A scarred fighter.

A girl with rules.

One night of unbridled passion.

There are three things you need to know about Elizabeth Bennett: she’s smart as a whip, always in control, and lives by a set of carefully crafted rules. She’s learned the hard way that people you love the most always hurt you in the end.

But then she meets Declan Blay, the new neighbor at her apartment complex.

A tattooed British street fighter, he’s the campus bad boy she’s supposed to avoid, but when he saves her from a frat party gone bad, all her rules about sex and love fly out the window.

She gives him one night of unbridled passion, but he longs for more.

With only a cardboard-thin wall separating their bedrooms, he dreams of possessing the vulnerable girl next door forever.

One night. Two damaged hearts. The passion of a lifetime.

The title and cover caught my attention and the story held it. Dirty English is a standalone new adult romance with a beautiful love story. It tugged at my heartstrings and had had me rooting for the characters. Declan is a rugged modern day knight in shining armor. A sexy fighter that also loves literature and poetry. Throw in the sexy English accent and Declan is swoon-worthy. I loved him!  I loved his twin Dax who was the perfect carefree opposite of Declan and the perfect secondary character. The chemistry between Elizabeth and Declan sizzles immediately and slow builds throughout the book. I recommend this book for new adult romance lovers looking for a sexy and emotional love story.  I really enjoyed it!

“Come to my apartment and spend the night with me.” I touched his face, my fingers stroking the softness of his sensuous lips. “Just one night and we can make this shitty world disappear.”
He exhaled. “A one-night stand?”
“Yeah.”
He cupped my chin. “Someone hurt you, didn’t they?”
My lips tightened. No one at Whitman knew about Colby except for Shelley and Blake, and I sure as hell wasn’t telling him. He’d judge me like everyone else had in Petal, North Carolina. “That’s none of your business.”
“I see.” His eyes searched mine until I felt like a bug under a microscope. “What if I wanted more than just one night?”
“Then your hands can let go of my hips now.”
He removed his hands slowly, the tips of his fingers grazing mine. “This may surprise you, but I don’t sleep with every girl I kiss.”
I’d been rejected. Again. “Blake said you got around, that you used—”
“And you believed him?” His voice was incredulous. “Dude is in love with you and he saw exactly how we looked at each other tonight—”
“Looked at each other? What are you talking about? You refused to dance with me and then you ran off with your girlfriend. Not to mention I just kissed you and you didn’t even care.” I threw my hands up.
“I wanted to fuck you the minute you walked in that party,” he snapped.
“Then why don’t you,” I bit out, tossing back my shoulders.
“You think you want me?” he said tightly. “You can’t handle me, Elizabeth. I can see it in your eyes. You’re scared of something, maybe not me, but something.”
My eyes went to his black eye.
He let out a harsh laugh. “Ah, that’s what you’re afraid of. You want the real truth? You told me tonight you didn’t like violence, but I’m an arsehole who uses his fists. That’s who I am.”
“What do you mean?”
His gaze was intense, dark and low, his face struggling as he fought to find the right words. “I’m in a fight club for money. I show up at warehouses and fight other blokes. Sometimes I beat them so bad they need medical attention. A few times, I’ve been beat to unconsciousness. I’m everything you need to stay away from.”
I inhaled, anger and lust and excitement all riding me. Anger that he was pushing me away, lust for the alpha male in him, and God help me, the fighting thing repelled me and excited me at the same time. “I don’t want to stay away from you. I want you to fuck me and stop making excuses for why you can’t.”
My words seemed to snap his taut restraint.
He pulled me back in his arms, his lips fusing with mine unerringly. His tongue plundered me in a sensual way my body had craved for years. I wrapped my arms around his neck, my anger morphing into all-out desire as he turned us and pressed me against the wall.
Yes, yes, this is what I craved.
A passion to remind me that I was real, not just some sad excuse of a girl who chose to exist on scraps of love.
Before I knew it, he’d shoved my robe off, his hands sculpting my shoulders, massaging them as he ravaged my mouth. I reveled in the warmth of his hand on my neck as his mouth skated down, kissing the hollows of my throat, sucking on my collarbone.
“Like this?” he asked, his voice dark and gravelly. “You want me to take you up against this wall?”
“Yes,” I moaned. Gone. Past caring as long as he kept his hands on me.
Out of control, my brain whispered, but I beat back the dark warnings as his warm hand found my breast and squeezed, his fingers rolling my nipple between his thumb and forefinger.
I gasped in pleasure and arched my back to get closer to his body, ignoring the fear that pricked at the surface.
The rules girl in my head stamped her foot and yelled at me. I ignored her.
But even if I wanted to stop right now, I couldn’t. My tongue tangled wildly with his, my hands pulled at his hair, spurring him on, his hand palming my breast and then tugging. Sharp sensations of need went straight to my core.
“Is this what you want? Something quick where we just take what we want and forget each other the next day?”
No. Not that. Not like the way he said it, like it was something dirty.
“Yes, like that,” I whispered against his shoulder, my mouth on his skin, tasting him as my teeth bit down.

Major Misconduct: Aces Hockey Book 1 by Kelly Jamieson

Publication Date: October 13, 2015

image

image. In Kelly Jamieson’s seductive new Chicago Aces romance—perfect for readers of Sawyer Bennett and Toni Aleo—a fun-loving free spirit tempts an uptight hockey star into opening himself up to love.

As the captain of the Chicago Aces, Marc Dupuis is all business. The apartment he shares with his teammate and best friend, Duncan, is a refuge from the pressures of fame. But when the sexiest woman he’s ever seen interrupts his early morning coffee wearing only a skimpy cami and matching panties, Marc can’t exactly say he minds. Their chemistry is off the charts. Unfortunately, this girl’s no random puck bunny. She’s Duncan’s little sister—and she’s moving in.

Lovey Armstrong could stare at Marc’s chiseled abs and listen to his French-Canadian accent all day. She just has no idea what’s going on inside his head: When he’s not charming her pants off, Marc makes a Zamboni machine seem warm and cuddly. Lovey knows the team’s bro code says no messing with sisters, but all these mixed messages are hard on a girl’s self-esteem—especially since she’s finally getting her new life together in Chicago. She decides he’s worth another shot . . . because if anyone can melt the ice around Marc’s heart, it’s Lovey.

She’d never begrudged Duncan his success. She was proud of her brother. He’d worked hard his whole life to achieve what he had and he totally deserved it. But there had been times she’d wished she had some kind of super talent that would make everyone proud of her.
“You’re giving me the gears before I’m barely in the door. Not cool, Dunc.”
His lips quirked as if he was repressing another smile. He gestured to one of the brown leather couches. “Sit down.”
She sank into the couch and crossed her legs.
Duncan sat across from her. “You don’t quit a perfectly good job just because it’s not your dream job, Lovey. If you don’t like it, you look around for something else and then you quit.”
“Not if you’re moving to Chicago. I had to quit so I could move here. I’ll find something here, I’m sure.”
Duncan thought she was a flighty, impetuous screwup who’d quit a good job and moved to another state on a whim. And she wasn’t about to set him straight on that, because . . . it was true.
Well, to a certain extent it was true. But she didn’t want to tell him about her goals and dreams because . . . because she wasn’t entirely sure she could do this . . . and she didn’t want him saying “I told you so” if she failed.
She pushed down her misgivings and smiled at him. “I just need a place to stay for a while.”
“You can’t stay here.”
Her mouth dropped open. “What? Why not? You’ve got tons of room! Look at this place.” She sat up straight and swept an arm out. “Fifty billion square feet, probably ten bathrooms . . .”
“Two and a half,” he corrected. “And three bedrooms. And it’s only two thousand square feet. Not fifty billion,” he added in a muttered tone.
Only two thousand. As if one guy needs that much space.”
“I have a roommate,” he reminded her. “Two of the three bedrooms are occupied and the third has no furniture.”
She frowned and sank back into the couch. “Oh. Well. That doesn’t matter. I’ll just sleep on the floor until we can get me a bed.”
“We’re not getting you a bed.”
“Hey, Army, what time are we heading out?” a deep male voice interrupted them. “Oh. Hey.”
Lovey’s head snapped around at the unfamiliar voice and then her eyes went wide and her jaw dropped.
The guy standing across the room wore a pair of boxer shorts and nothing else. Sweet cheese-its, he was hot. Even more muscular than Duncan, he was about the same height. Short brown hair stood in messy spikes on top, and the same golden-brown stubble lay over his chiseled jaw and upper lip. His lips were thinnish but nicely shaped, his eyes a beautiful sky blue color she could see from here, framed with thick eyelashes.
Her gaze tracked over bulky shoulders and arms, a chest that was slabs of muscle and smooth golden skin, a freakin’ eight-pack of abs that literally made her want to drool, then down over the blue boxer shorts sitting low on lean hips, to his bare legs. She blinked at the size of his thighs and the delineation of the massive muscles bulging above his knees. His calves were also strong, covered with more dark gold hair. His long, sinewy bare feet stood on the bare wood floor.
She lifted her gaze back up to his face and smiled. “Hi.”
He blinked, his expression not changing. “Uh. Hi.” He glanced at Duncan. “Sorry, man, didn’t know you had someone here.” He took a step back.
“Dude, go put some clothes on. This is my little sister.”
The guy’s eyes flickered. “Oh. Shit. Be right back.”
“Wait!” Lovey rose and legged it across the carpet in her heels, hand outstretched. “I’m Lovey. It’s nice to meet you; you must be Duncan’s roommate. Marc, right?”
He took another step back but she kept going. He shoved a hand out, maybe to stop her. She grabbed it to shake it.
“Yeah. Marc.”
The faint inflection in the way he said it was . . . sexy. “You’re French.” Her smile broadened.
“Yeah.” He gave her a quick handshake, then released her hand and took two more steps away. “Marc Dupuis. I’ll, uh, be back.”
He disappeared down the hall and she admired the back view. Whoa. Wide at the shoulders, muscled back, deep grooves down the middle that disappeared into the low waistband of the boxers, which did not hide a very firm ass. She gave a sigh of pleasure.
“Lovey.”
She blinked and turned to look at her brother.
That’s why you can’t stay here. This is a bachelor home. You can’t live here with two guys.”
She frowned. “Why not?”
His eyebrows flew up. “We walk around half-dressed sometimes. We don’t want to have to be worried about covering up.”
She grinned. “Don’t worry on my account. You . . . phht.” She waved a hand and rolled her eyes. “He can walk around naked anytime he wants.”
“Jesus fuckin’ Christ.” Duncan rubbed his face. “We drink beer. We make a mess. Well, I do,” he amended. “We party. Lotta the other guys hang out here too.”
She shrugged. “It’s not as if I’m not used to your friends hanging out.” He’d played hockey all through high school—well, all his life, basically—and there’d always been a bunch of guys crowding up their Columbia County dairy farmhouse.
“We have girls over.” He gave her a meaningful look.
She laughed, flopping down on the couch again. “I should hope so.”
“You’re not going to be comfortable here.”
She looked around. “I think I could be very comfortable here.” She gave a nod. “This is a gorgeous place to live. Nice view too.” In the distance Lake Michigan was a haze of blue.
“Fuck,” Duncan muttered.
Marc reappeared, now fully dressed, sadly. Although with clothes on he still looked amazeballs hot. “Sorry about that. Didn’t know you were here, uh, Lovey.”
She beamed at him. “No problem. Duncan was more freaked-out than I was.”
Duncan rolled his eyes.
Lovey studied Marc in his clothes—low-rise faded jeans that had to be specially made to fit loosely over those massive thighs, and a long-sleeve black T-shirt. She let out another brief sigh.
He moved to perch on one of the stools at the big island, then stopped as he took in the mess in the kitchen. With a head shake, he began to clean up, tossing cold pizza into the trash, loading empty beer bottles into cartons. “This place is gross.”
Duncan shrugged and leaned back. “You knew that when you moved in. Don’t get all pissy. You don’t have to clean up.”
“I know, I know.” Marc stacked empty pizza boxes into a blue recycling box. “Just can’t stand the fucking mess.”
Duncan grinned. “That’s your problem.”
Lovey looked back and forth between them. Duncan was a slob, no doubt about it. Mom had pulled her hair out trying to teach him to clean up after himself. Apparently none of it had sunk in. Marc, on the other hand . . . seemed to have learned well. Or maybe he was a neat freak.
Nothing wrong with that. Not at all.
Especially when he looked that good while cleaning up.

Love this series! It’s been fun doing a reread and reconnecting with all my favorite characters. Axel started my Wing Slayer obsession! I want everyone else to read the book and understand my obsession. The Wing Slayer series is a hot paranormal romance series with protective alpha males and their witches. I’m so excited Jennifer Lyon picked up the series again and decided to self publish it. If you’re a fan of the series you can tell all your friends about the re-release! They’re cheaper and have all new covers. I’ve been gifting copies of book 1 to friends because it’s only $0.99 (update it’s now free). New books are releasing as well so fans can read the stories they’ve been waiting for. It’s awesome! I sound fangirlish in this review but it’s fangirl worthy. Trust me! Go get them!

Acting as though she weren’t paying any attention to him and hiding her flush of pleasure at this clear evidence that he was so affected by her, she walked back to the closet to get her other dress.
This one was a deep red—a sleeveless column of fabric with well-tailored ruches and a slit on one side that came all the way up her thigh.
Caleb wasn’t talking much anymore—just occasionally saying “yeah.” She didn’t dare to look over at him fully, because he would suspect what she was trying to do.
But the brief glances she sneaked proved that his body had grown tense and his skin was slightly flushed.
He was turned on. No doubt about it. It gave her a rush of pleasure and relief—and also a pride that left her a little uncomfortable.
She was so focused on looking sexy as she tried to zip up her dress that she was at a loss when the zipper snagged on the fabric.
She tugged on it gently and then frowned, wondering how she was supposed to get it unsnagged and still look sexy.
She gasped and gave a little jump when she felt a hand over hers on the zipper.
Caleb had gotten up and moved behind her while she was distracted.
“Stuck?” he asked, his voice thick and textured the way it always was when he was turned on.
He was standing behind her, and his eyes were moving with a hungry heat from her face down her body in the mirror over the dresser.
“Try not to tear it,” she said as he focused back down on her zipper. “This dress was expensive.”
“It was well worth the money.”
With a little work, he freed the zipper and pulled it all the way up.
“Did you finish with your call?” she asked, glancing back to where he’d left his phone on the table next to the chair.
“You made sure of that, didn’t you?”
She made her eyes wide and innocent. “What do you mean?”
“You know exactly what I mean. You think I’m so easy that I’ll be manipulated by the sexy little show you just gave me.”
She glanced over her shoulder and down at his groin, where he was visibly aroused beneath the towel. She just cleared her throat, trying to hide a smile.
“That’s only a victory,” Caleb said, “if a man is led around by his dick.”
“And you’re not?”
“What do you think?”
She met his eyes in the mirror, and she felt the strangest twisting of fear, pleasure, and possession at what she saw in his expression.
“I think I told you on the first day we met that, by the time I was through with you, all your unrelenting alpha-maleness would be broken. I think I’m off to a good start.” She made sure her expression was teasing, almost taunting. They’d done this verbal dance from the beginning, and it was sometimes as exciting to her as his touch.
She had to be so careful, though, and not surrender completely to her feelings for him. She’d loved her father too much to sacrifice justice for him that way.
“Is that what you think?” As Caleb spoke, he pulled the zipper of her dress back down.
She glanced over at the clock. “We’re supposed to leave in five minutes.”
“Then I’ll have to prove my point quickly.”
Her breath was already quickening as he slowly slid her dress down to the floor, leaving her again wearing nothing but her heels and underwear. “What point?”
“That there’s nothing broken about me.”
She reached behind her to caress his hard cock through the towel, pleased when he gave a soft grunt. “It feels like you’re not going to hold out very long in this little show of strength you’re putting on.”
He took her wrist and pulled her hand away, planting it on the dresser. “Was that a challenge?”
“I know how you feel about those.” She gave him a teasing smile in the mirror.
She did know how he responded to a challenge—the same way she always had. She’d never met another man who could match her will, in bed or out of it. She could see the defiance smoldering in his eyes right now, and it triggered a matching reaction in her.
He might not know the real battle that would always be waged between them—the clash of mighty opposites, as Shakespeare had put it—but these smaller duels had always shaped their relationship.
So she was ready for him when he stepped forward, pressing his body into hers from behind and kissing the side of her neck.

Rory made it to Neve just as her right temple connected with the hard tile floor. “Shit.” He scooped her into his arms. “Neve. Baby. You okay?”
She didn’t respond.
Rory’s pulse pounded, his lungs went tight. Suddenly it wasn’t Neve in his arms—it was Ghost, a sneaky soldier nicknamed for his ability to slip in and out of places undetected, his body lifeless, his eyes locked in the stare of the dead. Rory shook his head trying to clear the disturbing image.
“Give her to me.” Nate squatted beside him, tried to take his sister.
“No.” Rory stood on shaky legs, carried Neve’s limp body to the sofa, and sat down, cradling her on his lap, concentrating on his breathing, focusing on Neve, on staying here in the present and not returning to the past. “Get me a cold wet cloth and a glass of water.” The cloth for her, the water for him.
Surprisingly, Nate did so without arguing. “You know, my buddy’s wife went through this same thing when she was pregnant,” Rory told Nate as he brushed some dark curls off of Neve’s beautiful but too damn pale face. “She couldn’t keep any food down, got weak and dehydrated, kept passing out. She had to be hospitalized for intravenous hydration.”
Nate ran back with the wet cloth and placed it on Neve’s forehead. “If she is pregnant I’m going to beat the crap out of you, you irresponsible asshole. You should have used protection.”
Rory had suggested it, had told Neve to wait. But while talking about trust and each of them having an experience they’d never had before, she’d slid down, taking him inside of her body, with no barrier between them, like he’d dreamt of and fantasized about so many times. So hot, so wet, so fucking amazing, he couldn’t muster the willpower to stop her. God help him, he’d had the best sex of his life that night. But afterward he’d started to wonder, What if? And when she wouldn’t give him a straight answer . . .
Nate knelt on the floor beside the couch, leaned in close to Neve, and said, “Come on, you pain in the ass. Wake up.” Then he kissed her forehead. “Shit.” He shot to his feet. “She’s burning up. We’ve got to get her to the hospital.”
Burning up? That’s when Rory noticed the heat radiating through her bathrobe.
“Come on.” Nate opened the door. “We’ll take my car.”
His police car.
Siren blaring, Nate drove like a maniac, navigating through heavy traffic like a pro, getting them to a hospital in less than ten minutes. All the while Rory held Neve on his lap in the backseat, cuddling her close, checking her pulse and shallow breathing, telling her she was going to be okay and they’d have her to the hospital soon, more to reassure himself than her, because she remained unresponsive for the entire trip.
Once they got to the Emergency Room, everything happened so fast. He carried Neve in through the electric doors. Nate yelled, “We need some help here,” and they were directed into a large room with three empty beds. He placed Neve on a stretcher to the right. Hospital staff, male and female, dressed in green or blue scrub uniforms, some with lab coats or colorful scrub jackets, hurried in, moving quickly and efficiently. Nate answered questions about Neve’s past medical history and gave the name of her general practitioner. A tall black woman called out orders.
Rory’s head spun from all the activity, the swarm of people he didn’t know, the unfamiliar sounds. On edge, his heart started to race. His hands grew damp. He wanted to leave, to run to someplace calmer . . . quieter . . . but couldn’t. Because Neve lay there, limp and silent, at the center of the mayhem, her head drooped to the side, eyes closed.
He pinched his ear. Touch seemed to help. Get control of yourself. You’re back in the States. Safe. Relax. Easier said than done, especially the first couple of weeks, sometimes months, after returning home from a combat deployment.
When he could finally get a word in, as he and Nate were being herded out into the hall, Rory made sure to mention, “She may be pregnant.” His son or daughter might, at this very second, be fighting for life, same as Neve. His heart squeezed at the thought. Please, God. Let them be okay.
Rory and Nate stood in the hallway outside of Neve’s room, quietly, idly, waiting. A security guard moseyed over, probably to ask them to move to the waiting room. Nate put his hand on his gun and gave the poor guy a look that had him returning to his post without uttering a single word. When the door opened, they braced for news. A woman came out carrying vials filled with blood and what looked like a urine sample, then hurried off without so much as glancing their way.
Rory, sweat soaking through his shirt, checked his watch. Fifteen fucking minutes had gone by. He needed to know what was happening, something, anything. About Neve. About his baby. Damn the hospital staff, who knew they were out here, worried, waiting for any bit of news. Yet no one had the decency to come talk to them, to put their minds at ease. Enough. Rory took a step toward the room, only to be grabbed back by Nate. “Don’t.” As quick as he’d grabbed Rory, he released him. “Let them do their job.” He stood there stiff—his back against the wall, worry etched on his face—and crossed his arms back over his chest.
A minute or so later Nate pushed off the wall and started to walk. “Dr. Glassman.” He held out his hand to a tall, gray-haired, nicely dressed man walking toward them. When the doctor had finished putting on his white lab coat, he shook Nate’s hand.
“Happened to be on my way to the hospital to do rounds when I received your message.” He took his stethoscope, which he’d been holding in his hand, and wrapped it around the back of his neck. “What’s up with our girl?”
“She’s got a bad case of the flu. Said half the kids in her gymnastics studio are down with it,” Nate answered.
“It’s a pretty virulent strain this year.”
“And she may be pregnant,” Rory added, because if she was, the medical staff needed to avoid any testing or treatments that might harm the baby. His baby.
Dr. Glassman turned his gaze on Rory, looking him over. “And who might you be?”
Nate answered. “This is Rory McRoy, a friend of Neve’s.”
Damn right. A close friend, regardless of what Neve thought. Rory held out his hand, and Dr. Glassman shook it, his grip firm, confident. Rory liked that.
“Active duty?”
Rory nodded. “Got back from Afghanistan yesterday, sir.” Three days of travel, hours spent waiting around, no bed in sight. Then he’d been delayed on base, which caused him to miss his flights to New York. He’d spent last night in an airport hoping to fly stand-by.
“Thank you for your service, son.” The doctor turned toward Nate. “Tell me what happened today.”
Nate told him everything he’d observed from the time he arrived at Neve’s condo until their arrival at the hospital.
“When did her symptoms start?”
“She first mentioned them to me about a week ago, but I think she’d been feeling poorly prior to that.”
Dr. Glassman shook his head, a concerned expression on his face. “So soon after her procedure, she should have called me immediately. Where is she?” he asked with a sudden sense of urgency.
“Procedure?” Nate looked confused. “What procedure?”
Dr. Glassman looked up. “If she didn’t tell you, I’m not at liberty to discuss it. Not without a signed release giving me permission. I’ll have my secretary check to see if we have one. In the meantime I’ve got to speak with her ER attending right away.”
“She’s in there.” Nate pointed, and a few seconds later Dr. Glassman disappeared behind the door.
Procedure? The word pounded in Rory’s head. His chest tightened, his stomach cramped. Had there been a problem with her pregnancy? Had she gotten an abortion? At four months? No. With Neve’s history, she’d never intentionally kill their baby . . . would she?

imageLt. Grayson Masters is focused on graduating the Apache helicopter course, and the last thing he needs is his gorgeous new roommate Samantha Fitzgerald distracting him. While her smart mouth and free spirit are irresistibly irritating, he can’t deny their off-the-charts chemistry, no matter how hard he tries.

Having just been expelled from college, Sam has no business digging for Grayson’s secrets while she’s hiding her own, but that doesn’t stop her from trying to tear down his walls. Each barrier she busts through drops one of her own, though, and she’s not prepared for the truth: another woman laid claim to Grayson’s heart long ago.

Falling in love is something neither Grayson nor Sam can afford, and when that line is crossed and secrets are exposed, they’ll learn that sometimes it’s the answered prayers that will put you through hell.

Grayson’s choices were so calculated, so deliberate, I doubted he’d ever so much as been late for a class.

“Samantha?” His eyes softened, revealing the give in him, and it cracked my own defenses.

“Have you ever made a mistake, Grayson? And I don’t mean the kind that costs you an apology. I mean one that destroys you? Where you lie awake at night, unable to sleep, because you’re terrified of what’s going to happen the next day, and the one after that? Where you’d give anything, and I do mean anything to go back and make a different choice? Where you’re sick all the time at the thought of what you’ve done? Because I have. I’ve crumbled my entire future, shredded any hope of finishing college, and killed off who I used to be. And I don’t…I don’t know how to come back from something like that.”

“You don’t.”
I jerked back, but he held me immobile against him. “Stop, and listen to me. I’m not going to belittle you by

saying nothing is that bad, because some things are. Things happen that change who we are, and what we’re capable of. So you’re not going to ‘come back’ from that any more than you’re going to erase whatever you did. You have to decide if you’re going to try to keep patching yourself up or if you’re going to tear down and rebuild.”

“I don’t know how to do that.”

“You wade through the pain, and the guilt, and the excuses you make to yourself. Stop drowning in alcohol to numb the fear, and suck up the bitter taste of accountability.

You move on with who you are now. It’s not easy. If you think you screwed up that badly, then maybe you did, but you also have to leave room for the chance that you didn’t. Have you talked about it?”

I shook my head. There were two of us who knew the whole truth, and that circle was big enough. “I’m not sure I’m ready to let go of everyone’s vision of who I am. It’s so much prettier than the truth.”

“Not even Ember?”

“Definitely not think-through-everything-twice Ember. She wouldn’t understand, and I’m not sure I could handle her reaction.”

He swallowed and broke our stare like it had become too much because we both knew the truth—it had. “That’s the hardest part, letting someone see who you really are— scars and all. I’m…” He cleared his throat. “You need to trust someone enough to tell them the truth. Make peace with it before it eats you alive. I listen really well if you don’t have anyone else.”

I scrambled to throw up a wall between us. It was safer when he was hurling snotty comments at me. That, I knew how to handle. But this Grayson? The one holding me carefully, keeping me warm while the storm raged outside, offering to help carry the crippling weight destroying me? I didn’t know what the hell to do with that one.

Irresistibly Yours: An Oxford Novel by Lauren Layne

Publication Date: October 6, 2015

image

imageMeet the men of Oxford magazine! In the first captivating spin-off of Lauren Layne’s Sex, Love & Stiletto series, a not-so-friendly battle of the sexes turns into a scorching office romance.

Hotshot sports editor Cole Sharpe has been freelancing for Oxford for years, so when he hears about a staff position opening up, he figures he’s got the inside track. Then his boss drops a bombshell: Cole has competition. Female competition, in the form of a fresh-faced tomboy who can hang with the dudes—and write circles around them, too. Cole usually likes his women flirty and curvy, but he takes a special interest in his skinny, sassy rival, if only to keep an eye on her. And soon, he can’t take his eyes off her.

Penelope Pope knows all too well that she comes off as just one of the guys. Since she’s learned that wanting more usually leads to disappointment, Penelope’s resigned to sitting on the sidelines when it comes to love. So why does Cole make her want to get back in the game? The man is as arrogant as he is handsome. He probably sees her as nothing more than a barrier to his dream job. But when an unexpected kiss turns into a night of irresistible passion, Penelope has to figure out whether they’re just fooling around—or starting something real.

Cole had been watching the brunette for the better part of three innings.
Which was just wrong on a couple of levels.
For starters, it was a rare woman who could come between Cole Sharpe and baseball. Or between Cole and any sport, for that matter.
And at Yankee Stadium in particular, the game came first. Especially a game in which the Yankees were trying to establish early dominance over the Blue Jays in the American League East division.
Cole’s eyes should have been glued to the field. Not only because the Yankees were his team—he’d been a die-hard fan since his Little League days—but because Cole was a sportswriter. Come tomorrow morning, Cole would be expected to know the details of every single at bat.
And yet . . .
His eyes shifted once more to the narrow figure of the brunette as he took another sip of beer.
There was something about her that demanded a second look and at the same time, there was nothing about her. She was utterly, completely unremarkable.
And that was the other reason why Cole’s fascination with the woman made no sense.
Cole loved women almost as much as he loved sports, but this woman?
Cole liked women curvy, but this one was slim to the point of being skinny. There was no noticeable definition of her waist through her Jeter jersey. No womanly flare of her hips.
Plus, Cole preferred blondes, and this one’s messy ponytail was just a couple shades lighter than black.
As for her face? Well, he hadn’t seen it yet. Not fully. But she’d turned her head once in the third inning, giving Cole a quick glance at her profile. The upturned nose was cute enough, but the rest of her features were hardly so arresting as to explain why he continued to stare at her.
It took Cole another half inning to realize what it was that had captivated him.
For the first time in his life, he was seeing a woman who was more absorbed with a baseball game than he was.
Tiny Brunette, as he’d started thinking of her, hadn’t lost interest in the game once. Even between innings, when the rest of the stadium was refilling on beer and peanuts, she merely scribbled like crazy in a little notebook she kept in her lap.
It was like clockwork. The third out would signal the swap of the players on the field, and Tiny Brunette’s attention would dip toward the damn notebook.
Her left hand would sneak around to twirl her ponytail around a finger while her right hand busily wrote . . .
What?
What did she write in that notebook? And exactly why did he want to know so badly?
Normally Cole would just ask. The seat beside Tiny Brunette was free. Everyone else in the suite was there more for the networking and the free food and booze than the game. It would have been so easy just to plop down beside her, strike up a conversation. Flirt.
But for some reason he was hesitant.
Cole told himself it was because he didn’t want to interrupt whatever it was she was so diligently working on, but there was an unfamiliar fear too.
The fear of rejection.
Because nothing about this woman signaled that she’d be interested in a conversation with him.
And that would be a first.

image In a nutshell this book was about two people emotionally scarred by what life had thrown at them. It was interesting that you couldn’t really tell who was healing whom, but that was also part of the journey. It helped that I truly liked Rev and Annabel so even when it got a bit maudlin, I had faith that things would gear back up. I enjoyed the people surrounding them and the action didn’t overpower the romance nor did the recovery from the trauma. This book doesn’t fall in the dark, hot and heavy biker romance category. I would decribe Redemption Road as heartfelt, enjoyable and balanced.

“You’re such a beautiful fibber,” Cav murmured tenderly, moving his hands slowly up and down her thighs. He saw that his touch settled her down, her shoulders dropping the tension she was holding in them. “In another forty minutes, you’ll be boarded first. There will be two air marshals on that flight, Lia, to protect you. You’ll be fine.”

She turned and faced him. “I worry about you, Cav, and about all these guys. You’re going to get into the fight to get Medina as soon as you get me on board that plane, aren’t you?” She saw him give her a rueful smile, like a little boy caught with his hand in the cookie jar.

“Busted.”

“I wish you wouldn’t go, Cav,” she blurted out, unable to hide her emotions now. “I know I don’t have a right to ask you that.”

“Yes,” he growled, “You have every right, Lia.”

It was painful for her to look at him, so she looked away. “I know we barely know one another, but there’s something good between us, Cav. I can feel it. When you kissed me, I felt as if I’d never been kissed before. And you did it so well…” She saw his eyes turn dark with emotion, and his hands stilled on her thighs as she absorbed their strength and warmth. She had never wanted him more.

“Listen,” he growled, then softened his tone as he cupped her face. “This is one of the few times I want to be on an operation, Lia. I want Medina so damn bad I can taste it. That bastard is as good as dead. He just doesn’t know it yet. And I hope like hell I’m the man who puts the bullet into that sick bastard’s brain. I want to know that he’ll never, ever bother you or any other woman again. This man needs to be taken out.”

She felt a chill from his icy declaration. Here was Cav, her warrior, fully unveiled. Shaken, Lia whispered, “Then please be very, very careful, Cav. I can’t lose you,” and she reached out to him, touching his face and feeling a day’s worth of beard beneath her fingertips.

Just as quickly, Cav’s feral look was replaced by the gentle, strong man she was falling in love with. She knew he wanted to kiss her as he moved his thumb lightly across her lips.

“When this is over, I’m coming home to you, Lia. I’m sure Robert has another assignment for me, but I’m going to reject it. I want time with you…”

Nothing had ever sounded so good to her. She leaned forward, seeking and finding his lips, releasing a low moan of need as his mouth took hers with unbelievable gentleness. Lia wanted so much more from this man!

She, too, wanted a chance to for them to know each other without being under threat. His mouth slid against her lips now, and she hungrily pressed hers against his, wanting so much more from him, wanting to give equally back to him.

Cav held her, savoring her natural sweetness, her taste, her fragrance. Her fingers open and closed against his shoulders as she eagerly kissed him in return.

His heart was pounding in his chest, his erection painful with need. Time was what they both needed. Time for her to heal, and time for them to explore what they would do next.

image imageHE’S HELL ON WHEELS.

Tall, dark, and dangerously handsome, Zane “Tracker” Colter is the strong, silent type of tattooed muscle biker who drives women wild. But as a master of strategy for the outlaw MC club, Sinner’s Tribe, he doesn’t have time to play around with groupies and biker chicks-especially when he can’t stop thinking about Evie, the girl who got away…

SHE’S PLAYING WITH FIRE.

Evie’s been in love with Zane ever since they were children-until he broke her heart and disappeared. Now he’s back in her life, bigger and badder than ever. Zane is stunned by how beautiful and confident Evie’s become, using her artistic talent to customize motorcycles. He wants her so bad, he’d ride through fire to win her back. There’s one problem: Evie is dating his deadliest rival-the leader of the Black Jacks-and if Evie and Zane hook up, there’ll be hell to pay… in Sinner’s Steel.

image

image“What are you looking for?” She looked down, letting her hair cover her face so he couldn’t see the flush in her cheeks. “I have a few hours free this afternoon, and since Bill isn’t there, I don’t mind going in to help you out. Ty…my son…is with a friend.”
“Paint.”
God, this was as bad as getting Ty to tell her about his day at school. “Do you need to buy paint or are you looking for artwork?”
“Art. Yours.”
Evie fought back a smile. Zane had always reverted to monosyllabic answers in emotionally stressful situations, and she had a feeling his stress wasn’t because of T-Rex and Tank shirking their duties. “You want to see my portfolio and some samples or do you have something in mind?” She sidestepped around him, heading for the door so she could grab her purse. Her body brushed against his and just that tiny touch—the feel of his hard chest against her breasts, the scent of his leather cut—sent her pulse skyrocketing, and stumbled.
Zane put out a hand to steady her, then suddenly yanked her against him, holding her fast with an arm around her waist. “You were always touching me, Evie,” he murmured. “Drove me outta my fucking mind. You playing games with me now?”
Her chest expanded and she sucked in some badly needed air. This wasn’t Zane the teenager, who fumbled with her clothes beside the creek, his hand shaking as he touched her bare skin. This was Zane the man, confident, self-assured and strong, with a dominance that made her knees weak and a body that made her mouth water.
Dangerous. Maybe even a killer.
No. She pushed the thought away. Even after she gave up hope of seeing him again, she never believed he was responsible for her father’s death.
“We should go.” She pulled away, at least she thought she did, but his hand stayed firm on her lower back. “I’ll show you my portfolio.”
“Saw it when I stopped by the shop on my way here. You got real talent. Always did.”
“You broke into the shop?” The warmth of his hand seeped through her body making it difficult to keep her spine stiff and her indignation firm.
A half grin spread across his face, and his shoulders relaxed. “Thought maybe you were unconscious inside since the hours on the door said the shop was open on Sunday.”
“And you didn’t think to call Tank or T-Rex who were parked outside my house?”
“I’m a man of action, sweetheart.” He nuzzled the side of her face, the rasp of his breath in her ear so damn erotic she wanted nothing more than to drag him into her house and do something insanely stupid.
“I hope you didn’t rampage through the shop during your break-in. It’s partly my business, too.”
He jerked back and his smile faded. “You think I’m gonna steal from you?”
She cringed at his sharp tone, but better to have him annoyed than sexy and seductive. “You are an outlaw biker. Isn’t that what you do? Mayhem, theft, arson…the more illegal the better?”
“We do what we gotta do to live the way we want to live.”
Evie pulled away, putting some much-needed space between them. “The way I want to live includes having a way to pay the rent, and that’s not going down if anything happens to the shop. Plus, Axle won’t be back. I told Jagger, but he didn’t believe me. He was just delivering a message from someone.” She turned to the door, cringing at the reveal she hadn’t intended to make, but before she could step inside, Zane clamped a hand on her shoulder.
“Who?”
Her heart pounded a warning, but she couldn’t outright lie, and the question suggested he already knew the answer. “Viper.”
Zane hissed in a breath. “What was the message?”
She twisted a lock of hair around her finger, and looked back at him over her shoulder. “It’s…sort of…personal. We’re…um…friends.”
His gaze locked on her finger and his eyes narrowed. Damn. He knew her anxiety tell as well as she knew his. “Viper doesn’t have friends.”
“Maybe you don’t know him that well.”
He released her and took a step back. “Maybe I don’t know you.”
