeks out the only person who might be able to save him: a talented young painter descended from Dorian’s first love.

Baz may have the same magical gift as her ancestor, but she’s vowed never to paint anyone’s likeness again. Haunted by the memory of the terrible price her talent can exact, she swears she will not be swayed—not even by the seductive words dripping like venom from the lips of the most beautiful man she’s ever met.

Yet as Dorian tries to persuade Baz by any means possible, they become aware of a darker, deadlier magic awakening around them. Dangerous forces, long dormant, have been stirred by Baz’s presence…and are determined to have her no matter the cost. As tensions rise and desire flares ever-hotter, Baz and Dorian become trapped in a complex web of conflicting motives, messy emotions, and a growing, desperate passion that may well consume them both.

An addictive and truly original spicy New Adult retelling of The Picture of Dorian Gray with a magical twist.

Cori 5 StarsI couldn’t put this book down. I got wrapped up in the story and loved the characters. If you’ve read Dorian Grey this is a retelling with spice. It’s the second book in the Gilded Monsters series but you don’t have to read the first book before picking up this one. I haven’t read the first book but plan on picking it up next. I have it and the next release on my TBR. I also recommend the paperback copy of this one because it’s so pretty. It has sprayed edges.  I thoroughly enjoyed Rebecca Kenney’s writing style and she’s going on my must buy list. This book is one of my favorites this year.

Review: DARK HOPE by Christine Feehan

DARK HOPE (A Carpathian Novel) by Christine Feehan

Publication Date: January 7, 2025

Genre: Paranormal Romance

SynopsisIMG_3724Immortal passions rage as evil grows in this gripping novel in Christine Feehan’s #1 New York Times bestselling Carpathian series.
Silke Vriese Reinders knows a war is coming. The demon slayer has seen it over and over again in the cards—and the battle won’t just be for the survival of her remote village, but for all mankind. Silke knows the only way to win will be with the help of the Carpathians. A fact that fills her with trepidation, as she is fated to be the lifemate to one of the ancient supernatural warriors—bound to a complete stranger and responsible for his soul.

One of the oldest, most dangerous Carpathians, Benedek Kovak is more beast than man. Locked away for centuries, the only thing that has stopped him from becoming one of the monsters he’s sworn to defeat is the thought of his lifemate. When Benedek senses the impending danger, he sets out to find her before it’s too late. But their enemy has laid a trap that pushes him closer to turning than ever before.

For so long Benedek has felt nothing. Now, some dark art is compelling him to indulge in cravings he thought long buried. He has no hope that anyone can restore what’s left of his tainted soul, but Silke is nothing like he imagined. Perhaps she’s strong enough to fight back the darkness. Perhaps together they can defeat an adversary hell bent on destroying them all….

~*~*~*~

IMG_3726

I’ve been a fan of the Carpathian novels since the beginning. I’m glad they have evolved somewhat and given us a wider world. That being said, this is not my favorite. Everything was there, the dangers, the battles, the couple. Yet to me it felt like an outline of a story waiting for the emotional connections to be added. I liked Silke’s strength and commitment to her mission, as well as her caring side. Benedek was presented clearly as well. There was just no building relationship between them, nor did it seem between any other characters in the story. They were there, doing their thing…that is all.

I am intrigued by the ending and its hints to what is to come. So, I will think of this book as a build-up to that story.

EXCERPT

Silke was fourteen when Astrid’s now familiar voice told her to go to Tora and ask questions about a species of people called Carpathians. Silke always looked forward to listening to her mother’s voice and hearing her advice. This was the first time the recording hadn’t been just personal advice from mother to daughter. There weren’t her usual thoughts on the recording or even tips on fighting demons. Astrid instead detailed how important it was for her to learn about the Carpathian species and reiterated several times that she was to rely on Tora to educate her.

Silke had grown up speaking an ancient language, one that Tora referred to as Carpathian. She’d asked, of course, where its origin was, but Tora had simply said she would reveal all to her in time. Silke was so busy learning everything from fighting skills to other languages that she had stopped asking. Now, her mother had specifically instructed her to learn what she could about the Carpathian people from Tora.

Tora had been her best friend almost from the first day Silke could remember, even before she could walk. Tora was kind and patient, and Silke considered her family, a sibling. Since both of her parents had died, as a child Silke clung to Tora. She always seemed older, although when they were children, she couldn’t have been more than five years older-at least that was what Silke had thought at the time.

“When I first asked you about the Carpathian species, you told me they were warriors, hunting vampires,” Silke said to Tora. “At that time, you said they slept in rejuvenating soil and drank blood without killing their donors. You told me they had tremendous powers, including shape-shifting and flying. You were very matter-of-fact. I didn’t have any trouble understanding or believing. Mostly because I knew you. When you told me that every gift comes with drawbacks, and you explained that Carpathians were nearly immortal but would become paralyzed during daylight hours and come out only at night, I realized you were Carpathian. You visited me at night, never during the day. Only once in that conversation did you mention demons and Carpathians in the same breath. I thought you meant vampires, but you didn’t, did you?”

Tora shook her head. “Carpathians view vampires as just that-vampires. They’re wholly evil and prey on every species on this earth they can. They create flesh-eating puppets and ruin the land. They have made alliances in the underworld recently. Banding together and making alliances is new, from what I’m told.”

That didn’t explain the demon reference Tora had so casually made all those years ago. Silke knew where vampires came from. When she turned fifteen, she learned that aside from being a demon slayer, her mother had also passed on another responsibility-a huge one. Silke guarded the soul of a Carpathian warrior. If that wasn’t fantasy, what was? When a Carpathian male was born, his soul split. He retained all the darkness, and somewhere, a female child was born with the other half of the soul made up of his light. His task was to find her and bind their souls together. It wasn’t easy to find their lifemate, and many of them succumbed to temptation, turning vampire, forcing friends to hunt them. The woman could die, and the soul would be born again and again for as long as the Carpathian male still existed.

The thought of such a responsibility at fifteen was disconcerting. Still, at fifteen, none of the things she learned about Carpathians seemed real. They were larger-than-life heroes, hunting vampires and keeping mankind safe. They were warriors fighting for others despite the constant whisper of temptation to kill while feeding just so they would feel a rush. Those were facts she’d learned from Tora.
